An interesting note is that in the game this is based on (Carabande/Pitchcar), if your shot causes other players' disc(s) to leave the track, not only are their disc(s) put back where they started... YOUR disc is put back to where it started the turn and your turn ends. It's already a major move towards combattive play to have a knockoff not only suffer no penalty, but to actually have rewards for it (power-up loss for the opponent, a power gain for the hitter) - that has already drastically changed a fundamental of the game, and I've suggested to Pixelocity that they enable an option to have a race played by those rules.
Since we've had requests for making the knockoff benefits both bigger and smaller, hopefully we're hitting a good balance. Prab, we're hoping to make a submission to Apple by tomorrow. If that goes according to plan, I'll be back to let everyone what's coming!
Great, can't wait. I hope it contains; 1) new tracks 2) new modes of play 3) notification badges ...anything less then I'm afraid I'm gonna have to play even more of this game while I wait for the next release.
Hey everyone, just in time for the iPad 2, we're excited to announce Disc Drivin' HD, a native iPad version of Disc Drivin'! It looks and plays great on the iPad and we can't wait for you guys to see it. We submitted it today, so we expect it to be released in the next week or so. Disc Drivin' HD is a custom, iPad-only app and is expected to launch for $2.99, the same price as the iPhone version. With the release of Disc Drivin' HD, we're already working on the next update for all versions of Disc Drivin'.
So is this the update you were talking about??? Or did you submit some changes to the original disc drivin as well??? I think we will all be highly disappointed if there aren't any significant upgrades in the very NEAR future. I've seen so many great ideas on this thread and i would love to start seeing some changes. We don't need some massive update once a year. I would love to see some small updates every month or so. Either way... I have a blast with the game every day... I've seen some pretty amazing things happen. Keep us updated please and some hints of some upcoming changes would be appreciated. give us something to look forward to...
A native iPad version was one of our most common requests, it took a fair amount of work, and I think everyone will really like it. So, yes, this is a big update for us. However we do have new stuff for all versions coming, and it will be relatively soon.
Does the new iPad app support multiplay with the iPhone app? What features does the iPad app have that are not present in the iPhone app? I'm disappointed you chose to go with a separate rather than a universal app, but I wish you luck with the new release.
iPad At the risk of piling on a great game, I don't get the iPad implementation. For me the greatness of DD is the quick turns. Being able to take a minute break and rip off a move or two during my day wherever I happen to be. There are plenty of games that shine on the iPad environment, but I think DD fits perfectly into the iPhone. For me, 99% of my iPad usage is at home, while 99% of my DD play is while out of the house. It's the perfect game to play on the fly during the day. But, if it truly was the biggest request then perhaps I'm nowhere near the average player of the game. I have to admit to some disappointment though as the tease of the upcoming update was revealed to be this. While I still enjoy the game it is growing a bit stale with sameness. I no longer have a full slate of games going and probably only have 10 or less currently in progress. I was really hoping to instill some life back into the game with new tracks at the very least. Hopefully in the near future.
fiveolddogs, yes the iPad version uses your same account, so you can play all of your existing games versus iPhone players. Trocergian and dizzyjw, I'm sorry you're disappointed in the iPad announce. We know that it may not be for 100% of our audience even though there has been a lot of interest and requests for it. Don't worry though, we've got more stuff in the works for all versions.
You didn't mention what new features the iPad app has that the iPhone app doesn't. Is it simply an upscale of the graphics?
I'm not crazy about having to pay again in order to get a native iPad version, but I'll probably pay the tax anyway.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not at all disappointed in the iPad announcement. I won't be buying it since i have it on my i phone but i am happy to see you expanding the game to the ipad. I guess i just felt mislead with the whole update announcement. You got my hopes up and then you said iPad i guess i just assumed that it would be universal. Any hints on future plans would still be appreciated...
I'm about to buy my first ipad and I'm excited to fill it with great games, I'm a huge DD fan however I'm not seeing the logic behind releasing an ipad specific version if it is exactly the same game. If it was universal I would fire it up on my ipad or iphone depending on where I was but as it seems to be exactly the same game I can't see me paying for it again. The formula should be same game=universal, added extras=ipad specific.
Yes, the iPad version has the same feature set at the iPhone version currently, though they may diverge in the future. This is one of the reasons for making it a separate app. We do have more updates for all versions coming, and we have been working on other things while we prepare the iPad version. Though I'm a bit reluctant to say much about it at this point as it seems my earlier teases haven't gone over well. I'm still learning the right amount of information to share, so thanks for your patience.
No problem, I love the game its just that I don't know why anyone would buy the same game twice, if its the same make it universal, if you want paying again add something the iphone version doesn't have. Just my opinion.
So many developers fail to realize this, and many times it comes back to haunt them. The developers of the iOS version of Reiner Knizia's Through the Desert, for example, are having a heck of a time trying to undo their earlier decision not to go with a universal app at the onset.
As long as each version (regular, free, hd, hd free?) plays properly with the others, I have no problem with it not being universal, especially when I got the game on sale anyway. Looking forward to some crispy graphics. Anti-aliasing on the iPad 2? Judging from the Infinity Blade update it appears to be a free bonus for devs.
I have to say I am really upset this game hasn't received an update yet. I am still unable to quit matches so I can play new games because whoever I was playing stopped playing the game. I am at max games of 20 and this is so stupid. I paid a dollar to support this game, I brag to everyone to get it but with such slow attention to details I don't know if I can recommend this game anymore.
How old are your games JMarceLF? If you have random opponent games longer than 5 days since the last turn, or custom opponent games longer than 8 days, you can select those games to complete the auto-resign process and move them to the completed list.
I'd suggest that in the next update you make it so that if a game is more then 8 days old, DD will ask if you want to move to the completed list, without having to go into the game first. I think a lot of people probably don't realize that you have to do that in order to get it to end. They just see it staring at them, annoyingly, in the list of games. Plus, just take the 20 game limit away. Why 20 anyway? Why not 50000?
