Game Impressions HD Gameplay Trailer: Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel Note: First 15 Minutes of the Game. I really enjoy playing it since it does remind me a lot of Panemonium which i did love on my PSX.
Thanks again for the feedback everyone! There are a few reviews popping up that you might be interested in reading if you are thinking of buying: iFanZine.com (Rating: 5.0/5.0): No interface? No problem! After learning how limited the player’s input options are in the Edis Brothers’ “Diversion,” I went in determined to loathe it. Instead, after a few hours leaping, sliding, shimmying, gliding and climbing through its levels, I came out on the other side a firm believer. Behold the running game to end all running games! - Read More >> AppSmile.com (Rating: 4.5/5.0): Diversion, Ezone’s 3D side-scrolling platformer, was just released and is available from the app store. Drawing some inspiration from Mirror’s Edge and giving gamers an early look at the environment of the upcoming Hoverworld, Diversion provides a startling amount of content in a crazy fun little package. - Read More >> Sanuku - Thanks for making the gameplay video! Gabrien - The whole Universal issue is a very tricky one, and something we have given a lot of thought to. We decided to make two different versions and price them so that you can have both versions for a total of $3. Right now you can get 'Diversion' (for iPhone/iPod Touch) for US$0.99 and the iPad version 'Diversion HD' for US$1.99 - or a total of US$2.98. Compare this to other Universal games (like Bumpy Road for US$2.99) and it works out to be about the same. Also, not everyone has an iPad. Why should someone who has an iPod Touch or iPhone pay an extra $2 for iPad compatibility they don't need? From a developer's point of view there are the Top 100 charts to think about. We are a small two man developer team in Perth, Australia and getting visibility in this sea of apps isn't easy. Our only chance is to get on the Top 100 charts. (Heck, we can't even get the TA boys to get off their iCades and review our game!) The Top 100 charts are based on volume - the more sales you make, the higher up the charts you will appear. Making one Universal app means you cut your potential sales (and chart position) in half. I am convinced that if Bumpy Road was US$0.99 instead of being #56 it would be the #1 iPhone app and the HD/iPad version for $1.99 would be the #1 iPad app (it deserves to be!). eugekava - Like any graphically intensive 3D game, if you have an older device you will get better performance after a restart to clear memory
Hey! Did you know that we've even got a MAC version of DIVERSION available in the Mac App Store. Here's some screenshots from the Mac version:
Pretty much my favorite purchase of last night's releases. Very fun! There is a little lag on my iPod Touch 4, but nothing to really take away from the actual gameplay. Maybe consider making it run more smoothly in a future update though. Congrats on the New & Noteworthy spot!
Yes, there is a little lag on my iPod touch 4 as well but it does not take away from awesome gameplay. One thing that does get annoying is the robot's voice. I wish I could turn it off.
Game Impressions For the devs: A hearty thank you for the promotional code. I tried hard to enjoy this game (on an iPhone 4) but unfortunately, can't say much good about it. The only strong thing the game has going are the visuals but, they aren't accompanied by a smooth frame-rate when I tried it out. I personally found the characters unattractive to play as and the general gameplay pretty bland - not a fan of the jumping animation either, I dunno. It feels like there are other games out there which offer the same thing with flat, 2-dimensional visuals, and manage to do a much better job with with the gameplay because that's where their focus is: the game, not the graphics. I don't mean to jump to any assumptions but rather, am just typing out how I feel about the game. I couldn't bear to play past the first 10 stages before coming here, typing this out and probably not playing the game again in the future. To the devs: sorry if I am being too critical but i'm sure you would rather appreciate honest feedback rather than made-up fluff. A bit of fluidity in animation and frame-rate, as well as an increase in gameplay speed might help balance things. I feel the game needs to be more engaging and interesting in general - it feels as of now there's no incentive for me too play. Perhaps i'm not alone in the way I feel as well, judging from the few and far replies this thread has garnered since the game's launch. If you'd like to see how my thoughts range on another game of a very similar genre just recently released, please jump to my review of Demolition Dash HD (link in sig).
