I am a little disappointed it took so long for DataViz to release their mini office suite and it looks unimpressively incomplete. There is no Excel document editing. There is no file sharing via MobileMe (only Wi-Fi with the assistance of a Vista/OS X companion.) I would still like to hear opinions from those who have actually tried it, however. It may be too soon to tell which is the clear winner. When I was looking into virtualization, Parallels Desktop was ahead of VMWare Fusion for a while, then the tables suddenly turned and, years later, have not turned back. I have waited this long, I can wait longer to see how this plays out.
No Excel and PowerPoint editing? No iDisk support? Just Word editing. Unbelievable! The Quickoffice maker will be very happy. No competition for them.
It is only 4,99 for the version without exchange support. I just read their twitter page they have some plans of adding excel editing and mobileme synchronization.DTG Word has more features than the QO one. I'll wait for some comparisons and reviews.
I'm currently iPhone-less as I await the 3Gs (sold my 3G), so I can't test for you guys. Sorry. Documents to go looks pretty impressive, and it's only the start. For $5 you can have full .doc editing and eventually .xls. That rocks. By waiting and not buying quickoffice, I've saved $15! That's good news for me.
The sad part is that they didnt even bother to put any plans for future updates in the description. Are they just betting on their cheaper price (4.99) as compared to QO? I was hoping for ppt editing. Edit: Their twitter feed has more info apparently:
Meh. I never really liked Docs to Go. I actually preferred QuickOffice on the Palm and PocketPC. It's a lot more expensive on iPhone though, but DTG being cheaper isn't really going to encourage me if it doesn't do what I want. Heck, Excel editing was one of the things I used QuickOffice for.
Does anyone know if DTG with exchange works with google sync mobile. It uses the microsoft exchange protocol. it should work, doesn't it? I don't know if I should get the 4,99 or the 9,99 version. Thanks
No, it doesn't. Google CALENDAR and CONTACTS use the Exchange protocol. Google Mail does not! So the support for Exchange servers is really only useful if your company uses it for their mail AND have an Internet interface. That last requirement is definitely not true for my company and I doubt there are many.
The 4,99 version is getting in-app mail. The 9,99 as already have exchange is not getting it. It would be better to have both ways.
Dataviz have tweeted to say the excel editing update has been submitted to Apple. Preview video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSCAGWOVSxQ&feature=youtube_gdata looks pretty good. I partcularly like the sheet selector.
