Whoa! Didn't expect to see a snowy wonderland so soon in this game. Looks awesome. Gonna level a while here for sure! Man, this game's got it all.

I've got to 20 hours of play and I'm a long way from finishing. an absolutely classic rpg with amazing story and gameplay which imho surpasses most other games in this genre. parts of the story have had me genuinely hooked and there's just s much to do. One of the best £10 I've spent in a long time!

Beat this the other day after playing chunks of it for weeks. Total time was about 23hrs. Amazing game and story. Overall tho the depth is a little shallow as far as character attacks, spells etc. By that I mean you can honestly go the entire game without casting a single offensive spell, just using basic attacks and buff/debuff spells. I never got a single spell that felt powerfull like final fantasys Fire3, Lit3, ice3 etc. This is possibly because I aquired the casino weapons early, but still never needed to cast any spells to do dmg.

The gameplay is very good on the ipad and the story is excellent. The multi generational feel is really great and reminds me of chrono trigger but in a non time jump kind of way. That makes little sense but thats the feeling I get.

Quick question....how do know when your character is about to level up? In dragon quest VIII there is a next level designation with a number attached which decreases as you gain more experience. I don't see the same feature in this game.

I have the DS version but haven't even played it yet however if it's like previous games in the series you can find out at a church where you save.

Just tested the DS version, the option to pick is Divination. They will then tell you how much until level up.

Finally got around to finishing this. Wow! What a game. Great story and the final boss fight had me worried up until the end. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Finally bought this game. Only an hour in but already very interested in the story.

My question is, am i doing something wrong or do i need to grind more so early in tge game? I just got the first party member
the little girl and we have the quest to go to the tower. Ive made it far enough to where i got the torch but thats just from fleeing every battle or else i would be getting wiped out. Im assuming i need to do some grinding just around town and level and gear up, just seems a little odd to do so early. But i guess i had to do a little early grinding in dq1 as well just thought it would be different this far into the series.

    Thx.

I usually hang around fighting a few battles until I can afford the boomerang in the first town. You don't *have* to, but it makes life a lot easier. I wouldn't run from battles, either. You have nothing to lose by trying to fight them, since you keep any earned XP even if you die. And if you don't fight them, you're going to run into some unwinnable battles that you can't avoid.

Is this game more playable/convenient on an iPhone 6 or an iPad?

I think all of these Dragon Quest ports are better played on an iPhone because the controls lend themselves to one-handed game play.

I'm looking to pick up an RPG to play in short bursts over the next month or two. I planned on getting FFVII, which I played many years ago on a console (PS I think). I'm pretty sure I'll like it all over again since I really enjoyed the iOS version of FFIV, but now I'm considering DQV instead (or first). Any suggestions? Would I enjoy this if I know nothing about the series?

I definitely think the story can be enjoyed independent from the other DQ games. Depending on how short your bursts of gameplay are, I would maybe recommend one over the other. FFVII is the RPG I'm playing most at the moment, but I find DQV more convenient to play in shorter bursts because it loads faster, can run in the background without resetting, can be saved in either churches or quick saved almost anywhere else, and battles or story moments happen faster since there are no cutscenes.

Sometimes I can play FFVII in smaller blocks of time as long as I'm just grinding between towns. But if I am trying to find everything somewhere or make it through the story, I know it might take a little while longer (this is the furthest through it I've ever been).

But the tone, look, and feel of the games are quite different. At least in the places I am at in both of them.

Don't know if any of that helps, but in my opinion, you'll get a winner picking either one.

On sale down to $9.99 (33% off). Any news if this will get full screen treatment for iPhone X like some others in the series?

As of today, all dragon quest games have been updated to support the iPhone X resolution.

DQ IV and VI received theirs today.

DQ V got it a couple of months ago, but it was updated again last week to remove the home bar in-game (which blocked some of the UI).

Really glad that SE still support these quality ports.
