As far as precision goes we actually have it better than 360 on any screen size(even including arcade setup users IMO). If they didn't have absolutely perfect controls like they have done for both these games it would have been atrocious. I play on an iPhone 4 and I have tried all the screen sizes for both games. I still prefer medium in both games. For my finger size it is just enough area to use my finger to move but not cover the billion bullets headed my way.
Ive been using large since ESPGALUDA II. I'm playing with my iPad for dodonpachi though. I may try out the other two sizes when I'm free.
Hey could you guys test something out for me. It seems like by having the screen size set to small, this game encounters much more slowdowns and I'm not just talking about the end of each bossfight. I noticed them for example in the beginning of the first stage. I have an iPhone 4 and I was surprised by this. You can definitely tell the 2D sprites pop out and look heavenly on the "small" screen, but it seems the sacrifice are frame-rate drops. Can anyone confirm this with an iPhone 4?
One thing to note: you can not enter the ura(hidden) 2nd loop in easy mode! You have to play at NORMAL OR HARD difficulty to get into the hidden 2nd loop, I have already double-checked on that. For arcade mode, the condition is same as what people have posted. For iphone mode, you can enter the normal 2nd loop by collecting more than 35 bees and no continue clear the game, and enter the hidden 2nd loop if you play at normal or hard difficulty and collect all 45 bees (which means you have to always stay in the hidden route from stage 1, because there's only 7 bees per stage in normal route while 9 bees in hidden route) and no continue clear the game. This is FAR MORE EASIER than the arcade mode!!!! You can use bombs or die as you wish, as long as you get all bees and 1cc the game, you are bound to enter the hidden 2nd loop. Therefore, guys, if you really wants to take a look at the hidden boss, try iphone mode. If you beat the hidden 2nd loop, you can unlock the final hidden boss "HIBACHI" as a playable character in iphone mode. It's definitely the most powerful playable character in the game with 360 degree shots (when S guage is maxed) and strongest laser among the four. You can get a 120 point achievement by defeating Hibachi without continuing, which can be easily done in practice mode (arcade mode, Type-B strong, set bomb to 5) PS: In iphone mode, get the bee item when it's green will result in the S-M gauge move towards M, the gold bee will let the gauge move towards S. If you get it when it's flashing, your hit counter will increase by 150 immediately, which is the key of getting high score.
Can someone tell me where I can get some really nice artwork for this game in particular so I can use it as my home screen and lock screen on my iphone4? I've been trying to google but I can't find any high resolution pictures, thanks in advance.
Awesome, so the conditions aren't as strict in iPhone mode? I'll update my thread accordingly. First attempt at Open Second Loop (tsuujou) on Arcade Mode now on youtube. Ignore my awful score. Very bad getting into the second loop. Stage 1
Lite version : http://itunes.apple.com/nz/app/dodonpachi-resurrection-lite/id387180041?mt=8 Only available in NZ right now. Will roll out like all NZ releases
Cave put up a wallpaper of the title screen on their blog: http://caveworlden.wordpress.com/2010/08/27/dodonpachi-resurrection-1-in-japan-wallpaper-present/ You could also try searching for the original game's name (Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu or DDP DFK) to see if there's other artwork around.
Interestingly, I find that although Hibachi seems to be selectable in iPhone mode only, you can still use it in arcade practice mode. Just choose Hibachi in iPhone practice mode then go back to title screen, now if you go to arcade practice mode, the ship shown in the setup screen will show "Hibachi". I think it's a bug cuz you can not directly choose Hibachi in arcade, also there's no difference between strong and bomb type probably because the staff never worked on that part.
Came across this Cave interview: http://www.next-gen.biz/features/interview-cave Quick notes from it: They say 360 and iPhone aren't so hot at 2D, they were more concerned about being able to port the graphics than any control issues cause they saw the touch control work fine in Space Invaders (Infinity Gene I assume). Sounds like they plan on doing some original iPhone games down the line too. They've looked into the iPad but see the memory as a problem.
Whatever happened to "Ketsui Extra" that was supposed to be released for the 360 Live Arcade. Man I really wanna find out some more about Cave games since I just recently started playing them.
Ketsui came out as a retail release, back in April according to wikipedia. No clue if it was a region free release or not though. DDP DFK is coming out soon I think, redrawn with hi res graphics like Espgaluda II and Deathsmiles (only one to get a US release, $40 on Amazon right now). There's also Mushihimesama Futari, I think that one got a region free release, maybe Espgaluda II too. The previous Dodonpachi game got a 360 release too (Dai-ou-jou) but I heard it was kinda buggy, it might be fixed by now. Otherwise they released a few games on PS2, and all their older stuff (pre 1997 or so) is playable in MAME. edit-Vally and I (anyone else here?) made it onto Cave's blog!
While i'm not going to post links or help you find these, if you find out how to use MAME on PC, you can emulate a lot of Cave's older Arcade games: DonPachi DoDonPachi Dangun Feveron ESP Ra.De (Prequel to ESPGaluda) Guwange The original DoDonPachi is how a lot of people know Cave. That said, if you really want to get seriously into their latest games and own an Xbox 360, ESPGaluda II Black Label (Standard Edition) and Mushihimesama Futari are both completely region free, so they'll work on any xbox 360. Dodonpachi Daioujou Black Label Extra and Ketsui Extra are both region locked so if you want to play them you're going to need a Japanese XB360. Personally, I don't rate Daioujou or Ketsui very highly. Daioujou was good if you weren't playing for score, but due to the extreme difficulty, the best scoring chaining routes through the stages are ridiculously tight and awkward. Absolutely tons of people rave about Ketsui being Cave's best game ever. I disagree - I don't enjoy the scoring system on it. If you absolutely must get one Cave game, buy Mushihimesama Futari on XB360, and buy the Black Label DLC for it. It's their best, in my opinion.
ordered my new touch... I will so get this game!!! Hopefully it will not damage my brain, since the videos are really overkill. PErhabs one gets "into it"!? I really enjoy TouHou Shoot the bullet (superfrustrating, but cool) and the imparishable night (both not cave).
Now, this is still obviously my absolute favorite game on the platform, but I have two pretty major complaints about it. One, why in the HELL can't you turn off the bomb button in Bomb and Power mode? It's completely WORTHLESS and has caused me to waste bombs countless times when I was going for my laser button. The second is the responsiveness of the buttons themselves. Words cannot adequately describe how annoying it is when you're doing really well in a run, go for your laser, nothing happens, and you get PWNED IN THE FACE. Aince these are both closely related issues, they have both aided in keeping a lot of my scores much lower than they could be, which is really annoying. In general, neither of these problem strongly effect the overall fun or intense nature of the game, but, again, it pisses me off.
Can someone post a quick explanation of the Arcade Mode readings in the upper left of the screen? I get the Hyper Gauge and Hit Count Meter; was wondering about the gauge to the left of those. Is that the Chain Gauge? Thanks in advance for any info.
I'm one of those people I haven't played those but have seen them occasionally, if you have fun with those you should be fine with Cave stuff. Power mode actually has no bomb button...so I assume you mean Strong. The button is there cause manual bombs last longer than auto bombs, there's many strategic uses for it. If you don't want the bomb button I guess the only option is to switch to Power mode. And yeah the button responsiveness is a problem, I've emailed them about it and they seem to be aware of it. The last update seemed to have helped slightly but not completely. Yeah that's the chain timer, if that goes down all the way your chain ends. If you're holding a laser on an enemy (like a boss) it'll keep the chain timer alive.
