I went ahead and bought it - glad I could finally pay for all the hours this game gave me back in the day. So far I am having a blast again - played for a couple hours during slow period at work yesterday. Thanks for taking the time to revisit and port this game to the app store Seth I am eagerly awaiting the update with the dMods - and would love to finally see the opening video (even as an easter egg). Are you planning on porting your other games to the app store?
The "Load" menu access the Save Machine saves. That's the "official" save method of the game - but I knew this wasn't going to cut it on a mobile "play for 30 secs at a time" situation, so that's why I added the "save/load state anywhere" feature - it's separate, and just built on-top of what is there. In addition to that, the automatic "save state on shutdown and restore on load" is also separate, so you don't have to worry about overwriting a save state you made yourself using the "Quick save" feature. You are out of luck, I agree, Dink could really use this. At the time I designed this (12 years ago?) RPG's got away with being a lot less user friendly in that way. I've passed this on to the artist, he's going to try to come up with something! I chose the logo because I was hoping it would sort of resonate with those who had played Dink in the past, PC versions have been downloaded something like 5 million times. This is actually for compatibility with DMOD support, the main game doesn't need it so I could have removed that. But soon I will start packing add-on quests and there is a chance that some of them want you to press a key on a keyboard somewhere. The keyboard is sort of the emergency way to get around that. You have good taste.
Is there a bug with the bow weapon? I cannot seem to shot an arrow at all when I have the bow equipped.
Yes there is bug with the bow weapons. <bad programmer, slaps self> Although please try "zoomed in view mode", does it work for you there? (Tap the top of the screen to toggle that mode.. in that mode, the "attack" button is floating instead of built into the status bar at the bottom and using different code) Also, be sure to "hold down" the icon while firing to pull back the string. I've submitted an update with this fixed four days ago, was sort of hoping nobody would get that far... The update won't screw up any saved games/quick saves.
Ah... good to know. I bought the bow last night and indeed, couldn't get it to work. Found out that I could get special training for bowmanship (for 1,500 more gold pieces) and thought if this was necessary to get the bow to work it was a bit of a rip off. Glad to hear I was mistaken and that a fix is coming soon. FWIW I never heard of Dink before reading this thread. Thanks Seth for bringing the game to iDevices. Have checked out your site and find your novashell system interesting. EDIT: Just want to confirm that the bow does work in full screen mode (on the iPad at least) as you mentioned above.
Using the bow in zoomed-in mode does indeed work. Hoping nobody would get that far? I guess you can see some of us are enjoying the gameplay!
Oops, I meant to say "hoping nobody gets that far until the Apple approved the update"... no such luck! Hopefully it will happen soon.
I'm still playing this game and recommend it. Yes, the graphics are simple and 'old school' but they are also very effective. Yes there is humor, puzzles, and gory duck bashing but there is also something more going on here. Something hard to define but very, very compelling. Looking forward to the updates with the classic 'dink mods'.
this is my first post, i've been reading this site for a while now and it's been a great source of info about igames for me. this is pretty good so far, i'm about an hour in or so. it's actually pretty funny too. the d-pad actually works very well, i've been frustrated with igames of late with their shoddy dpads, this one is very responsive and few errors, i have no problem controlling...dink. i bet it gets pretty crazy later in the game, hopefully down the line here i'll get some more time to get further. and yeah, pretty gory, in a great way.
Dink Smallwood HD V1.1 has gone live in the appstore, fixes bug with controlling the bow weapons! V1.2 with some new adventures (DMOD's) should be released later this month.
Hi, just wanted to say I'm enjoying this game, discovered it on the itunes store on ipad today by accident, which was great as I was looking for new RPG having just finished Undercroft. I know it hasn't had much love this far in the thread but I'm using the 'drag anywhere' controls and I really like them, preferring them to the dpad. I always find my finger slides off virtual dpads and the drag anywhere controls are basically a dpad centered wherever I first touch the screen so I can never miss it!
i really like this game, but also frustrated. I finally reached level 3, but can only kill those big bugs.. everything else is killing me. My attach=6 Def=0 and magic=2. Don't know if Def=0 has something to do with it.. Seems that when you fighting with my fists and you reach a new level but your still fighting... because of pushing the button, it autom levels up your attack. but what else can I do? I can't buy any weapons.. only have 300 coins
Yep, I believe some of the DMODS are as long or longer as the main quests. You're in a tough part of the game - the key is to keep exploring, you'd be surprised at the potions and money lying around. Also, if you see any strange tree arrangements, be sure to set the trees on fire! NOTE: I've submitted V1.2 which includes three DMODS and a new "auto save" feature Oct 14th, so hopefully that will be available any day now.
ok I got further in the game. I did ran into a bug.... I got stuck at the screen where you have the corner of the castle at the right top, and you move to the screen down, and right back up. you end stuck on that spot. had to reload a save game.
I had no idea RTSoft was behind this game! I still play dungeon scroll so dink swallwood is going on my wishlist immediately
I need some help.. I can't remember / find the place where a guy was trapped in a dungeon(?) I needed a spell to open something up. I went through the map, wherever I can go, but I can't find it... Anyone knows what I mean?
