TriggyWiggy's list of 2012 Releases in the General Forums shows that the official Dominion app will be released this week. Has anyone seen confirmation of that anywhere?
I would not expect too much from the official Dominion app, besides some well-earned extra cents for Donald V. To quote a statement from Rio Grande Games, it will feature only a "basic" AI for "learning the game", not quite what I'm interested in. But maybe there's turn-based multiplayer Ascension-like, to make up for that.
Wow - I did not, but I would love for that to happen. Part of me sides with abstractgamefreak in terms of expectations, but I guess that only makes it easier to surpass them
Hopefully he's either being really humble about the AI OR they plan on working on more advanced AI for the later updates! I might even hold off until I hear some feedback from others and just stick to BoG for decent AI in a Dominion game. I'd rather give my money directly to the guys behind the REAL Dominion game but if they don't care about making a compelling single player experience, why should I support them?
They've been working for a rrreeeaaaalllllyyyyy long time on the official Dominion App so I'm expecting great things from them.
Battle of Gundabad. It's an iOS game similar to Dominion, but it's been plagued by a lot of bugs, lack of content, and bad balancing.
Sorry for the abbreviations but as I'm never sure of the spelling, let me look it up to be accurate (pause in real time...) At game end the player with the most victory points (VP) wins! The game consists of 27 cards with thousands of combinations and 2 game modes: Campaign and Normal Modes. In Campaign Mode you help Bolg to save his father by overcoming all kinds of challenges, while in Normal Mode every game you will be randomly assigned 10 out of 20 action cards which gives you thousands of different combinations. Battle of Gundabad is definitely a welcome addition to any deck building gamer's collection! Not being that familiar with Dominion I'm not sure if all of the action card effects are direct rips with slightly altered wording, but I wouldn't be surprised. I'm curious but, again, gather that this app might be more of a focus on simply a platform for multiplayer gaming across multiple platforms (iPhone guy vs. dude playing via Firefox) but then again he may have downplayed the AI simply because it can't compare to the expert players of the game in real-life. Maybe, as far as iOS boardgame AIs go it will still be decent. deadclown Well-Known Member Apr 13, 2009 904 0 0 #51 deadclown, Feb 14, 2012 I gotta say, this version of the game is really pretty solid, imo. The AI is occasionally extremely good, and only sometimes bad. The UI works well. It's smooth, fast, and so far bug-free. Frankly, I'm going to be surprised if the official app is as good as this one. My ONLY complaint is that it doesn't include the expansions! bgribin Well-Known Member Mar 7, 2009 355 0 0 Seattle, WA #52 bgribin, Feb 15, 2012 I'm interested in checking this out so I may download it... but I can't wait for the official app. pjft Well-Known Member Feb 15, 2011 1,082 8 38 #53 pjft, Feb 15, 2012 You should download it, for sure. I'm with deadclown: while I doubt it, if the original one is as good as this, we're in for a great surprise. Also, the BoG comment seems a bit negative in all fairness. "plagued by a lot of bugs, lack of content, and bad balancing" doesn't quite describe my experience with it. I've had a couple of bugs, but none of them game-breaking (all of them UI related, and only in the iPad version). As for lack of content, you can play campaign mode and regular one-off games. The bad balancing I imagine comes from the campaign designs, where you have to actually face different opponents that start with different cards than you. The cards' effects are a direct clone of Dominion, though, so if you're curious about Dominion, download both the free Dominion version, and then BoG if you want something more out of it. pjft Well-Known Member Feb 15, 2011 1,082 8 38 #54 pjft, Feb 16, 2012 Well, yesterday there was an update, which is at least a sign that the developer didn't stop the developments I've been playing it a bit these last few days and I've been having fun with it. So much for the official release rumor, though. After doing a mock play of the "First Game" Card Set with my wife with some fake cards, she actually liked it so I then bought the actual board game to play with her. Fun times ahead for us and Dominion!
