I agree with some of the things Dumaz and Squarezero said, would rather not get in a lengthy discussion about it since this topic seems to pop up every week, but I'd hope the newer iOS devices would start catching up by now seeing as the PSP has been out for 5+ years now. Pretty impressive that the PSP can still hold its own nowadays in terms of games/graphics. I still think the PSP has a better gaming line up as far as AAA releases go, but which device you prefer is just based on what type of gaming experience you're looking for. It'll be interesting to see how the iDevices stack up(or don't for that matter) to the PSP2 when it's announced.
The PSP pushes out 33 million triangles per second; while the iPhone 3GS and 4 pushes out 28 million. I think the iPhone 4 and PSP are equal in terms of graphics since the iPhone 4 has a high res screen.
Id rather play retro games and 2d platformers than any of the so called aaa psp games. Heck id rather play the original nes.
Well the older idevices with the standard screen can run games which look on par with the PSP, but the 4th gen devices blow the PSP out of the water when it comes to graphics. Tomb Raider, PSP Shadow Guardian, iPhone 4 Gran Turismo, PSP Real Racing 2, iPhone 4 Coded Arms, PSP NOVA 2, iPhone 4 I could go on, but I think you probably get the point.
Its not just in graphics but in gameplay the gsmes you listed above thump the competition just as bad.
Its amazing how big of a year the iOS has had in terms of games. If this was last year, i would bet the argument would be heavily one sided for PSP. Is funny that chinatown wars which is one of the all time highest rated handheld games ever is rarely even mentioned anymore since there are such a vast selection of high quality iOS games now.
I mean NOVA 2 is sporting some very impressive enemy AI this time around. Very fun and im completely impressed with what developers have done with this platform.
Yes but you're comparing the best iPhone games to the worst PSP games. In that way, I'm sure the iPhone has better graphics than some XBox 360 games Find me one iPhone game with better graphics than Crisis Core or MGSW. One. And that's besides the point. Graphics aren't the whole game. The PSP has physical buttons, lending it a massive advantage Again. To repeat what I said earlier. iOS gaming is probably better as a whole when you take price and availability into account. But to say the games are better than the PSP games? Blasphemy
It's funny how the ios has uncharted but pap doesn't. Why hasn't Sony put a proper uncharted on the psp or a sly Cooper, team ico type game, etc. They aren't really supporting it that much.
The idevices have the geryscope and acceleometer which is better for racing games like real racing 2 and nfs hot pursuit, plusnthe ipad has a gorgeous huge screen which makes the experience much better, getbthenpoint. We could keep doing thus all day and night. And the psp probably has the worst control layout of any button or nonbutton portablento date. My hands kept cramming with games using the left shoulder button for instance and dont tell me youve nevr esperienced this when you have to use both shoulder buttons.
The PSP is not built for shooters. God of War, Little Big Planet, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, GTA Vice City, Final Fantasy: Crisis Core, Final Fantasy: Dissidia, Daxter, Patapon 2. Does iOS have any of those? iOS does not have better games than the PSP. They might be a better deal, but quality wise, they are far outclassed
I have small hands anyways, so I don't have much problem with the hand cramping. I could imagine it might be an issue for some, but it's a small price to pay. One of the worst control layouts? What? Everything is easy to find and makes sense. The analog stick might be a tad sensitive but it works fine. Ok, so the iDevice has better racing games...and the PSP has better everything in every other sport "getbthenpoint"?
IOS games are heading in the right direction, no question about that. I own iPhone 3GS and instantly decided to get iPod touch just for gaming. This shows that I was enjoying gaming in my iPod touch. However, I find IOS games lacking depth and smoothness to completely jump in the wagon. With all due respect, it seems like games are being released with out proper testing and care. I can mention Aralon and BFBC2 as an example. Just because IOS games cost less than console games, it doesn't mean developers don't have to give their 100% before they release their games. The problem does not only lie on the developers, but also the idevice itself. Until apple implemented an alternative control to the idevice, IOS gaming has a long way to go.
iPhone: 1GHz A4 chip, 512MB RAM PSP: 333MHz chip, 32MB RAM I also find FPS controls on the touchscreen... nice. They are not awkward to use, although keyboard + mouse beats everything else.
No, I was comparing the most appropriate PSP games to the iPhone games. I haven't played Crisis Core in the PSP, but the graphics of MGS: PW look terrible and grainy. I can think of plenty if iPhone games that look better than MGS: PW, Shadow Guardian, Modern Combat 2, Infinity Blade, NOVA 2 etc. And I think buttons are overrated. For FPS and action/adventure games, the touch screen is much better. Racing games are also much better with the accelerometer or touchscreen. In fact the only game I can think of where I'd rather use the PSP's controls would be for fighting games and 2D RPGs. As for games, there are lots of genres that the PSP is lacking in. There aren't really any decent FPS games, and even the better ones (MoH 1 & 2) still can't be controlled well because of the PSP's crappy controls. I suppose the PSP is good if you like JRPGs or fighting games, but for most other games I'd much rather play the iOS equivalent. I bought the very first PSP, not long after it was launched and the next 2 models, and I've played at least 50 PSP games. And I can honestly say that in my opinion, the iPhone 4 is a better gaming device. You can disagree all you like, but it's what I personally prefer.
I used to own a PSP. I like the choice game of games on iOS way more than the PSP. They are cheaper and they are so much fun, plus there are new ones all the time!
The ios does have gta. It also has two 3d gtas by gameloft. I havent played either but heard they greatly improved the miami onein the recent hd treatment for ipad. Why do you keep trying to convince all of us psp games are better? Some ppl dont like playng ps2 ports, 3d games on handhelds, and crppy fps and racing games and endless jrpg clones.
And the ios arguably has the better sega lineup than the psp because its got chu chu rocket which translates perfectly to the ios strengths and controls. I dont think sega put much effort into its crazy taxis or sonics on the psp as they were just racing sonic games and short.
graphcis wise there's no comparison. but gaming wise, the psp takes the cake hands down. but the psp also suffers from having filled with lacklustre games much like what we have on the appstore. but they also have stuff like monster hunter, final fantasy, and god of war saving their ass. the appstore is still waiting for a major games company to bring something epic to the table. cuz as of now i see a lot of good games but non that are great. as for me, i didnt really like the psp control scheme for open world 3d games like monster hunter just for the fact that they only have one analog nub. camera control was a bi*ch so in a way, fps games and 3ps games fare much better on touch screen devices as well as racing games. in a nutshell the ios games are better looking but the psp has a lot of AAA titles that the ios is yet to receive. so as for the title of this thread, personally i think no, ios games are still not on par with psp games but we're getting there. :3
