Ive never seen it in the wild, and lots of friends and coworkers that i thought knew about it have no idea. i guess i'm no evangelist!
hey zxy, quick question...for deflecto, did you use iskinematic rigidbodies with triggers or active rigidbodies? the reactions seem prescribed, but i'm just learning the basics of unity physics and thought i'd ask a guru.
who's the guru? i'm no unity guru, but i did have to figure that very thing out to make deflecto work. i started by thinking i'd use the physics engine for all the reactions of the dropping things...but I soon realized it was very unstable and unpredictable. i wanted a more, like you said "prescribed" reaction like an arcade game. so they are iskinematic rigidbodies with sphere colliders (the cheapest) and the dropped objects are reused constantly. the explosion is a totally different object that takes its place upon impact.
thanks! so what bout the destruction of the buildings...how did you do that without physics engine? how did you set the objects to move...rigidbody velocity?
rigidbody.velocity is right...except now its written differently the destructable objects are all using real physics. basically the "grenade" is just an invisible sphere that i swap out with the dropping object when it hits. the two objects being in the same place at the same time causes the explosion movement. then there are some particle systems in addition to that.
makes sense! but its hard to know, even after reading tons about it. i guess there are different correct ways to do things... that gives me a lot to play with, thanks!
yeah, who knows if i picked the perfect way...but it seems to be pretty efficient and run well on devices. not old ones, of course.
just saw retro shot! couldnt help but notice it was a LOT like your mini-golf concept game, minus the change in perspective for teeing off.
I know, right!? But hey, it's a lot cooler than I could ever do by myself, so more power to them. Gotta be fast in this game
sxsw interactive? yo zxy, did you submit Deflecto for sxsw interactive? do they have a one-man-dev-team category?
I didn't, I should've...but looking at the SXSW site there doesn't appear to be a games category. Am I missing something?
ratings wow zxy, just checked deflecto's app store page and saw your 19 reviews with a 5-star average...wow! congrats
Just got this, but my unlateral brain isn't even close to figuring how to get past that big grey tornado. Please spoil it for me someone!
tornado i'll try to give you a hint without spoiling it... treat each piece of the tornado like multiple bosses stacked on top of each other. I think that part is definitely supposed to bend your brain. wait till the avalanche!
Thanks, man! I think I'm on the same page as you... Will give it another shot tomorrow. Otherwise you have a guaranteed buyer for the Official Deflecto Guide/Strategy/FAQ Manual Vols.1-to-3 you're no doubt writing as we speak. (Thanks!!)
Yeah...I tried clicking on it repeatedly like it's one of the larger asteroids. Starting with the top segment didn't work, nor did starting with the bottom one. Tried strafing up and down. It goes dark red, but doesn't die. Tried making a sort of reverse tornado gesture. No dice. Rather stumped here.
