He hasn't worked on it at all. Nothing is imminent with Doom 2 or Quake, it seems, although it sounds like he still wants to put them out eventually.

I picked this game up during the sale and I have to say, it's awesome. More fun than I remember it being, actually--much for fun than playing a Gameloft FPS, and I'm not trying to hate on Gameloft.

Question though--in the stage select menu, what does it mean when you see a little icon of a dead monster to the left of a level? I've been trying to figure that out. And why doesn't the color of a level change in the higher difficulty levels if you beat a level like it does on the easy level, from gray to green?

Was surprised to see an update for this last night and as someone who just got an Ipad2 last week I have to say the update is AWESOME! I was a little dissappointed when I tried the game previously and found it wouldn't even scale up to 2x on the ipad. Now, the game plays absolutely great on the pad and it looks really good too. Pleasant surprise... :)

DOOM remains a great fun game to play...

    Rails?

Is this game on rails? Is it more similar to say, MC or NOVA then RAGE in that you can move around?

No rails here. And unlike NOVA, the levels are decidedly NOT linear. You are not guided from room to room and instead must explore the levels to find the keys and the exit. Graphics are classically (and I can really use that term here) old skool but the game runs buttery smooth with excellent controls.

and as old school as the gfx are, I still find them very appealing. DOOM always did a great job of "selling" the fact that you were lost in this weird Martian base. The level design is just awesome...blows most modern fps games away afaic.

Hmm, seems the Update messed up my controls. I used to play it in 2x mode on my iPad, using the Single Pad controls and strafing with tilt controls which worked great for me. In my first game this still worked, but after checking out the new control options tilting just seems to be bound to "look left/right superslowly". It couldn't find an option to restore my old control scheme :(

    Also, multiplayer is gone. WTF?

    Is this too outdated?

Reading the recent reviews it sounds like this game is too old school. The screenshots look pretty remedial.

I'm just curious if users define this game as a 'must-have'. There are so many games being churned out by the week, that I am usually content just playing with the latest and greatest; Roboto, cordy, bumpy road, reckless getaway. These games are super awesome and I'm wondering how users would compare DOOM to the newer more polished games (not gameloft games..they seem to be going downhill as they all play the same).

Is this game a must-have for all gamers? Or is it a timeless classic that gamers who have played this game growing up will call it a must-have, where 'spoiled' gamers such as myself (only playing newer and top rated games) will find this kinda boring in comparison to the games I note above.

    Any thoughts much appreciated!

    Thanks!

hmmm, I'd say its totally worth having for anyone who's interested in the history of games and where todays games came from so to speak. Its still a very fun game too and it works really well on the idevices since its a bit simpler than modern fps in terms of control (no need to look up and down at all). I also think (as I said above) that the level designs are stupendous and really fun to run around in.

Its certainly worth a couple bucks anyway. Personally, I'd say Wolfenstein 3D is worth having too...

Is this must have or not - will you enjoy it next to the new games that you have...

I suggest finding (if there isn't one in this thread) a video of the gameplay. Each of the very many maps is open to explore and the game has
Adjustable difficulty and cheat codes for unlimited armoir, weapons, and having the keys.

    That really sucks.

Huge fan of doom, bought it when it was launched on iPhone and loved it.

now there's an update for it for my iPad, hooray!

but what,s that? ID no longer exists on the AppStore in New Zealand. So my app doesn't register for an update, and I don't get the new version.

    :/

I just REALLY want to know why I can't have the exact same control options that wolf3d has, put into this version of doom.

They're not the same, I like the way I have it setup in wolf3d 10000% more than in doom. I can take a screen shot of my controls if anyone is interested ha!

Hopefully they'll comment on why multiplayer was removed from doom soon too.

I found a way to update for those that have purchased it, but had it 'pulled' from their AppStore. As it turns out, the files are still the same. All you need to do is delete your version from iTunes, then search your purchases and redownload. Even though it's no longer on the store front, it still connects and downloads it.

I sent them an email regarding the missing tilt to strafe option. Here's what they answered:

    So people, another update inbound!
