Also, what do you do for living? If in school, what are you studying for? What's your dream job? Me, I'm a custom railing installer, I do a lot of finishing carpentry. I like my job, I'm self employed so I get to be the boss. It's not my favourite job but I'm pretty good at it and it pays fairly well. I would still like to learn how to code and make my own game someday, but I don't see myself becoming full-time coder. Overall I like working with my hands, creating stuff, I guess I could do a lot worse. What about you?
I work in a stock brokerage mon-fri, doing private equity deals, account maintenance, and whatever else comes down the slide. However,....this is not the life I would choose. On weekends I bust my ass at my friends Bonsai nursery. This is my passion, and my hope lies in one day being able to operate my own nursery. Check some of his work here: http://www.wigertsbonsai.com
That's a nice web site! I've always thought Bonzai work would be cool. The funny thing is my first exposure to it came when I saw Karate Kid (in the theatres, I'm a fossil) for the first time.
Here's one of the biggest job I've done, mind you they are not all like that but I really like this one. I live in central Ontario, Canada. PM me if you like what you see (sorry for spamming)
Yeah, I'm always working for rich people, it's a little depressing sometime. My friends think that I'm doing pretty well, compare to them I guess. Then I walk in a house like this one and I'm reminded that I'm just a regular middle class dude. The nice thing about it is that my rich customers don't seem to be affected by the economy, it's surprising how many people have more money than brain. Just curious, how much is a regular bonsai for sale?
At our nursery it's about $30 for young, just potted trees, all the way up to about $20,000 for the "specimen quality" bonsai. For a "nice" specimen quality tree your probably looking at $3,000 to $5,000. But making them is really where the fun is...and that can cost as little as $0....
I am a photographer specializing in interiors and architecture. I shoot for some of the top designers on Long Island and in NYC. I also create abstract art. I have about 2 shoots a week and spend a lot of time processing images, but have more free time than ever. I'm up til 4am most nights gaming and writing music. Been doing this full time since June 2008 and having the best time of my life...
I currently work at the top of information security for a very large corporation. I absolutely hate it and am currently trying to find a more "hands on" profession to get into like working with wood in some way, I considered apprenticing under a furniture restoration expert, craftsman or carpenter to learn this trade. but yeah, I have had more than my fill of technology in these years and I'm ready to live a more simple life.
Well, I am the local 'supergenius' and I own a large company. My grandmother is a multimillionare so I still consider her apart of my family. I can't drive yet so I use my stacks to buy a limo driver. Lucky for him I am very generous; I don't need to pay him, but I do toss in a few $100 bills I use to wipe my butt with into his doggy house. I like to keep up with the Apple rumors, but Steve Jobs has been busy as of late and hasn't had time to come over for tea for a while. But using my supergenius skills, I have deducted from everyday talk and memory patterns that the new ipod will in fact be 84 gb. My company specializes in Memory Cards, but we also buy and sell other companies for profit, somewhat like the stock market. Our latest aquisition was Microsoft, but we let them go due to a low consumer base population. But I hate my job because it forces me to leave this site for a few minutes a day.
I LOVE my job. I'm self employed and I do what I absolutely love to do. I don't make a lot at the moment, but the freedom makes it worth it. Although, the money is getting better and I'm receiving more attention for what I'm doing than I know what to do with. I'm even going to be in a book that being published net year for my work. WTF? I'm not sure if I want to give it away, though. I kind of like being anonymous on the internet.
ah, you live in a place I would love to live in! Trying to ditch my techno life for something more simple, in a simpler and slower place. Hope that's what you get to do
I actually used to live in San Francisco. I got my BFA from the Academy of Art. I still miss some things about it. I went back there last spring for a week. It's still as beautiful and ugly as it was when I lived there a few years ago.
I grew up near the city. It's certainly unique. @Dogmeat: That's an expensive place to try a new career. Kind of restricts your options.
