Hey guys .. just a quick FYI that the v1.5 patch that includes the crash bug fixes and the non-responsiveness bug at the start of a level is still waiting for review from Apple. While I'm waiting, I've put some work on a new game play element that should be ready for the 1.6 patch. It will allows players to purchase divine blessings from a temple and then invoke those during battle. The blessing provide buffs to all player units for the duration of the battle. This will give players something to do with gold other than just buying equipment. The aim is to have the blessings be quite powerful but still have a chance of failure ... representing the gods simply not listening to the prayer.
Here's a shot of the new Temple. It's a new type of vendor that allows you to buy the divine blessings. I had meant to include this in the original release but with time constraints, I was never able to finish it. It should be in version 1.6 though and should add a new tactical element to the game. I don't know a way to say this that you wont be offended but, well here goes. Wavelight, you have developed a great game and one to be very proud of. The feedback in this forum confirms that. But the constant updates is becoming a problem imho. I want desperately to play the game again but I find myself always waiting for another patch. This is making the game seem to me to be like a beta test. The final game has not yet been released. I don't want to appear ungrateful for all your efforts to address a lot of suggestions in this forum that you have implemented. I still say you are one of the most responsive developers I have seen in the indie gaming business and I commend you for that. But this is a single player game and not a mmorpg. In those type of games we expect weekly updates and skills being nerfed and changed. Please just tell us that the final version is done and is ready for release. We can then all play the game and give you feedback and perhaps you might see fit to release a patch or two over the coming months. I don't presume to speak for the community here. I am just making my own personal feelings. I have been very supportive of your game since the day you released it. I just want Demons Rise to succeed. I hope you understand my concern. cheers.
I'm curious, what are you worried about happening if you play while there's still updates? I think it's become the norm now that games keep evolving / updating. I get more annoyed when I buy a game and there's never any updates. Like they don't care past the first £2.99 Ps don't think the game is in any way Unplayed or unfinished now. Jump in. Enjoy yourself
Probably because every update I see being discussed seems to have either a much needed change or a major added element. I understand that the game is fully playable atm but I'm a sucker for wanting to play the "optimum" version (the main reason why I never buy Early Access games). I gave a slight sigh of relief when Wavelight said that he was finished with the patching for now and was instead focusing on his new project.....but only to then announce more major changes. I know I probably sound totally unreasonable, whining about too many patches when a lot of games get released and then get no updates. I understand and in a way agree. Like I said originally, it's just my own personal take on the game. I've gone on way too long about this. Best I just shutup and enjoy the game #
No worries ... I do appreciate the feedback. I've learned a lot from this release. I think I did release the game without sufficient play testing initially and that was largely due to just not having enough play testers available. I think future games will have more time in play testing but I will invite specific users to the beta playtest as while I had a lot of requests to play test, I actually got very little feedback during the beta from most testers. I've also learned that I have to do a lot more testing before releasing a patch as Apple takes at least two weeks to approve a patch. So if I make some changes, I have to do a much better job of making sure they don't introduce any bugs as I won't be able to fix them for a long time. The good thing is that the version 1.5 patch of Demon's Rise does address all but the most trivial bugs. When Apple do finally approve it, it should be a very good version for you to jump into. If you prefer to wait for patch 1.6, that would be fine too ... patch 1.6 adds the new divine favours, the temple, better tutorials, easier initial patrol levels, the Ogre Mercenary character and more levels. However, all of this is designed to be a safe upgrade to existing player saves so if you start now, when 1.6 hits ... your existing games will be fine and not negatively affected in any way. Therefore, these will just enhance the game and not corrupt an existing save or force you to start a new team. Also, bear in mind that the growing pains with this game won't be in future games. It will all be fixed from day 1 for those games so the benefits of making things work properly now are really huge.
Yeah, it should be pretty good. I'm going to go with standing in the shadows / dark gives a further 10% dodge chance but reduces action point regeneration by 5 points. So it's safer to be in the shadows but being in the dark does make it harder to do more complex actions like spells. I think it's a good trade-off. I think I'll need some kind of option to check the effects of a particular tile / position within the GUI. Similar to how you can click on an enemy character and bring up a stat sheet to show their stats and current effects, I need a way for the user to be able to click on a tile and see what effects it provides to those on it.
Hey gents, the 1.5 version patch that fixes the crash bugs and non-response bugs at the start of a level has entered review by Apple! Typically, once it gets to that stage they approve it within a day. So hopefully it will be out very soon.
1.5 patch it out. Adds the new High wizard character and fixes all major bugs that have been reported. Please let me know if you run into any crashes during gameplay. Those should have been fixed by this patch. If you do run into a crash or any other bug, please let me know the details of what your characters were doing when it happened. Also, the long standing bug where at the start of the level, characters would freeze and not respond to player input has also been fixed by this patch. As with all patch updates, the release removes all visible reviews so if you haven't left a review yet for this verison, please leave a review. It really helps drive sales for premium games. A premium without a few visible reviews really struggle to make sales. Many thanks!
Here's a WIP shot of the new divine blessings GUI screen where players can spend divine favour for blessings from one of the 4 major deities. Going to add some info on each deity when you click on their button on the left. Otherwise, the blessings are arranged linearly ... 7 blessings for each god and the go up in power / cost from left to right. Each can only be used once per battle and once used up, the icon is replaced with a little checkbox. Screen Shot 2015-10-13 at 11.49.00 AM by Rajpreet Dhillon, on Flickr
Anyone tried a party with the new High Wizard? He's probably my favourite mage. No summoning spells but he has a whole bunch of other classic spells. Very close to the traditional D&D wizard. I'll try and post a preview video of him. Also, the good folks at Touch Arcade might be doing another Mobcrush on Demon's Rise this Thursday night / Friday morning US time. Shaun will be looking at the updates added since his review and trying out some of the new characters, I believe.
after 1.5 that fixed most bugs, i finally started playing again. And it feels great. There were no crashes, the camera works great now, and in general the game gives a more polished feel. Personally, i don't like the focus on the dwarves and halflings that have been coming of late, so my party consists of the paladin, the pyromancer, and the "nice girls" : assassin, witch, stormseer and elven archer. Especially the assassin has to be my personal favorite.
That's great ... glad the bugs are finally worked out. The next update will add an Ogre so that's pretty far from a dwarf, I suppose. I think I've got some good ideas on his abilities and play style. He'll be focussed on combat with the emphasis also on intimidating his opponents with his presence and being able to soak up a lot of damage. I've recently also added the ability to click on a tile / position and then bring up a window that shows what effects it has on those that occupy it. So if a tile contains an arcane circle that boosts action points, clicking on that tile and then clicking on the Tile Info button will show those effects.
Here's a shot of the Ogre Mercenary. He's basically done ... all animations, special abilities and stuff added. A little more work needed on his voice clips / audio and he's good to go for the upcoming free DLC. Screen Shot 2015-10-15 at 12.28.39 PM by Rajpreet Dhillon, on Flickr
Wave loving the continual fixes and free DLC! Loving the game, it sits inside my favorite iPad Air app folder! Hoping the game has at least brought you some iOS love from the App Store!
