Just a chance to brag on my Werebear. He is such a beast. One thing that doesn't show on stats is the fact he has, I think, 5 counter attacks. Massive dodge, high damage, high hp, lots of counters, healers to help him. I've literally killed 5 people in a single round with him (including counter attack kills). This guy is a true warrior.
Damn. That's good stats. Imagine if he is fitted with more Epic and Legendary items. And I reckon he would benefit from more attacks. In DR 1, I had a Paladin who has 5-6 attacks but it was difficult to use all those attacks because his attack range is 1. The Werebear would be different because he has a longer reach, similar to the Half-Giant in DR1.
His reach is a great factor. I'd like to have some more HP regen, but overall I'm happy with him so far. I would feel lost without him. I'm enjoying this game immensely. Maybe, one day I'll be rich and I can just play games like this all day, lol.
That is impressive. A Werebear benefits a lot from having lots of counter attacks because he has the hit points to survive an attack and still be alive to deliver the counter. For softer fighters like the Demon Knight or Blood Shaman, a large number of counters is less helpful. You still have a long way to go though, your characters can (and will need to) get a lot stronger. Some of the later level abilities are really powerful and would work amazingly well with this character. Not sure if you have a Void Walker in your party but his 6th ability basically allows you to possess an ally with a demon and give that ally an insane stat boost. I have a Demon Knight in my late campaign party that can use his 6th ability to just become insanely strong at the cost of suffering health. It's so much fun activating that ability and just charging him into a horde of enemy and having him cut his way through. However, he doesn't have that much health so he doesn't usually survive the battle.
My folks are only level 2, so I cannot comment much yet. Playing on normal difficulty until I have learned more on how things work. Completed the first 3 campaign missions, and a bunch of the quickbattle ones. Got my butt whopped on the 4th campaign mission due to overconfidence: How hard can it be? Hold the bridge is for pansies, CHARGE! --> Ohoh, that didn't work out at all, change of plan and try again Well done, my good sir. The Bear rocks, great tank and good damage. My group is the Bear (melee), Corsair (ranged/melee), Shadow Ghoul (melee/ranged), Blood Shaman (melee), Huntress & Shamaness (both ranged). With the stages so far being quite big and open, having another melee tank might have been the better idea. Prime candidate for replacement is the Shadow Ghoul, with the others I'm happy so far. I just don't know yet who would take his place. A second Bear might be the best choice. While the Volcrate's skills look pretty good, I find his model way too ugly to look at all the time (see below) As RLennon asked about healing: The Huntress has a strong group-heal, the Blood Shaman an okay single-target heal, and the Ghoul a self-heal. (Ah, just saw Wavelight already gave that advise) Some misc impressions: - Don't like it that dead chars don't get XP. Give them at least half of what the surviving folks get, so they don't fall behind too much. - Turning the bells&whistles on on an Air1 makes things too sluggish for my taste, had to switch them all of again. Looks like the Air1 is hitting its limits here. - The environments I've seen so far look absolutely gorgeous, very well done! - Same goes for the character models, they look great. - Except for the Volcrate ... boy is he ugly. Looking at it again, things I notice as "ugh, that's terribly bad": His neck looks as if he has a second mouth there. The "armor" thing on his left shoulder looks like some giant fungus is growing there. Yeahyeah, chicken breast, but his right chest part looks horribly off. The legs look really weird, I think it's that strange shiny texture. Might look better with scales or feathers. - The Shadow Ghoul could look more shadowy and less "corpse-y" . More like he's made out of actual solid shadow/darkness, and less like Iron Maiden Eddie's cousin - Chars with mainly "15% failure, 10% chance of bad stuff" skills got an instant pass. 25% total failure chance (I know it's not correct, but close enough) is just too unreliable for my taste. - The Store is still a huge mess. I'm level 1 with only a few gold coins in my pocket. No need to show the expensive stuff right away. Store needs to take your party level into account. Possible solutions: unlock higher tier (more expensive) stuff depending on how far you are into the campaign. This could even be part of the story, say your General giving you access to a better shop demon or to an armory. Or make it dependent on average character level. - Just like in DR1 you have way too many equipment choices with only small differences (+2% or +3% to-hit? That's just useless filler). I strongly recommend to tidy it up a lot, here less is more. E.g Warhammer Quest got this pretty much right. For other games that got it terribly wrong in my opinion, look at Winterwolves' RPGs, e.g. Seasons of the Wolf: *waaayyy* too many meaningless choices, at least 90% of what's available got a "that's useless" stamp. - Store: Also, I miss an option to filter equipment per character ("show all the Bear can use") and type ("show me only weapons"). - And the store shouldn't show all that filler trash like armours/weapons without any abilities. It's tedious enough to check for what you can afford. - A smaller selection in the store would be good as well, I think. I won't be able to afford 20 items at once anyways, enough to show me only 5-10 relevant ones (see above on showing only stuff I can actually be expected to afford). - I'd like the option to name my savegames, so I can tell them apart more easily if I have more than one or two. - Regarding the new Fast Forward enhancement: Can I ask for a speed that is roughly 1.5 times the current "normal" speed? Normal I find too slow to sit through, even more so with lots of enemies around. And the current "high" is too fast for me to follow, especially when I'm tired. - The little stories told as background for the quick battles are great! They add a lot to the atmosphere and general "we're NOT the nice guys" feel. - The stat window is way too tiny on my Air1. Even with my glasses on, I have a hard time reading it. Screenshot attached, it also shows the vendor mess pretty well.
