So Shaun will you be reviewing this one? I just bought it today because I had DQ8 and loved it. Haven't played much but I'm hoping it turns out to be as good if not better than DQ8. I've heard it is supposed to be one of the best in the series but haven't seen much feedback on it yet. PS: OceanHorn Game of the Year Edition just appeared in my updates!! 4 hours extra gameplay. Fishing. Extra musical tracks. How about that!
Yes, I'm reviewing this one. You can expect to see the review later today. The original game is in my top three for the series, and the port is quite a bit more faithful than DQ8's, but I'll leave the rest for you to enjoy reading later. Spoiler: it's going to be a #longread.
Looking forward to reading this on a break at work! Gonna get me through the day thinking about it. Man, I hope someone does a gameplay video on twitch or something too. I want to get this one, but my wife might surprise me with it like the last one. So I better wait.
This game is a treasure, for any jrpg fan, I love and preffered old school Rpg! Hopefully they continue with the sequels of DQ
Both, but in different ways, of course. I'm fairly happy with DQ8's port, but the framerate is definitely a noticeable step down from the PS2 version. It's also missing a lot of little, insignificant graphical details. And the loading is slower than the JP PS2 version, though faster than the international PS2 version. Apart from the framerate, all very minor nitpicks, but DQ4 really only has one goof-up in its port, so 4 wins the faithfulness showdown.
So is this a port of the DS remake or the PS1? I'm having a hard time understanding that much. Apparently the DS version has more content, but this iOS version has some of the Playstation features, correct? Just from the short exposure I've had with this and having never played either of the remakes, I'm deducing that this has a real "classic" Playstation One feel to it.
Interesting review. The first few paragraphs had me reaching for the App Store button to buy but then I read you don't keep the same char as you play, you get different characters to play each chapter. I didn't know this and I'm not sure how I feel about it, I usually enjoy building up my character from the get-go to the end. Still, with no camera issues unlike VIII, I'm veeeeery tempted
They all come together in chapter five, with all the levels, XP, and items you left them with at the end of their individual chapters. I was thinking about your DQ8 experience when I mentioned the camera in the review. You really barely need to touch it at all if you don't want. The game was designed as 2D first, after all.
