Thanks! Score achieved by restarting 5 or 6 times. So glad that others are recognizing the restrained brilliance of Desert Golfing. It's such an oddly frustrating/satisfying experience.
everything is perfect I think - the ball movement, the terrain, the sound effects, the fact it looks as if anyone could have made it but that sort of sh*t takes proper style that you can't buy and the fact it panders to noone. Round 2 begins - may try it on my iPad but it just feels so right in my pocket - cannot believe Andy got an average of 1.8 per hole. Phenomenal.
This wonderful symmetry delighted me. I'm never going to see its like again. Too bad that now I'm on Hole 2,220 with 6,834 shots. Yep, things get much tougher after 2,000!
Agree with all that - and cheers! I'm going to give the leaderboard chasing a rest for awhile and begin my long trek across the desert. Here's the first 100 holes of my journey, less a few reflector hiccups: Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel
man - i hardly ever watch videogame videos but that was properly awesome. Holes 48 and 53 made me realise that you just may be human after all, Andy. Only two things could have made it better:- i. It was 1,000 holes. ii. It was in slow motion iii. It was the World Record. Sorry, I meant three things.
Read this thread and had to download this. Just made it past 500 holes and just love the simplicity of it. I'm 1384 shots, hole 507. Probably dreadful, but it's just taking part in the infinite journey and not caring is what makes this game great. Cool video Andy C83. Appreciate the skills as some of them holes take me more than 20 shots.
It's a purer gameplay experience. Less gimmicks: no perspective tricks to deliberately trick/annoy you. No retries: you don't get to replay a hole over and over, so every shot counts.
The two shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence. Desert golfing is a serious goty contender. It is the perfect mobile experience. Golfinity can't even seem to show the player when an angle on the green is coming. Seriously, this is a case of one not even being close to the other.
Well I'm late to the party but just picked this up yesterday and I'm hooked. It's such a simple game but so easy to just pick up anytime you want. Played it at work, while waiting for the train anytime I've got a spare second. Just finished hole 100. brilliant stuff.
From Pocket Tactic's article about the IGF nominations: 'Excellence in Design Honorable Mention, Nuovo Award Finalist Desert Golfing is a 2D golf simulator with molecularly perfect controls and apparently an infinite series of holes. If it ends, nobodys reported back to tell us yet. Its also a one-way trip. No restarts, no save games youre stuck with whatever score you got on the last hole and just have to keep on marching. Its soul-crushing and compelling all at once, just like real golf. Its on iOS and on Android.'
man - was having the round of my life and then hit a 74 (that's a full flipping round in real golf). Still an absolute peach of a game.
Stay strong. I think my highest shot count for a hole is around 130 or so. I'm now on Hole 8484 and will not stop until 10000. May not stop then. Have you reached the point where the colors start gradually changing? I think it's at either 2000 or 3000 and it's totally worth the effort.
Wow - nope. In a completely contrary fashion to what the whole game is about I was hoping for a less than 2,000 over 1,000 holes before I marched onto Infinity, but I may just stick where I am after this 1,000 holes. I was playing it earlier when my eldest had a guitar lesson and sometimes while pitching a shot I really do think, this is absolutely perfect in every way - and then I hit a 34 and lost the moment.
