I found with the previous version, it was getting stuttery and eventually I started getting balck screen crashes However, rebooting the device brought it back to buttery smoothness! So maybe give that a try. I have to say, I really appreciate the new tracks and all, but the new skin... bleurgh. Feels like a 90's budget media player now
Devs if you're out there, this new GUI in the update is phenomenal. I am a big fan. I haven't noticed any issues yet either with it. Keep up the good work.
I'm in the not liking the new gui camp I'm affraid. Also some of my games have been very jerky, I assumed it was because I am recently jailbroken but if others are having problems too?
I'm not sure about the new UI either. For one thing it takes up more space. And it's sooo shiny. It would be nice if there were some skin choices, but I can live with it, and would rather the effort was put into more tracks and server improvements - I haven't seen yet if the update rate is better or not. Is it? No jerkiness for me yet and I am jailbroken. Running the 4.3.1 jailbreak too. iPhone 4. I only just played one turn in about 6 games, so I haven't played with the new version extensively yet. Those of you having such an issue might try rebooting the phone.
On the fence about the GUI as well. Haven't played the new tracks yet, but would still REALLY like to see full on badge support. Games by 10-year olds manage to implement it, not sure why this game cannot.
I've mailed the developers asking them to include the old UI as an option. The new UI is fascinating. It flies in the face of almost all design principles, and is the most horrendous UI I've yet to come across in ANY computer game. Ever. The appearance of the UI aside, I find it strange that the devs would invest time into redesigning the UI for a reasonably new game, a game where the previous UI was, if not beautiful nor unique, at least smooth and practical. After all, there is SO much that could be done to make Disc Drivin' even better, especially in online games. Leaderboards for online matches, ELO ratings, lobbies with chat, etc, all things which create a community around the game, and offer incentive to play the game competitively (for which it is very well suited).
What I find strange is that they've spent time on the ui but still don't let you swap the 2 bottom buttons around. Being right handed I guess all other right handers swipe with their right hand forefinger, this means the powerup activate button is under your right hand so you have to reach accross with your left hand thumb to activate it. Not a good design choice. Sorry to sound ungrateful, I'm loving the new tracks. Things I still want to see; notification badges some kind of league/gp mode ( single race after single race is getting a bit stale with no end goal and no stats ) repostion buttons more varied tracks ( the new tracks are very welcome but they aren't really that different to the old tracks, I'm thinking different obstacles, moving obstacles, changes in elevation, different surfaces, conveyor belts etc). That should keep the devs busy for a while!
I agree about swapping the button placement. I'd like to be able to swipe with my right and tap the button with my left. Should be an option for that. Still it's a great game.
I have found three new bugs. One is a potentially infinite loop on Canyon Jump (in my . A booster that is theoretically set up to feed you onto another booster - if you catch it right at the egde, though, you miss the second booster and bounce off a perpendicular wall right back onto the same booster again... and again... and again. I bounced 142 times - almost two minutes - before I edged over enough to catch the other booster and get out of the loop. I know I could have broken the loop with powerups, but in terms of video memory and length-of-move I fear this could cause server or memory issues (among other issues, see #2) (grainy Zapruter-ish) Video of #1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CyyNki6tH40 Two: right after that shot, the next player's shot was taken by the system 'automatically'. He didn't do anything and the computer shot him in a seemingly random direction (primarily backwards, so it wouldn't even have been a legal accidental swipe given that the player never rotated the camera and such a backwards swipe would be illegal). Three: the "when network disconnect causes failure to send a move, upon reconnect it forgets any powerups that were used and only sends the move without powerup" bug - that was fixed in a prior release - is BACK. It's regressed.
Thanks thatmarkguy, we've seen the loop issue with Canyon Jump. It'll be fixed in the next update. Sorry about that one slipping past us. We haven't seen the other issues you mentioned, but we'll keep a lookout for them. If you see them again, I'm all ears.
Love the game. Love the new tracks. I hope the next update can include a manual, in-game refresh option. I'd also like to see the discs highlighted in some way in the overhead view. And of course, more new tracks would be welcome!
Great update, great new tracks! Thanks. No jerkiness (iPhone 4, not jailbroken). But please add push badges that work all the time (not just after entering the game) See Words With Friends. (And tapping the top-bar to scroll the list to the top would be great, like other iPhone lists. No biggie though.) Without the badges, you have no reminder of the incoming turns you did not have time to respond to. That has to be slowing games down a lot, as all players wait on each other, and nobody remembers it’s their own turn.
I'm loving this game, and so is everyone at my work. We've all upgraded to the paid version to support you. Thanks for getting on fixing the infinite loop issue so fast. The next thing that we ALL want fixed is the push notifications. See HeyTell (a great app). Literally, the second you send a message a push notification hit the other person's phone and a badge appears. If it's a a lack of equipment issue, talk to me. I manage an Apple reseller and we're huge fans of this game. I'd love to help any way I can. Any thoughts of adding any elevation to the tracks. Uphills or downhills? Just curious. Not to get all crazy like Jet Car Stunts, but simple downhills and uphills would add a ton!
I continue to enjoy the heck out of the game. Me and three other friends constantly have several games playing. Individual matchups, 3 players, 4 players, etc. I had the free regular version, but updated to the paid HD version as soon as it became available. The big features I'm still looking out for: Option to refresh games list, rather than blindly clicking and/or exiting and re-entering game to get an update Free-Roam camera in or to detach yourself from your disc, and "crawl" around the maps. Multiple Power-up boxes. Cycling boxes can be very time consuming and annoying. Give us two boxes to set powerups in. That way we can say, "I may need the brakes here...but if I get past that spot, I will use turbo" without having to quickly find each option. Lots of screen real estate available for this sort of thing, especially considering the iPad space. Better Push badges like mentioned above. Some other suggestions: Other camera options. Like an overhead view that is not quite as zoomed out as the whole map view. Moving obstacles. Time your move right, or the obstacle that goes back and forth will block your flick. Overall, I'm enjoying the new maps. Keep up the great work!
One thing I'd like in this and in the iPad version, is for the overview to have labels showing the player names. This could be a toggle on the iPhone, perhaps, but on the iPad they can probably be on there all the time. This would make the overview so much more useful. And of course the usual request for badging and improvements to updating, especially in-game, so we can play live games more quickly/easily.
As tweeted to you guys, the new UI, takes up too much space, stops me seeing down the track near top of screen and the silver lap lights blend with the silver UI too much, the red traffic lights were so much easier to see. Agree with others, love the new tracks but two features I think need to be in there sooner are getting those buttons swapped over at the bottom and also being able to activate the powerup so that it fires as soon as you swipe, it's near impossible to swipe and perform a quick jump or go invisible when close to objects or walls. Keep up the good work though!
Slow multiplayer I am admittedly a Carcassonne addict, and after using that app for so long with so many games per day/week, Disc Drivin' seems very sluggish. Once you make a move, it takes at least a minute or two till someone else makes a move even in they are in the app. You also can't tell if your opponent is in the app watching your game. It would be nice to have quick timed games like carcassone. I think the gameplay is definitely there. Increase the multiplayer aspects of it and you've easily got a winner!
This may have been mentioned already, but there is a bug with using the speed boost. If you use it immediately as your disc stops and right before your turn ends, it will cause your disc to go flying off in a random direction. It has caused me to go straight backwards as well as sideways. Don't know if it affects anything else. This happens because on some rare occasions your meter fills up at the instant your disc stops moving, causing the bug.
