I'm only on hole 1650-something and I'm already stressing about some of the insane holes people post about on the DG subreddit, and other various places #
Nice! I managed 1903 and decided to give it one more try to improve. Not sure how far I'll get after that; I'll at least play until the colors start changing again. #DG4Life
Any luck? I managed 1825 (3 fewer than AndyC!) and of course forgot to take a pic. I think that's as low as I'll ever manage. Now I can devote some time and attention to other games--looking in your direction, 868-Hack expansion. Anyway, #DG4Life!
Haha, nice one! Been waiting for another reason to start playing again (not that reason has anything to do with it) and now I have 2!
Awesome! Really happy about the impossible holes update, as well. I'm at around Hole 3800 after restarting from Hole 15-thousand something that I think was impossible. Nice to know that Desert Golfing will truly be for life. #DG4Life
Impossible holes? I thought some people actually got to the end of this game. So wouldn't that mean every hole could be completed?
Right back at you, slam! The game is procedurally generated, I think. After Hole 2000, people get different holes in a different order than other players. Some holes turned out to be impossible. So the people that got to Hole 66-thousand-something, where the game seemed to definitively end, were fortunate in the holes they came across.
The controls seem a little off to me since the update. I'm golfing on a 6+ running iOS 10.3.3. There now seems to be a subtle but definite lag to the controls from where/when I touch the screen and when the controls register, making the arrow kick in. In other words, the controls no longer feel 1:1, as if there's a dead zone at work. This makes it harder to judge a shot's power by "feel" and is further complicated by the arrow's new visual lack of balance. Before, the solid white arrow that shows a shot's path could be extended a fairly long way and was balanced by the dotted ghost line behind it. Now, the white arrow only extends so far and the dotted line is extended further. This makes it harder to judge a shot's power visually. There's a chance this change occurred while making the game compatible with all devices (iPhone X, iPads) and that I'm just too used to the old controls. However, I tried the game on my iPad Mini 1 and the lag doesn't occur there. So I'm thinking maybe it's an issue with just Phone +, whether the 6+ specifically or all + models. Can anyone confirm this or has anyone noticed the lag at all, whether on a regular-sized iPhone or + models? I swear I'm not imagining it. Thanks in advance. #DG4Life
Disregard the above. Received a reply from awesome developer explaining the control changes. He will probably tweak them for new update, at least the arrows and dotted lines if not the new dead zone. Golf on.
Must-read for Desert Golfing enthusiasts like myself, though be aware that it removes the mystery/uncertainty around the game's ending: https://waypoint.vice.com/en_us/article/a3nnv4/one-players-21000-hole-quest-to-beat-the-seemingly-endless-desert-golf For those who don't follow the link, here's the gist: Spoiler whatever hole you were on when the "no more impossible holes" update hit in November, you will now have 10000 more holes to golf before hitting the definitive ending point of the game. So if you were on Hole 2100, the game will end around Hole 12100. I'm ambivalent about this. On the one hand, after restarting from Hole 15000-something before the update hit, I've had less drive to obsessively golf in the desert. I'm at around Hole 6000 now, having been around 4000 when the update hit, and know I probably never would have made it to Hole 60000-something. So I like the new circumstances. On the other, the mystery and sense of apprehension about hitting another impossible hole are gone. But this version seems altogether more reasonable and I think was a good compromise for the game designer to make. It also preserves the never-repeatable and truly improbable achievement of the guy (@AldenLudwick) who reached the end state at Hole 65000-something without encountering an impossible hole. And so I say, #DG4Life
