Thank you for the code!!! Already downloaded and made throu the tutorial. It's really slick and seems tons of fun. I'll play a real match soon and I'll post some impressions. Already loving the music btw.
WOW!!! I never immagined soccer this fun!!! Played some of the first real matches, unlocked tons of new players and tried several combinations of teams. It's fast, slick and really fun!!! Congrats, really!!! While luck has a certain component (especially when you're about to score a goal) there is really some thinking about how to make the perfect team, switching players back and forth. I was surprised at how many times the protagonist of the sweepstakes saved my team allowing to re-roll. Thumbs up!!! BTW....is it me or this game screams for asynchronous mutlipkayer? Now excuse me, I have a match to win!!!
Finally got a chance to play it - it's a fun little dice game with a very cute interface! Nutshell is that each team has three players, each represented by a die. Each roll takes ~1 minute of game time, highest roll either gets the ball or advances. Doubles, and all sorts of special effects occur which alter this. A large part of the game will be recruiting and managing players. Overall this one is a winner if you like light dice/board games and/or Soccer. If I could rate it I'd give it 5 stars in iTunes easy. (And quite frankly, if I hadn't gotten a code I'd have bought it and been plenty happy with the purchase.)
The game at first appear so simplistic it might catch you off guard. At the core of the gameplay is simply rolling a special 6 sided die for each player (while it has 6 sides, the numbers and symbols that appear on it are based on that player) for all players in that section of the field. Which ever side has the highest total will either gain possession of the ball from the opposition, or if they already have the ball, will move it upfield. Where this actually gets kind of deep, however, is that almost every player has some special ability that can allow them to re-roll a die, deduct a point from one of their opponent's die, or any number of other clever twists. The key to the game is creating a team that has abilities that compliment each other well (like say one of your team players has a really nifty effect if he rolls a '3' and another one of your team players can often allow a re-roll...if you stick these two guys in the same section of the field, you can use the second guy's re-roll ability if the first player didn't naturally roll a '3'). The game has IAPs but, so far, they seem to be entirely optional and really only serve as a means to speed up the game's natural unlocking process (you can earn the achievement needed in the game to unlock this player or simply pay real money to buy them directly). It is a great game BUT, at least on my iPod 4G (iOS 4.3.4), seems to crash EVERY TIME I unlock some in-game achievement (which was really a pisser as I was kicking one team's ass 3-0 when suddenly I was awarded the "Hattrick Award" and then dumped back to the palmtop with all progress in that specific game lost (perhaps, if nothing else, the game can make a point to automatically save the player's progress before flashing the achievement).
Hey I got the code, but haven't been able to play it because it crashed every time! I hard reset the iPod and it still crashes every time I press training mode. I am using an iPod touch 4g 32gb and a legit developers beta of iOS 5 beta 3. I can't wait to play it though!
Played MUCH more than I was supposed to this night...really well done. When you start the League matches, acquiring and unlocking new players is absolutely MANDATORY to have chances to win (which is cool and kept me glued to the screen for hours)....because you have to maximize the chances of high rolls, aside from the various power ups. I mean...playing against a team wich has high chances of 4 and 5 when you have chances only do 2 or 3 is really semi impossible, relaying only on luck, so there is much progression and thinking before deploying the right winning team. Sometimes it is almost a strategical RPG (with fixedPCs). Really well done!!! BTW...It seems I cannot write a review....is this normal? Is this because the game isn't already out for everyone? Anyway, really a great idea and really well done....I'm sorry to hear other have crash problems...I'm on a iPhone 4 and no problem here (it's slick, fast and light on battery too).
It is a crappy new policy from Apple that those of us receiving promo codes can't write reviews...but there appears to be a minor loophole some others here on the forums have discovered. The iTunes police don't seem to realize you obtained the game via a promo code for about an hour after putting in the code so if you, in the future, get a game via a promo code try to write some initial impressions within that first hour (the only sad part being if you later change your mind or want to modify your review in some I'm not sure how that will work). I've now experienced these Achievement crashes on my iPad 1st Gen as well so I wonder if it is a memory issue since, if I remember correctly, the iPhone 4 has 512M of RAM as opposed to my two devices measly 256M. I just caught, on further reflection, getting guys with consistently better numbers (4s, 5s, 6s) may not always be the best policy IF you have another guy that RELIES on teammates rolling a 1 or 3 to activate their power.
It's really stupid...I got the game in advance, I really like it, and I cannot write it on the AppStore? Thank you for pointing me out this new policy I weren't aware of....rarely I can write a review after only 1 hour, so that is out of the question.
It IS complete BS but I guess Apple's feeble way to fight against the false 5 star reviews crapware artists give themselves with each new release.
Thanks for the great comments guys. We've actually noted the issues with the iPad and the iPod Touch. A patch is already submitted that should clear the memory issues. And yes, multiplayer will be in soon.
Competition Results The character is now named Earnest Mulligan! Gratz to Jailjal and ckoz for the suggestions!!
