I would love to see The War Doctor show up. Especially if we eventually get some Time War/Day of the Doctor levels. Another character that I would love to see is Frobisher (the shape-shifting penguin), although I know.. most players would probably have no idea who/what he is.
No spoilers But I will tell you that we are announcing on monday the next 3 Doctors who will appear in the game (they'll go live over the next two weeks leading to Christmas).
The War Doctor would be awesome, indeed. Just finished off Season 6. Now it's time to go back and try for all the character and costume drops and level up other people and what not.
I've got to hand it to you on the new hard mode levels, they're positively brutal. I didn't think you had it in you. Also I see you adjusted the cooldown on the 5->2 gem change skills to 9->6. I'm going to have to adjust to not being able to constantly fire off gem changes now, but I should be able to make this work. I don't have Flesh Doctor, did you change his too? I think his was 7->4 originally or something like that?
So in effect, you've made it three times more difficult to use the powers. Making adjustments to skill usage that aligns with the hardcore gamer, rather than aiming at the middle of the pack, is never a good idea. While they might find things too easy, and are now pleased with the "challenge", I guarantee you've just locked out a good number of lesser skilled players. I know I went from winning and progressing a good number of matches, to losing 10 times in a row and quitting. I didn't even rely on the gem change skills all that much, but I'm finding that they're simply no longer there when I really need them. If you must tune the game, please do so for the mid-core gamer (between casual and hardcore), that way you are unlikely to impede the progress of your ardent casual fans too.
Not at all --- we are absolutely not in any way catering to the hardcore, don't worry about that! It's going to be a process as with everything in the game, to balance things right. We're looking at tweaking the later progression based on feedback to make it a continued challenge as you get better at the game. Rokstar had brought up rightly that they cooldown was too negligible (and he wasn't the only one to give us that feedback) at the highest current character evolution. Which just wasnt intended. In order to avoid making the game too hard for the mid and casual core we will continue to do things like we did today --- create Hard mode and Normal mode levels so as to provide appropriate challenges for everyone Please provide us feedback if you ever feel like we are too hard or too easy. We want to hear from our players. thanks!
I don't know if it'd be more trouble than it's worth, but I wonder if it would be possible to do something like have an adjustable difficulty level in the options which would affect skill cooldowns. I've seen people unhappy with the cooldown changes on Facebook too, so... I dunno, just an idea. I personally would have done 8->5 on the gem changes, but 9->6 is probably fine. Blue was way overpowered compared to the other colors so I agree with the changes. Also, there's a strange thing, possibly a bug, I found today - on the Night Terrors levels, when a toy soldier (and only a toy soldier, which is why I think this is a bug) does a gem change skill, his countdown gets stuck at 0 and he can only keep doing the orb change skill until he dies. e: Someone on Facebook brought up a good point that I hadn't thought of because quite frankly I haven't really paid attention to it - do the companions that start out at 2* affect the Doctor's level based on their levels in the same way that the 1* starting companions do? Because if they do, the Doctor is going to wind up much weaker with 2* starters on the team even though those companions are better than 1* starters overall because they max out 10 levels earlier. For that I'd recommend either starting the 2* guys out at level 11 (like the person on FB suggested), or just putting in some sort of (companion level += 10) thing for 2* starters when the Doctor's level is computed.
Not everyone plays this game the same way, or for the same reasons. As far as I'm concerned, you've broken the game. I'm no longer playing it. I'll check back on occasion to see if you ever fix this, but will most likely just delete it and go play something else that I can count on to stay stable and fun. I'm not a Doctor Who fanatic, so playing this for me was more about a good match-3 battling game, like Puzzle Quest. Constant changes makes me feel like more of a beta tester, and "rebalancing" in favor of one type of game play makes me feel like my style of play isn't welcome. That might not be what you intend, but it's the fallout.
Is there a max level? I got one of my characters to level 40 and there's no options to upgrade to the next rank, all of the crystals are grayed out.
It's been reported in a number of places that 40 is the current max level. Once Season 5 is released, then they'll be able to progress.
I find it rather strange that the cooldown change for one type of ability has impacted the game so much for you that you not only feel your playstyle has been affected, but that you feel the game is no longer enjoyable enough to play or even keep on your device. Seems like a pretty dramatic reaction to something so minor.
Really sorry to hear you feel that way. I'm not really sure how this change had anything to do with or any impact on play style. RPGs are a very touchy feely sort of game to develop -- they are very much about scaling, about the interactions between stats, abilities, enemy abilities and attributes and so forth. That's why if you, for example, play live RPGs (MMOs etc) you see occasional (or frequent depending on the game........) changes to better balance the experience. If you were only looking for the gem play and didn't want the challenge to begin to scale up, I might point out that with no energy system and everything you have done up til now unlocked, you could continue to play at the level you wish for as long as you like. We're not forcing anyone to progress. As you said, everyone has their own play style and we try to respect and support all of them. One example, btw, is drop rates. We didn't actually expect our fans to be such die hard collectors of each and every companion (to the point we had to really nudge people to continue the progression and not stay so long on one level feeling frustrated). We designed the game with the idea that you would progress through, perhaps occasionally finding a character you really wanted to grind for but mainly assembling a part of allies as they came along, leveling up and progressing. When we found out that there was a large contingent not playing that way, we felt it was the right thing to do to boost the drops a bit (doubled the rate in fact). Anyway, I suppose what I'm trying to say is we are here, we are listening (more than many I think...) but sadly, we ultimately can't please everyone. I do hope you'll reconsider and stick around. Yeah, the two Doctors (I thought they were announcing three?) announced are my two least favorites but that means they can only go up from here, and todays gift was pretty easy to grab. Nice treat. Maybe Tom Baker on Christmas. =)
Where's my Colin Baker? I'm connected to wi-fi, I've relaunched about 8 times, I've played the level a dozen times and Colin just won't appear. *sulks*
Did you mean to change the cooldown on all the orb changes or just some? Spoonhead is still 9->6 on my end after the update.
I can't get him to show up either. In fact, when I'm connected to wifi, my game refuses to even launch. On the bright side, it appears we no longer need to be connected to the internet to start the game, so I can at least replay the levels I still need characters from.
