Yea why is it that Gameloft and ea to an extent is basically the only company along with donut games who makes original games not found on flash sites for free or browser applications like facebook? Everything else including braveheart either got ported from those or could easily be made in flash. Why cant we get more aralons or gameloft like games?

    time and money

Ok a couple of points about game making.

    1) Massive deep 3D games are made by big teams and take alot of money. Slowly the mentality is changing where people are buying $4.99-$5.99 games. Until it becomes a regular fact , companies wont commit big budgets to iphone gaming as a whole. But companies will expirement here and there . Alot of big companies are looking at the success of games like infinity blade and NOVA 2 before they jump in and commit to a full lenght game.

    2) I think small developers should try to make games like mega man, castlvania, zelda, etc. Alot of indie developers dont have the tools ,time,or budget to make huge games. That said I dont think they should make crap either. I think most developers are scared to take 6 months to make a solid game and then it doesnt do well.

    3) I see the quality of games rising up slowly. The games we have already are pretty good and getting better. Everyone needs to be a little patient and understand that your getting some solid games for $4.99-$7.99 . Just read and rescearch before buying a game. Please dont get caught in the hype and get disappointed. Also do some rescearch on how games are made and what it takes. That will open your eyes to the process and you understand devs better.

Thank you for your time in reading the post and hope it helps you out.

Why I would prefer iOS gaming?

Just add my gain of salt:

First off, I don't have a PSP and I always thought DS was superior. I have a library of DS games in the cupboard.

And then they stay there permanently due to iOS...

Yes, contents are king! (Visual is queen, right?) But IB and Rage are just the beginning, from track records of id and Epic, they are famous for the visuals and engines, on the other hand, they (mute).... Then shortly, we have Dungeon Defenders: First Wave, which is based on Unreal Engine 3 and co-op is big fun. Period.

I stand by with many Wii and DS gamers and throw the argument of casual vs hardcore out of the window. I want to play games and have fun. As of today, Wii and DS deliver and iOS excels.

I don't need a full cupboard to hold my games anymore, I can carry a lot of games around on one device and call it out at will. If I want a new game any time, I can get it through iTunes from the rig, or wherever I can find a data comm.

    Beat that.

As for some complaints about the length, well, how many extra episodes of Battle for Wesnoth are there? Chu Chu Rockets? Space Invaders Infinite Gene? Pacman Championship Edition? Extra characters for your Street Fighter IV? And how much do they charge?

    Free!

    Again, beat that.

I am not even talking about the massive flood of new titles we have before this Christmas!

If anyone here beats the career mode of GT Racing: Motor Academy, UniWar, Rogue Planet, Angry Birds, or any old titles alike this in "2 or 3 hours", it is our great honor to see you brag.

As usual, feel free to disagree.

I honestly have to say that ios is kind of close to the psp in terms of games, but at the same time, ios games are (for the most part) far from the quality of psp games.

I own a ds, psp, and an iPod Touch (4th gen), and out of all of them, I play the iPod the most, I play the psp fairly often, and I rarely power on my ds. The main reason I don't play my psp more than my iPod, is mainly because its big, and I can do more on my iPod than on my psp. So that means that I pretty much always have my iPod on me (at school, running errands, etc.). I only really take my psp if I am going on a road trip/vacation, or sometimes if I'm going to somebodies house. If my psp were smaller and it did more without me having to run cfw, then I would probably go everywhere with it.

In terms of games, the psp has a smaller game library, but far more of its games are quality games. The majority of ios games are shovelware (a problem that plagues the ds too).

Graphically, I'd half to say that they are almost even (ios has a slight advantage). On the ios side of things: infinity blade is very good looking, but it doesn't run at a high framerate, it doesn't have a lot of effects/eye candy in it, and the amount of enemies on screen is small (1). Rage (in my personal opinion) is graphically superior to infinity blade in pretty much every aspect except for geometry. The geometry in rage can be bad at times (players hands for example), and can look slighty above ps1 quality (in terms of geometry only). On the psp side of things: God of War: Ghost of Sparta has massive environments, massive enemies, large amounts of on screen enemies, lots of great effects/eye candy, good textures, and good geometry. It makes a good portion of ps2 games look outdated in comparison.

In terms of gameplay, some of them are very close (and some are on par) with psp games. Others are... either terrible or not close at all. Games like Nova (which got ported to the psp as a mini btw) don't really compare with games like Socom, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, or Medal of Honor. Nova is below a good portion of psp games in terms of gameplay, because it is a very dumbed down. Thats not to say it isn't a good game, but its more primitive feeling than other games. The guide arrow really adds to the dumbed down feel, and the linear levels, and little variety in weapons doesn't help it much either. And thats not mentioning crappy AI, and few options for multiplayer. Socom: Fireteam Bravo 3 in comparison, has for the most part non-linear levels, with several secondary objectives, a crap load of weapons and customizations available for them, a good AI, and campaign multiplayer with several different modes of competitive multiplayer. Games like Aralon, or Dungeon Defenders are comparable to psp games in quality of gameplay (note: there are not any western style rpgs on the psp, but Aralon is of console quality).

If you looked at my personal playtime in a psp game, say MGS: PW for example, it would show more play hours than I have put into any ios games. I play my iPod more, but I put more time into a single psp game than a single iPod game.

The biggest problem I have with ios, is there are so many good cheap games, that I buy new ones and stop playing old ones without beating them. I get bored of ios games more quickly than psp games (and that works, because of the low price points)

Also, typical ios games tend to come out with/have more bugs/glitches than a typical psp game.

Overall, psp still beats ios (and ios beats the ds), but they are almost equals. When the psp2 comes out, the gap should grow again (considering that the psp is kinda old now).

Btw, I think most of you who are ragging on the psp have either never played one, or never played any quality psp games. Quit being such fanboys:cool:

I pretty much totally agree with tygamr and I own both myself the PSP is a great little system even more so considering it's age. For pure gaming and quality of games it is still better but the advantage of the touch is of course portability and having it at all times.

I do believe the PSP is at the end of it's life but I'm sure monster hunter third on it's own will keep it kicking for a while even when the PSP2 is available.

What I like about the PSP over the ipod is I can game for 5 hours or so then just switch battery and go again and the games are not very far away from a proper console experience.

What I like about the Ipod over the PSP is game prices and being able to do almost anything I can with a laptop with the right apps and of course games are getting much better with time.
