A bit off topic, but I guess we finally know what the people in the world of Human Revolution were playing
Screw it. I'm going to head off of here and start playing Human Revolution while I wait for my iOS one to download. Peace out.
Not that I disagree with your opinion in what a review should be (although no matter what the case is I always take them as just one person's opinion). But didn't you mention that Jared is reviewing this and has not played a Deus Ex game before? Ideally, it would be nice on these kind of games to get two reviews - one from a new perspective and one from someone familiar with the series. Regardless of how his game may set a new bar in iOS shooters, I don't think anyone would expect it to be the same as a console experience. But as far as the Deus Ex franchise, it still would be nice to hear a review from both perspectives (if resources allow).
Yeah, I agree. The reason we're having Jared do it is I didn't think there'd be any shortage of people who are really into Deus Ex that are mad that this is an iPhone game. In this case, someone who is solely judging the series based on this specific game almost seems to be an oddly unique spin.
Well I'm playing on iPod touch 5 and after I moved the shoot button down a bit on the right and moved the left shoot button I'm good to go. So far the game is amazing, I think the AI is pretty good ( they've flanked me and take cover) and the controls are really good for a touchscreen device. I'm using the 'joysticks' to move around and I was bumping the shoot button on the right side by accident, that's why I moved it down a bit. But they are responsive. There is a lot going on but so far I haven't had a problem.
To all JAIlBREAKERS. This game is unplayable on any jailbroken device. The game will refuse you to fire :s There goes six bucks....
Dunno about that. The mechanics are indeed very similar but that happens on iOS a lot. Infinity Blade the prominent example. This is a Square Enix, or more specifically Eidos Montreal and ME Infiltrator was developed by Iron Monkeys in Australia (now Firemonkeys, Firemint and Iron Monkeys merger, you know that though I'm sure) for EA. There is definite similarities but those development teams didn't work together and as far as I know its fully developed in house at Eidos so that rules out consulting work. I'd say "inspired by" might be the most appropriate term. They are sort of a logical set up for a stealth or cover based system. I enjoyed the ME Infiltrator mechanics myself despite many others not liking them and I think that type of system actually works even better with this game. Can't really explain why just seems more suited to the character of this one. Makes perfect sense. I quite like Jareds reviews anyway. He just seems to review games in a way I can relate to better.
I wish they had implemented swipes to move between cover points like in ME infiltrator, instead of the multiple buttons we see here. would've been nice to have a swipe to change cover pts with the buttons solely for shifting to a different position in the same cover, so that they were distinct enough that they wouldn't be confused. Now that I think about it, ME: I was a really good game. Just too short, with no replay value apart from the bonus mission they added in the update. I wish they had given it some kind of endless score-based mode, like Dead Space got... Back on topic. I highly recommend this, whether you have or haven't played the console. I beat Human Revolution this summer, and I can tell you this just oozes with the personality of the console game. There are a few drawbacks, like the questionable AI (sometimes its really good, sometimes not at all. It might be that I'm playing stealth/nonlethal, because when I'm spotted the AI wastes no time in covering and trying to flank me.) There are other things I wish they had added in from the original, like jumping and the inventory system (which would probably have worked well on a touchscreen...) but all-in-all it runs and looks amazing on my iPad 3, and has all the hacking/stealth/punching-through-walls-to-snap-necks from its console big brother. I'm only a little ways in, so I'm looking forward to exploring more of Panama once I unlock more Augs.
Wow, I would never have guessed that they would specifically put something as blatant as that into the game, I just assumed it was something noticeable when you tried to fire. I wonder why the harsh stance on Jailbreaking - Piracy I assume. Sounds like there is a simple workaround though which is good.
Lots and lots of apps, non game apps, have implemented this. It is primarily a security/anti piracy measure. Some use it for apps that have regional limitations, BBC iplayer is a good example. You can expect it to become more prominent. And jailbreaking does affect device performance as well as security. Its also worth noting that jailbreaking does void your warranty and is specifically unsupported by just about every developer so looking for a refund in the App Store will be problematic.
Thanks for the background, it's been a while since I've paid attention to an iOS game, very insightful.
I have jailbroken many Idevices and have been able to return them at apple stores without any problems...
Shhh... shhh. calm down, panda bear. And a page or two back, someone did say a person claiming to be from Square Enix stated that an iPad 2 compatibility update will be coming eventually. So keep your fingers crossed!
review (nown) : A formal assessment or examination of something. To review a game to me means to take the time to access the quality of the work. Is it bug free? Does it run well on the listed supported platforms? Is the gameplay fun? Fun is relative to the experience of playing the game, but is a key component for me in deciding to buy or not. If it's not fun, does it have some deep philosophical & thought provoking side that would negate requiring that it be fun? There are other issues related to being an iOS game too (download/install size, features like turning music off and using separate music sources, etc), but let's skip over that. Jared's lack of history with the series is something I highly applaud for the review as long as he's a fan of the genre. It's sad when someone reviews a game they have zero interest in or in the specific genre or platform. You'd never want to read my feedback on any rally racing game which is why I typically don't participate in discussions of those games.
My friends do a favor to yourself s and buy this game today. You do not regret it.I am 100% sure that is the best game ever on the App Store!!!