Here's a preview of the Blade Dancer character that will be added after this week's update. She's done now and is a very interesting melee fighter. She has a passive ability where she has a 50% chance of getting an extra attack for 1 turn whenever she uses one of her other skills. She is fragile but very quick and very aggressive. She can end up with a huge number of attacks and her attack animations are really fluid and striking. I really like this one and look forward to testing her out. I had this for a while but I'm not a fan. I want to make losing a character a serious blow. It forces you to play well with them. I was actually thinking of having stat reductions happen when they die (from permanent injuries) so be glad I didn't go that far. Yeah, the Air1 is my testing device and it's on the low end. Probably best to just turn off all effects and have a smoother FPS and better battery life. On new devices, you can crank it all up and not worry. It's absolutely gorgeous on my wife's iPhone 7 Plus. THanks for the feedback. I'll take a look and see if I can tweak either of them a bit. That's your loss. I would give them a shot. The Demon Knight has that but is one of the most enjoyable characters to use, in my view. Yeah, I need to enhance the store. It's on the list of stuff to tweak. Yep, that's what I did. Tapping the button once makes thinks 1.25x faster and tapping it again makes it 3.5x faster. Thanks. The stat window grows bigger if you tap it.
Re: Bladedancer: Underboobs and polka dots, oh my! You should go all out and make the bikini-top bra some fluffy pink bunny thing Of course, obligatory chainmail bikini reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OTGh0EMmMC8 .
I complained alot about the 15% failure rate from the first game. Makes chars with those skills too unreliable to use. Hey Dev, are you ever going to create a char with a Taunt skill?
Yeah, her chest is a little large than I'd like but that's okay. I actually don't mind her style of fighter being unarmoured. If you look at Celtic warriors, they basically fought in the nude so it's not too unrealistic. I remember Julius Caecer's memoirs mentioning female Gaulish cavalry that fought on horseback wearing nothing.
I know but for me it's what makes the game more enjoyable. With six characters, you have to think on your feet if an ability fails. Regarding Taunt, I haven't yet because it would require a fair bit of coding changes. The interesting thing is that if you just have your fighter attack as many enemies as possible in your turn, there is a high probability that those enemies will strike back at him. The AI keeps track of the last enemy that attacked them and are more likely to strike back at that enemy on their turn. Therefore, you can get the effects of "Taunt" by just making a single attack on multiple enemies with the guy you want to get the attention on.
I resumed a game from a save mid-battle and the action points that had accrued so far (I think it was round 3) were wiped for all characters. I assume this is a bug? I reproduced it during one of the quick battles that had action point replenishing totems. Put my heroes around the totem, filled up the action points, reset the game and loaded the mid battle save. My characters and enemies had reset action points.
I read Caesar's "De Bello Gallico" (Of The Gallic War) and other works of his era in school (in Latin original), so I remember those as well. And the guys doped up with mushrooms and alcohol and whatnot, painted blue, all screaming and frothing at the mouth while charging you naked. I don't mind usually either, just look at her picture on the left: https://1d4chan.org/wiki/Lelith_Hesperax (great tagline, by the way). I found the polka dots on the bikini thing just too funny to pass them up
Hhmm, makes sense when you put it that way. I found it very interesting that my playstyle changed radically in DR2 from the get-go: Not much healing available? Who cares, we are Chaos. Charge! for Khorne cares not from whence the blood flows, only that it flows for all eternity without cease I treated my folks like expendable cannon-fodder with a strong dose of "survival of the fittest" right from the start, nice change. And I applaud you that you brought it about with the way you present the darker theme of DR2, very well done. Just my personal perception, but I nevertheless think that making a char dying a serious blow goes quite a bit against the grain and mood I have when playing Chaos. Yeah, I complained about those too, and quite loudly Same as for blebhertz, I find them too unreliable for my playstyle. I prefer to be rather certain of the outcome of any action. But I like it that you can pick several ways to go about things, so there's that. Thanks! And thanks again
The polka dots are leather studs, but I can see why you would think it was just cloth with white dots. I'm okay with less armour if it's for a purpose. Generally, I think most warriors would wear helmets to battle and would probably cover their torso if they could afford it. Most would almost certainly carry a shield of some kind instead of an extra sword. In this character's case, it seems reasonable if she's going for speed / acrobatics though I think a helmet would still be worn.
I'm not sure that's a bug. The way it works is that the game autosaves at the end of each turn. At the start of each turn your heroes regenerate a random amount of action points. Some other random events may happen too like enemy or allied patrols arriving. So if you are playing and you regenerated 10 action points on your hero and enemy arrived that turn, you could quit the game and resume a mid-battle save and it will start that turn again. Therefore, you might only recover 5 action points and enemy patrols may not show up this time around.
