this game pretty much consumed my life on the PS2 and so far it looks just as good here. The voice acting is a non issue for me, the music score is far more important. I don't get all the discussion of this game, you either know this game or you don't. All I can say to anyone who has never played it before, if you don't like JRPG's with endless, totorous 'every two steps with no warning' grinding, this may prove a little daunting. Otherwise, it is a HUGE game and the individual character skill development never stops getting better. One thing is for sure, you NEED to do some light guide reading to brush up on the bonus perks that certain skills will give some characters, without knowing them you will be grinding quite hard in a game where grinding is already as hardcore as it gets... The portrait mode doesn't bother me, although on an iPad it seems out of place. They were really, really aiming for one hand phone commuters with this release. Now all we need is a direct port of FFXII, am I rite?!
What about sound. No music. No voice acting. Is it a silent game? What kind of sound is in this game?
Thanks! Do you know how much space you need free to install though as it usually takes up roughly double to begin with? 3.2 gb? Got so much to delete!!!
It still has music, just not the orchestrated versions. It's very nice music, actually, and the quality is much higher than the poorly sampled orchestra soundtrack of the American PS2 version. And of course, it has all of the sound effects you would expect from a PS2 RPG. If you've never played the American PS2 version, you probably won't miss the VA or the orchestra versions of the music.
I imagine some Japanese gamers are pissed that this is launching almost ten dollars cheaper than it launched on the Japan iOS store. Not that I mind. I'll grab a 15$ card on my way to work and get ready to watch my phone battery die everyday! Woohoo!
I hope this western port means we'll also get Final Fantasy Agito soon and maybe even Capcom's Monster Hunter 2nd G I love these Japanese ports!
so far i really enjoy the game, and the music is very nice. if it had extra content available to download for VA i probably wouldn't spare hundreds of mb just for the extra VA, idevices space is so limited that having some extra free space really counts. i tried posting some screenshots via mobile trwo safari but i can only upload one image per post...
it will take around 30min or an hour before you get used to the controls and camera moving... depends only on how well can you adapt to any kind of games, but after you get used to the portrait mode and how you control your character you'll start to like it even more
after around an hour of play the game doc&data(local save files) increased with +85mb. so, here is the answer, and the last ss captured
I seem to recall afew other game ports to the ios having much luck inserting save files and audio files and video files in to the ios games. Wonder if we will end up seeing instructions at some point on reintroducing the voice files
Loving it so far. I'm amazed a Dragon Quest is out on iphone. Best games I played on the Nintendo DS.
Yeah, controls are good, game itself is fantastic and I just fell in love with it again. Except a very few minor lags it plays really good and fluid on my iPhone 5. Totally recommended!
Hey everyone! I'm looking for an honest answer here. How enjoyable is the game on an iPhone5 or iPad4? I would definetly like to purchase it, but only only if it gives an enjoyable experience, since I won't upgrade my devices soon EDIT: Just read Vovin's post, I'm satisfied.
I think Shauns excellent review pretty much answers this, but I've heard your specified hardware runs it as well as possible. Some people reported they didn't notice any frame drops and Shaun admitted he may just be used to the higher frames of the PS2 version. I'm entirely too close to pressing BUY - my concern is not playing it enough. I've never played the game before.. Still seems like an excellent value for an iPad.
