Half the apps I try to download lately aren't on the store anymore. Like I restored my iPhone and can't download them again........... frigging surely I get a refund? Spent hundreds on apps and I should always have access to them.

You can ask apple, but don't get your hopes up.

I've never tried, but they do occasionally give refunds.

    Over there --->
No, they probably won't. But there's no harm in trying, and if you really spent "hundreds" then it'll be worth it if it works.

Didn't you sync them to your computer?

I have never read the whole agreement, but as they allow backups, I'm pretty sure they won't be too sympathetic about your desire for them to have every app they ever carried to always be available. Developers have to pay their annual fees, apps get sold, etc. , etc. Best plan is to backup your purchases.

Sorry if I sound rude or anything but as I see it, you pay $2 or something to play a game in an arcade that lasts for about 10 mins.
Surely it doesn't take long to get $1 or $3 or whatever worth of value out of a game you get on itunes.
Also, if you buy a program for your computer and don't back it up, then lose the disc and then later down the track lose eveything on your harddrive and the program was no longer available because it was old would you want a refund?

I'd be disappointed if it was a game I really enjoyed but I'd take it on the chin and learn to back stuff up next time.

I don't see why you should. Just like if I bought a game from Woolworths, I couldn't ask for a refund just because it went bust and I lost the disc!

Well I've lost a good 50 odd quid on pulled apps alone and looking at my purchase history I've spent 600 quid in a year on apps. So even though they're like 2 quid an app or some 5 - 20 quid for high end ones, I expect them to stay on the store for me to download. I'm not going to back them all up to a PC because I want them server side and not clogging up my space. Also it's a mobile and I run it off the mains and don't want to have a PC just to be able to use it. It's not like losing a disc because you're purchasing a hard copy, a download is just a copy.

This is the worry I had with digital downloads and if I had the choice I would buy a hard copy, but we can't so Apple should provide a better service. Already have to struggle with the shit that is iTunes and if my PC breaks and I need to Sync then all my Music is gone and I have to get all the cds out again.....

Going Android next time I swear, this is why people pirate because you can always get it where actually trying to be a good customer you get shafted by copy protection and Apple's ego.

I really understand your frustration, but you are not being realistic. Developers have to pay annual fees to Apple to maintain apps for sale, and they have to support them. If they don't, they get pulled. The apps, and companies get bought and sold all the time, and again this necessitates a change in the app, or who gets the money, and so the original is not going to be available.

Good luck with Android, that won't be any different, as they have the same rules that everyone has to play by. Apps still have to be supported, developers have to pay their fees, etc...

This has been problematic for many years, and is one of the reasons that backup debates still rage (not for apps, but for DVD, Blu-ray, Console games, etc..) People don't want to lose their "investment" .

And as for this being a reason that people pirate - if you gave this answer on family feud, you would get the big red X...

So, despite your not wanting to backup, and your having issues with iTunes, backing up is still the best solution. The same issues will still exist even when everything is cloud based, as large companies are not going to support, or maintain things that are not generating revenue for them, and server space, bandwidth is money...

    (steps off soapbox)...

I did a backup but I'm guessing it doesn't save apps cause the file size is tiny. So I'm guessing you have to transfer purchases but frigging it takes forever and crashes my iTunes all the time and then I have to start again cause only some apps saved.

Android wont suffer the problems because I'll just torrent apps and put them on the phone. Again this is why I prefer piracy because it is just better, you don't have to go through such crap copy protection. Gabe the head of Valve came out with a statement that I agreed with on how companies just don't understand why people pirate stuff. It is simply to get away from the restrictions these companies like Apple place.

My mate on his HD2 has got Windows 6.5, Android and Windows Phone 7 all loaded up on to it. He cane use flash, run emulators, watch any file format he wants, swap his battery out when the other runs down. He can freely transfer files from his PC to the device and swap out memory so it never becomes full. He can do all these things and then I'm restricted by Apple so I can't do anything I want. They even pulled Sword and Poker and frigging iDos, 2 apps I loved and now I can't get them anymore unless I jailbreak. If I'm gonna jailbreak, I might as well get android.

Well, there are going to be advantages due to the OS. Apple is very restrictive in some regards.

WRT piracy - there are no two ways about it, it's stealing. You can justify however you want, but it does not change what it is. Just remember that Karma can be a bitch.

although pirating can be bad......it is useful if someone wanted to download a game that had been removed off the appstore.......sort of like idos......and the flashlight app that turned out to have tethering capabilities

If you synced your apps with your computer, they should still be there. Also, I know it can be a hassle, but before you restored your iphone, you should've backed it up. I still have a bunch of apps that were pulled when Apple changed their system and kept the 'R' rated stuff! I'm really glad I have them since if and until they change the acceptance policy, I won't be able to get that type of app again. I know if I lost all my apps, and there's around 700 of them as of right now, I'd be broken-hearted too!
