personally I think the wii is the best console and the iPad the best portable game player. I have other options but pretty much these two devices is what I game on.
There are actually plenty of good non-mario games, but I can see why you would avoid a company who's main mascot is, as you put it, a fat plumber in blue overalls.
The only reason the graphics are so good in Infinity Blade is because it sacrificed how many characters can be on screen at once and it has a really low frame-rate. That's why you never seen graphics like that on a Wii. Nobody want's to play a game that has only one vs. one battles on a console. I have yet to see a game that looks as good as Resident Evil 4 and Conduit 2 on an iPhone.
