I can't believe this great port of an iconic game is no longer in the store. It's not optimized for iPhone 5 wide screens but it still plays great.
General Arcade's Doomsday series is definitely worth looking into for fans of Doom. The controls are the same as ID Software's iOS port and content of Doomsday series is based on award winning Doom mods. Great stuff. I recommend Doomsday II for the tons of free downloadable level packs.
Doom Classic is back in the store, updated for wide screens and ios7 and better than ever. This really should be on the front page of Touch Arcade. This game is twenty years old but still great!
Totally agree, just been playing this when I saw the update and it's as good now as it was back in the 90's, I grew up playing doom and I love it.
Sadly it doesn't seem to work on the iPad, the options menus are missing the right hand side and when you try to start a game it is impossible to select a chapter or start the game. Hopefully it will be fixed soon.
I don't have that problem on my iPad 3. Try deleting the app, rebooting your device, and reinstalling?
I don't use the dual stick setup, I use the one stick on the left and fire in the right, This is old school there's no need for dual stick controls.
Was gonna say you dont need dual sticks, you cant look up or down or anything. Think the controls work well , just a simple fire button on the right Again to an oldie like myself i just love the fact i've got Doom with me at all times, such a classic game
It's back also RAGE HD,same update treatrement, was pulled from ID SOFTWARE due to' The issues with iOS 7,Now RAGE HD and DOOM CLASSIC can be' enjoy also on 4inch display
Well,i'm happy that DOOM it's back on App Store,but don't get me wrong,The last update was 112 MB(compressed) Now,it's only 29 MB? I'm pretty sure they cut something,but i don't know what!music changes?i'm a little bit confused..
Cool i didnt know they did that. Had a quick go and 'so far' seems okay. Love it when they compress these old games down. Depressing when some game from the 80's which was 0.5 meg is suddenly a 200 meg download on iOS because theyve added huge graphics/sound files etc.
If I remember correctly, the earlier versions used prerecorded MP3 (or M4A) versions of the music instead of the original MIDI style tunes. A few people here have commented on how the music sounds different, so my guess is that they switched over to using the original songs (generated on the fly instead of prerecorded) which would explain the massive decrease in file size.
I'm sure there used to be a way to bring the keyboard up to put the 'god' cheats etc,not possible now?