Postings on the Demolition Dash thread (as of this post): 24. Posts on this thread: 32, most of which have been very positive. In general, simpler games like this one (or DD) tend to get "few and far" replies unless there is something controversial about them -- usually price. As to Diversion itself, it's been my go-to title when I have a only a few minutes to spare. It seems a bit straightforward at first (during the selfsame 10 levels you played), but then every level starts to bring in new obstacles and complications that keep things interesting and challenging. Unlike most endless runner game, it plays more like a real platformer and less like just a reaction game, with multiple paths, interactive elements, and even moments where you can stop and deal with a timing-based obstacle. I will try Demolition Dash per your recommendation, though.
Thanks again for the feedback everyone! To people with frame rate issues (try restarting your device). 3rd and 4th generation devices give the best frame rates. Some people have referred to the occasional lag - which we are definitely looking into and trying to get onto To the people who don't like the look of the game, well... ... um... I guess we can't really help you there... as to whether or not you like the "look" is really a subjective thing. You can't please everyone. As for the people who have commented about how the first few levels are too simple... well... that's a tricky one. We've tested this game with people of all ages and gaming abilities... and what we found was that it was too hard too soon for most people. And we didn't want to scare off the casual gamers. That's not to say that more hard-core gamers were ignored... we just figured that there is enough harder levels later in the game to satisfy everyone. We even considered making the first few easier levels into tutorial levels, but tutorial levels are either ignored or add confusion to the flow of the game. Even so, we will further look into how to "fix" this issue. Again... thanks for the feedback everyone. We'll be taking everything everyone has said into consideration when we update the game with more content! Oh... and some people have voiced their opinion about the sound of my voice in the game. Well, I'm a robot and that's the voice my creators chose to give me. I've tried talking to my creators about the subject of my voice, but for some reason they keep turning down my voice volume every time I mention it... very odd! I think it's just so they can concentrate on their work. Humans, I don't think I will ever understand them!
I have to say this game has become one of my newest addictions! My favorite part is the progression of how you learn the best practices or how to use the obstacles in the level. The game is extremely well done. My only complaint is that it temporarily freezes before a jump. Also, it will sometimes exit the game after I've beaten a level, however, the load time is quick so I really don't mind.
I've rebooted quite a bit since installing the game. bluecomb84 - you're on a 2nd gen right? The game says it's recommended for 3rd-4th gens. Glad it still plays though! I agree that the game gets more challenging the more levels you play.
Keep the excellent feedback coming!! As Garbot1 mentioned we are working on the first update right now, so if you have anything you'd like to see added/changed/tweaked to help improve the game we'd love to hear it now - Cheers!
I am really enjoying this, love the art direction, makes me nostalgic for my n64! I also love the simple gameplay, take all the fluff away from mirror's edge(one of my favorites), and just give us great level design. Makes most endless runners feel overpriced. I dont like the splash screens/still images thrown over loads though, a bit more polish could really take the game to another level.
Well, I like the game its has good graphics and the game does get more challenging as you go on. I'm playing on a 4th gen and Im also having problems with the game slowing down. Also my biggest issue with the game is the voices and the horrible robot thing saying "Are you ready for Diversion". Omg. It really makes me not want to play. There really needs to be an option to turn that off or change it PLEASE!!! So what I do is turn the volume off so I can play.
Nice game. Also seeing some lag on my iPhone 4. Not too bad but it's there. Really needs Game Center. Achievements would make it more replayable going for the stars for each level...
I am using 4th gen ipod touch. I get lag from time to time especially before some jumps. Smooth otherwise. Regarding the voice - it crackles a bit when it says "have another try" or something like that afer you fall. Also if you retry the same level a few times constant comments from the robot become annoying. I didn't mean to insult your voice or your creator. Its just when you try the same level 7th or 8th time and fall down because you did not pick up that flying powerup, listening to robot's encouraging comments makes me want to blow him up. May be its just me.
