It's made by the same folks who made Panzer Corps. Like that game, it's a port of a PC game that came out a few years back and has similar game play mechanics but set during World War I.
i had only time for the tutorials so far but the new supply system is still confusing me. and:is it not possible to cut supply lines (in the old fashioned way) anymore? That gave me always the most satisfaction.
I think you still can but it doesnt completely immobilize the units ( which could end up being boring). Rather, they can move only one space and have penalties in combat. What has changed i think is the random out of supply units. Rather, you can choose which ones to get supply that turn
Although it's from a familiar studio, I believe the designer is different, which is likely to show up most obviously in things like this. I also prefer the familiar, but I'll monkey with it and give it a fair chance to convince me otherwise.
Yeah, we changed up the supply rules this time. The thematic reasoning is that the desert is just so big that it is really hard to truly cut-off supply. However, being out of supply still slows you down and does not allow Axis units to exit off the board (which is a way to score big points!). - Brad
Hi all. I have been following Shenandoah's work from day 1.... And I haven't purchased a single title yet. I've tried the bulge demo. I liked the presentation, the UI, it clearly was a product of hard labor, of love for the wargaming construction craft. And when I played the demo a couple of times, it didn't seem to click. It felt more like a puzzle to me. If I moved unit X to spot A, then event Y occurred, which resulted in not reaching goal Z in time. So I started a new game where I avoided moving unit X to spot A. And indeed, moving it to B did the trick. I couldn't tell why. I never found the proper logic in that particular move. Before you guys think that I'm an unexperienced strategy- or wargamer, let me just say that I found my love for strategy gaming since Battle Isle, the Perfect General (QQP), Panzer General, the Tiller Games,..., I recently bought Panzer Corps, which I dig a lot,... Now, I want to give Desert Fox a try. I'm just concerned it won't 'click' either. The longevity also concerns me. Only three scenario's? Can you guys convince me somehow that this is a superb game? Thanks in advance, guys
Just read yourself: http://www.pockettactics.com/reviews/review-desert-fox-battle-el-alamein/ Simply great game!
Thank for the reply, Mythbuster. But i actually wrote my message after reading the review at PT I thought it was a master stroke to have a non-wargamer fan write this review, but I want to hear some insight stories from the pros. An after action report would also be nice
Well ... I play Battle Academy and Panzer Corps ... so ... am I a Pro? But I really love this also ... and the AI is really good!
That depends, Mythbuster... Can you win in the games you mentioned? ;-) Seriously, I really want to give it a try. It looks good (which is a bonus, no requirement for me) and the rest of the world seems to like it How about replayabilty once you've finished the 3 scenarios?
1. Yes, I can ... but I am a Pro chess Player with 2.180 ELO (German Elo, not US). 2. Well, can you play chess again after you played a game? Well, the AIs are very different and you can try different ways ... so, I think it is well worth the money.
