Here's a little preview of the races now in progress for those interested. Feel free to ask any details about what's been going on and we'll try and answer the best we can. Sorry for any crappy photo editing, I have no computer, just a busted 3GS, lol. Enjoy! Round and Round - Lap 2 1-Arn 2-Selector 3-Indy 4-Mcevoy Slip N Slide - Lap 3 1-Selector 2-Arn 3-Indy 4-Mcevoy I in the Sky - Lap 2 1-Arn 2-Indy 3-Selector 4-Mcevoy Hopper - Lap 2 1-Indy 2-Selector 3-Arn 4-Mcevoy These races have been some of the biggest dogfights I've ever played in! There's shoving matches going on, jumping all over the place and anything you can think of!!! What a SOLID competition!!!
Thanks Indy for taking the time to do this, sounds like a real battle! Looks like you have a decent lead on Hopper! Way to go!
Actually, the lead on hopper changed hands many times, and I think I've held it more often than anyone. But I choked on the unwalled straightaway - missed a simple straight shot - and now it looks like what would have been a first place for me on that race will be a third.
Well, were all finished up! Gospvg, would you rather me just post the results here or send them to you somehow?
Ok while we wait, I had to brag about this shot on 'I in the Sky', lol. Arn, as you can tell, has one final shot for the win. I'm stuck in a bad spot with the possibility of finishing 3rd. Wait a minute, what's this? Can I make that? What do we have to lose, let's do it! Boing!!! # Wheeeeee!!! *SNAP* Oh NO he Di'int!!! *SNAP* ...boom... Sorry Arn 'ol buddy. =) I've made this shot several times before but NEVER from that close to the wall. Shocked myself a little that it even worked! That was fun.
That was sick, is what it was. Do you continually tap the button, then swipe? Good job, and FTW at that!
LoL, nah, I just timed it right. I almost swiped then tap simultaneously. Like I said, I really didn't expect it to work being that close to the wall but it did!
Going from the semis to the finals in this tournament was like going from junior varsity ball to the Super Bowl. I took some silly risks and a bad portion of them failed, but the competition was so fierce that to not take said risks would have ensured dismal failure. Good match, guys. I may not have won the tournament, but I won a greater prize - I now have reliable high-quality high-turn-frequency opponents as long as you keep on hitting that 'rematch' button!
I will do a final results post now - well done guys on finishing the final round so quickly http://gospvg.blogspot.com/2011/11/custom-disc-drivin-final-round_03.html
Nice jump, Indy. I almost never mess with the jump: it burns me more often than not. I should really put in the practice time with it though.
Man, in that round, if you didn't jump, you were gettin left behind! I had some rather unsuccessful leaps that left me hangin in the back. Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't. =)
Congrats arn! On a related note, I won my 1,000th game today. I'd probably have more wins if I didn't play arn on a regular basis.
I wonder how many players have reached 1000 wins. I know a co-worker of mine has. I seldom play random onlines (usually if I do it's because my toddler son has somehow gotten hold of one of my iDevices and started a match for me, and usually done a short weak sideways shot to start me off!), and I usually play 4p with my co-workers including that 1000-winner so I win maybe ~30% of those. The last tournament I was in before this one (run by a small group on videogamegeek.com ) ran an interesting concept - partnership play. Each race in the tournament was a 4-player race in which 2 players were allied, and the team of whichever disc won the race was the winning team. This led to some very interesting defensive/destructive play as not all players were strictly playing for their own best progress, but situationally were working to impede the opposition to allow their own partner to break away. Food for though for any further TA tournaments to consider a format like that.
I'm actually in a couple of races where we're doing exactly that; two Americans against two Germans and we're playing for bragging rights. I have no idea how long this series will extend but we are having an incredible amount of fun. A little bit of trash talking, a little bit of everything, it's a blast.
I haven't played any random online matches in months. I got fed up with random onlines because of the lack of commitment on the random's part. I've been playing with the same core group for a long time, and every once in a while someone who is playing one of those players challenges me. That's a very cool idea. I'd be up for that.
