hey sinagog! thanks for trying to beat the tornado. You're on the right track with the stroking it up and down. like munchkin75 was saying, each piece of the tornado is like a seperate boss, they all must be hit multiple times for the tornado to be defeated. Good luck!
reviews @romanwilly thanks! I know, Deflecto's been on a roll with good reviews lately. woohoo maybe someday toucharcade will have "games we missed" reviews and feature it...?
no kidding, right!? no disrespect to toucharcade, but I am regularly asking myself why this never got coverage based on some of the laughable games they cover in reviews. did you ever follow up with them to ask why they never covered it? a futile plea?
haha, i did just that...sincerely hoping they'd respond and at least say what they didn't like about it. No response of course. I was devastated they never even listed in their "out now" for the week it was released. some of the silliest stuff gets through that filter
Might be worth shooting emails to individual reviewers. Although be warned, last time I recommended a dev do this they got slammed and a big comment section scuffle ensued. Still, getting on the front page in any capacity couldn't hurt.
thanks sinagog, I did originally try to reach out to Eli Hodapp directly, mainly because he wrote I am willing to admit that I have a soft spot for challenging, minimalist arcade games. I was delusional enough to think that meant he would definitely at least mention it at some point. Maybe I could reach out to some of the other writers directly...or at least I should have before releasing the game!
eh, im guessing they've seen Deflecto by now. especially since we keep posting in here, ha... btw i saw you did the milliondollarappwall thing...curious, any results?
but how much instruction is too much instruction? i intentionally left that stuff out of the how-to to stump the player. i like stuff like that, i guess...
I think trying the up-and-down motion (which I've had a lot of experience with ) and just about failing a couple of times convinced me it was a dead-end. Maybe have some message kick in after five failures in a row? Or leave it as it is and just assume I am denser than your average bear? Once I KNEW it was the way to go, it was easy. But I'm the type who plays Monkey Island with an FAQ open, so it's probably fine as is.
i was going for a donkey kong level of difficulty with deflecto. super hexagon was also a big inspiration. it also made sense with fewer levels since i was doing it all myself.
it is ON like donkey kong! yeah, i can see that, fewer levels, harder levels. that really brings back the eighties arcades concept!
