Man, you're good (and fast)! I've completely restarted in a quest to break into the top 50. I want to play well into the thousands, since a couple AppStore reviews that the graphics change color ever so slightly as you progress. "Hold infinity in the pocket of your shorts, And eternity in Desert Golfing."
This game definitely has some sort of hold on me. Spoiler So, once you pass hole 1,000 does the game keep count of your stroke count for the next 1,000 holes for the Game Center leaderboard? I'm not sure, that's why I started a new game from hole 1 aswell. Love this game.
I'm not sure if it keeps counting or not. It'd be great if it did, or if there were a second leaderboard for highest hole # reached. I was wondering if my good and fast comment would get that response!
ATTN: Andy Did you see this craziness from Pocket Gamer? http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/iPhone/Desert+Golfing/news.asp?c=62108 Golf on.
No I hadn't seen that, cheers Guise. That's bloody incredible. I thought about making some kind of video, but that... Damn.
Another link (for Andy and anyone else interested in the majesty and mystery of Desert Golfing): http://reverseshot.com/series/entry/1927/desert_golfing It's from a highbrow film site, no less. Desert Golfing!! Accept no substitutes! PS Andy, you might also be interested in the GC leaderboards. Ahem.
That was a damned fine read, thanks for sharing it. And kudos on making the top 50! The race to >2000 strokes is on. True dat.
heh, I'm at hole number 100 and something like 310 shots... this might be the most perfect "pick up 'n play" game ever developed. There is no fluff...you can just fire it up and instantly start swinging and then just stop whenever you want. Not even so much as a "play" button or any sort of menu to go through.
I will keep this blunt. This is my pick for game of the year. I have played it more than anything else this year, I think, and I still enjoy it. I never thought I'd be so damn happy to see a cactus or finally push a rock into a hole. I keep buying new game, but I keep playing this one.
It's in my top 3, for sure. I also love how the game has interested/obsessed fellow game designers, on Twitter and elsewhere. That's when you know you've developed/designed something unique. And Andy: I fully expect you to top my score at some point.I can't restart/reinstall anymore—I've done it 5 or 6 times and I might go crazy if I try to do it again to shave off a few strokes. I'm relatively satisfied with less than 2100 and am now in the mindset of seeing how long this magical journey will last. Golf on. Beyond the infinite.
I can see the appeal of this game for some and the amount of 5 star iTunes reviews is astounding. I guess I'm just too goal oriented/narrow minded to let this game absorb me. I also have deleted this game and installed it numerous times to only play until I have a couple of bad holes and lose interest again. I have absolutely loved Mr. Smiths other games but for me this game has been a complete miss. I still have it on my device and hope someday it will consume me. Until then it's more Stickman and Infinite Golf
I have never reinstalled this game. It doesn't feel right to me. My score is my score. For some reason I can't access GC with the game (even inside the GC app). Anyone care to tell me how my score compared to others. Currently I've played 1,235 holes and have a stroke count of 3,576. I should add that I've became so obsessed with this game I have created the following inside my notes apps. You will see my scores per every 100 holes from my games beginning: / 398 732 / 334 996 / 264 1270/ 284 1580/ 310 1868/ 288 2145/ 277 2412/ 267 2708/ 296 2957/ 249 3240/ 283 3488/ 248 The first number is my total stroke count at 100/200/300/etc. the second number is the amount of strokes I used to complete the 100. I've never taken my score too seriously. I play it as I'm falling asleep, and just take silly shots - which increases my average tremendously.
That's odd. From my experience, GC is activated once 1000 holes are completed. A little GC logo should pop up on the bottom right of the screen and the score should be registered in the main GC app.
Yes. The GC logo popped up when I hit the 1000 hole milestone, and stayed there for a few holes. I was not online when I hit this point, however, so I couldn't click it then. When I got home and connected to wifi, it wasn't there. I open the Gamecenter app and I can't find desert golfing in my games list, or even if I search for the game within Gamecenter.
