Hey fellow nerds! Disney bought Lucasfilm. Star Wars: Episode 7 due out in 2015, followed by two more SW movies. I think I heard millions of nerd voices suddenly cry out in terror and then were suddenly silenced.
Hopefully they follow the Thrawn trilogy. If you care to read any Star Wars books, read these three - they take place shortly after Return of the Jedi, are solid stories with no Jar Jar type characters, and would make a perfect Ep7-9.
Some things are meant to end.. Star Wars being one of them. I have no doubt Disney will produce a fantastic star wars film.. But it's just that some things are better left at rest..
Just read about this and was absolutely stunned that Lucas would sell out. After so many years of him being so protective of the Star Wars license and him even flippling off fans with his "changes" to early films, I thought I'd never see the day when he'd do this. I don't know what to think. We all know that Lucas screwed the prequels (save "Revenge of the Sith", which was good, but still not up to the original trilogy). There were still supposed to be three more films to follow the entire plans for nine films. Who knows? Maybe Disney could do a better job. I've always wanted all nine films to be done. Still remember my parents taking me to see the original "Star Wars" on opening day when I was 8. Then when the prequels hit, disappointment hit. So personally, I'm not an entire Star Wars geek (of course, I do have them on Blu-Ray) and I'm sure others will be outraged by the Disney takeover. But I don't think they could do any worse than Lucas himself did on the prequels.
I will watch them as long as there are no stupid Jar Jar Binks type characters, and if they don't make the main character into a princess or something, and please don't make it into a musical or something...
I remember when my parents took me, I was 5. They said I had never sat still that long before... When Ep1 came out, I took them to see it. In the 'family' context it sat pretty well. I still think the audio of Ep1 was fan-damned-tastic, just try to ignore the kid and Jar Jar as best you can. <rant>Best scene was from the extras, Anakin in the pod racer with wind blowing on him, "I can't hear you! I can't hear you!" You can just hear the frustration in his voice and that's exactly how I would feel saying "I wish I couldn't hear you! Get out of my damned movie!"</rant>
By all means this is a very GOOD thing for Star Wars. It needs new life breathed into it from someone who isn't Lucas. I see nothing but positive things coming from this, and at the very least hopefully we will get the real original movies remastered and released on BD
Dont agree with that. Problem is many of us 'oldies' seem to think Star Wars is 'ours'. When the prequels came out we all moaned, but the new generation of younger fans lapped it up, they loved the prequels, the toys, Clone Wars etc, theyre the new set of fans, not us oldies. I'm glad Star Wars is big big talk yet again, hope they dont go crazy and ruin lots of EU storylines but either way star wars 7-9 sounds brilliant. BUT did you read the news about the games ? They said about moving Star Wars from console to mobile/social devices. Social devices sounds crap but imagine some great iOS star wars games (finally) As Mirkwood says i dont see anything but positive stuff, wish people would stop moaning. If you want to stick your head in the sand and pretend theres only 3 star wars films ever then do that ! For the rest of us i cant wait for the hype/first images of the films etc, should be great BUT i hope Disney dont go into overkill, they mentioned after star wars 7-9 a new film every few years, that seems a bit OTT even to a huge Star Wars fan like myself. More doesnt always mean better. But roll on star wars 7-9 ! (And star wars apps)
I agree, but not with this. I'm fine with Star Wars franchise continuing. But Angry Birds should end...
