Game of the Month in my Eyes! Downwell is a worthy choice for game of the month. Glad to see Devolver Digital doing great things on mobile. Artwork style is amazing!
I love this game but... what about gamecentre? All the high scores are hacked, what's the point of having them like that?
Well for me, it's Game of the Year Candidate. There's lots of solid releases this year already, but Downwell does have a solid spot in the upper half of the list so far.
I've been noticing a lot of attention has been thrown at this game which has my curiosity . What type of game is this. Are their upgrades and such. Is it a quick play type of game or missions
It's a vertical platformer with random levels: 4 stages with 3 levels each + boss level. There's lots of strategy to chain loads of combos, it's very difficult and you can be hooked for hours (or until your phone battery runs flat...)
The only suggestion i have for enhancement is to have the option for fullscreen portrait mode on ipads, mainly because of the MFi controller support.
Has anyone managed to beat this game on freakin hard mode? It's killing me!!! I can breeze normal mode but get beasted on hard! Can't get past Aqua world!
Lol fair enough!!! To be fair, I found the second world the hardest for ages. Found the best tactic at first was to drop down a layer at a time and bait up the ghosts before moving on.
Got a 42 hit combo yet can't score more than 3,200 points... Ugh... @virtualboyfreak; amazing score amigo, eres tremendo.. Checked out the scores of my GC friends and almost couldn't believe it.. Good stuff
Nah, mine is not a good score. Did it on an iPad 3. I have yet to achieve that same score on my iPhone 4S, which is where the game flows at full speed.
I'm sure this won't be a popular post, but I didn't care for this game. I deleted it in the first week I bought it. My main beef with it was the lack of a persistent progression system. I like my games to progress over time. I don't enjoy playing the same first levels each time and having to hope I progress a little farther the next time until I inevitably die and have to start from square one. I don't regret supporting the dev, but it wasn't my cup of tea. If a mode comes out with save points or a persistent progression system I'll gladly return.
What I'd love is a savestate which allows me to play 5 minutes, quit, and afterwards begin playing just where I left it. As for beginning on square one, I've always seen this game as a kind of "vertical Super Probotector". There are differences, of course, but the permadeath was there to "enjoy"
"Elegance, not simplicity: Devs weigh in on Downwell's irresistible charm": http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/257223/Elegance_not_simplicity_Devs_weigh_in_on_Downwells_irresistible_charm.php
First time that I reached world 4, the end of level 4-3 to be precise. Soooo great. Missed to see the boss by a few platforms down I guess. But I love world 4. Really unique again. Did I say that to me this is one of the best games ever released on iOS? My current 2 favorite palettes are Sewers and Nikaido.
