Do you reckon the iPhone 4 will be hurt by the Antenna issues?

It's weird because my Mum (who doesn't know anything lol) said to me today about what phone she should get for her upgrade. I basically said the iPhone 4 because it would suit her but one she hates not having physical keys and two she mentioned the signal issues on the news. Again today in town at a pub, chatting to a guy and over hearing other people, they all seem to mention the Antenna on the iPhone 4. Just seems like everyone you bump into knows what an iPhone is and yet they don't own one, but also are put off by this news. I think it has been on TV alot and has spread through word of mouth.

Just wondering how much this will impact the iPhone 4 and how quickly Apple will need to fix it. The reason why it has sold so many so far is because all the fanbois lined up on the first day. Though most people I know don't own one because they're too expensive and end up getting a HTC desire or stick with Nokia since the 3210. Yet they are all put off by hearing this bad news and say they wouldn't get one. Is it too late for the iPhone 4, like has the bad rep harmed it with the casuals, or have Apple gotta save it quickly?

I for one am looking for a new phone and wont buy the iPhone 4 until the issue is fixed. I know alot of people don't report any issue, but I don't want a phone that will stop signal just because I hold it in my left hand lol.

    no

I don't think so. In the long run I think people are going to use cases, which helps the reception problem. Which means that the reception problem is not going to be a giant purchase factor, because the cries are going to die down. One of the reasons I think apple made bumpers.

But cases are usually fugly and Apple makes a big deal out of the cosmetics of it's products. I don't think it'll hurt sales though, people buy any old shit these days.

I'm not sure either way, I think it sucks to have to use a bumper to stop reception issues. IMO I would not be happy buying a new iphone, and then being told that if I wanted it to work, buy a bumper. I really want to upgrade, but still need to see how this plays out.

I don't see how it can't hurt them. It's been a public relations disaster, not helped by Job's tendency to answer questions short and (not so) sweetly. But then again, what do I know? I do know that, even with myself being a big fan of the iPhone, I find myself worried about the iPhone 4 I have on order. Will it be as big of a problem as has been stated? You can't help but worry about it, and I imagine that has to impact sales, and Job's remarks might even stymie sales of other Apple products.
