Have you vote? ONE LAST DAY to make DON'T RUN WITH A PLASMA SWORD becomes this week's Touch Arcade Game of the Week. [thread=114872]VOTE HERE[/thread]
Lol, probably about half of those are friend requests, and the other half, people asking how you got so many OF pts.
Now why would you say that?! That's just self-defeating! You probably will not become game of the week because of the incredibly strong competition this week and because of TA's demographic, but I'm not into RPG's or IB so DRWAPS is definitely game of the week for me. Are you going to convince me I'm wrong? Now that I can play it on my iPhone as well as my iPad I want to second the iCloud suggestion (wow that are way to many i's in one sentence). It would be really cool to have the save file synchronized and be able to play on each device where you left off and (especially) have your upgrades available on each device.
Yeah, I have to agree with lena! You guys set the new bar for runners on the iOS platform! This week's GOTW competition was tough!
Oops sorry I had not checked the thread earlier today... wow, 1250...this is related to a bug supposed to be fixed with the next update (we'll try to send it tomorrow). At first we wanted to remove notifications for non-OF users only, but now I think that we'll remove them totally.
Thanks for your comments! We did indeed work hard to push back the limits on the runner genre! We'll see how things go on the long run but at least we're very happy with the people comments and critics reviews (you can find a list of 13 on our website). About iCloud, first we'll send an update to fix a couple of things, like the badge problem. Then we'll try to make another update with new controls support and include iCloud if possible.
Hopefully the reviews helps out with sales. I've been reading through all of this thread just recently and you guys seem like a great dev team. I really hope your sales pull through. You just got my buck.
Thanks! One of the things we'd like to do is to reduce the usual gap between devs and players. Like it or not, we're all into this together
Bought it this morning and only done a couple of levels before I had to set off for work. Looks like it's a decent game but could do with some things fixing up, personally. - As mentioned earlier, there needs to be more feedback when killing the robots. Doesn't feel right at all. - The jumping sound becomes quite annoying after a few jumps - Some animations need to be added when sliding, it doesn't look great just switching to a slide with no transition - Something isn't quite right with the jumps in general. At the top of the jump, the character just kind of stops suddenly and just shoots down. Again, could probably be a bit smoother? I need to play more but they're just observations from the first 5-10 minutes. Looking forward to playing more.
Thank you for your comments! Someone mentionned before that there was no sound feedback when hitting an ennemy, but I'm not sure I understand, there should be a 'splat' sound, unless it is bugged. We were actually planning to add a 'rotation' between jump sounds to make them less repetitive . Hopefully with the next update. That's true, we probably could add a couple of frames eventually. Since most people seem to like the gameplay a lot, I would not dare touching it at this point, for fear of unbalancing something.
Jumping feels perfect to me. I do agree that slicing through enemies could 'feel' better. More OOOMPH is needed so you feel like a bad-ass Jedi whooping tail and not just some dude knocking robots over as he runs by. See No More Heroes for a good example of how to accomplish this.
Visually, we agree that the ooommph effect could be increased. Toward the end of the project, we wanted to try animations where the enemies would get split, like if they had been cut down. But that was requiring a lot of work and we had no time to try it. We'll have to add it on the longer term wish list .
Funny that you mentioned No More Heroes. The first time I played this game the character and his sword instantly reminded me of the NMH guy. Anyway, still continuing to enjoy the game!
Ya me too. If NMH had a low budget side scrolling 2D endless running cousin I think this would be it.
As you already know, the game as a strong parody side, and NMH was one of the influences, indeed. Budget wise, obviously it was low compared to a console game. But on iPhone, 6000 hours of work bring it at about 15-25% of a AAA project, so I'd call it a luxury runner hehe.
