Doom Classic

I emailed John Carmack to ask - as I've been checking the app store daily since June and getting impatient - and he just replied:

Thanks for letting us know - I really hope to see this much sooner than later! It's been my #1 game I have been looking forward too since I finished the Wolf3D port.

Duke3D will hold me over once the update improving the controls goes live... assuming Apple approves it before Doom Classic haha

 

Thanks for the e-mail. I hope what he's been doing so long is making a Doom 2 for DLC. That would kick-ass.

 

We need a game-play video just to whet our appetites. This wait is killing me.

 

Oh man I really hope it comes out this month (as john said) it would be awesome and if he is improving wolf 3D into doom, I mean if it's better than wolf 3D it would be one of the best FPS's on the iPhone! Best being Modern Combat: Sandstorm

 

the hold-up has REALLLLLLY f'd up the potential of Doom Classic's sales as Modern Combat is actually really great, and does manage to piss all over doom regarding graphics....

Oh well, I'll still buy Doom Classic of course, I was a doom fanatic, but still my actual excitement and anticipation is long gone after playing MC:S.

 

Yeah, same here. I was reading a bit about Doom and Doom II (I had Doom 2 when I was young, but never finished it because it was too hard for me - again, young, very) and realized that Doom 2 actually has double the amount of critters, so now I wished that he was actually porting Doom 2 instead of 1. (it is 1 right? hence called "classic"?)

I was playing Wolfenstein and having only 2 critters in the first 8 levels was killing me. Doom 1 has 10 or something, but still more (Doom 2) is better

 

Doom Classic, place your bets as to when we'll see this.

I say not til November is my guess, because this month and next month it will be "nearing completion in the next couple of days". Love that! I think that was first said in April was it not?

 

I'd guess in late September or early October. (Since Carmack lately said that it would be ready soon, but then, when he didn't say? )
