I'm catching up on games due to my 5s repair, and i definitely had this game on my radar. Now i read that there are ads in this upfront paid game. I didn't read further...still ads? If yes, i already moved on. That's a clear turn off and NO-GO strategy for me. Pity.
never ads in gameplay @Qwertz555 still ads, but only at the end of the level and only if you lose. I'm sorry you feel that way about my hybrid model, but seriously thanks for voicing your opinion. I'm new at this and still trying to figure out what works best for the game. I think of it as $1.99 w/ads or $2.99 w/o ads. Some people seem okay with that, and some seem vehemently against it. Im definitely not trying to be tricky or scam anyone so Im sorry if it came across that way. Im happy to give you a promo code if you want to check it out anyway. cheers, b zxy
Personally, I would make the game free, with a 2.99 option to remove ads. You capture the F2P people and serious gamers that would want a premium game. Because your game is paid with ads, I'm not touching it, sorry just my opinion.
$$ @zxy you had to know some people would react this way if youve been paying attention to recent game releases That said i dont think your hybrid model is unfair necessarily its just not what most users expect. Its infinitely more fair than games that use timers that restrict gameplay, have ads in gameplay, or use impulse-buy iaps to keep playing the level, etc. ive been playing Deflecto a lot since release Im currently on level 3 (i beat the tornado!). Even when I lose and the ad shows, I can hit replay and keep going. Only on the occasional full-screen ad do I have to wait a mere 5 seconds. I guess Im in the not bothered by ads camp. in the current state of the app store, id expect to start seeing this hybrid model more often M75
going free @sugimulm thanks for the suggestion. very logical. I will definitely consider it, and hope to hear more feedback here. I guess its just hard for first-time devs to go free right away. Or maybe its what happens when one person tries to do everything.
I commend you on a one man team. How about free with limited levels to give a taste, then premium to remove ads and the rest if the levels? As for future levels, paid expansions? Just a thought.
that paper i think your game is worth a premium price tag, but the double paywall thing turns off people who thought they were getting a premium app, no question. its in the description but not everyone will read that far. when/if your app goes free I think it will gain a lot more exposure and hopefully make some sweet ad revenue for you. Maybe that's what's keeping Toucharcade from covering you? just a thought...
^^^ simple as that. Thanks for your answer and offering a code, but i rather would give you my support for your hard, and as it seems, dedicated work as well. But i'll never support such a ______ way of business model (we all know that a lot of people hardly read all of the description). Imho, you're doing yourself zero favour with it.
cool game despite the gripes above about the pricing model, i am really liking this game. the simplicity is refreshing, gameplay is fast&frantic...not a brick breaker, no paddle, not space invaders, different than anything else out there for sure. retro sounds also good for playing discreetly, unless you get too into it, then its obvious. good stuff. adrenaline rush kinda game why not go free for a day for all those who oppose? I can see that it'd be scary to go free after making all that yourself. but stand back and look at the app store
premium or freemium? thanks for all the feedback, everybody. i don't wanna have a ______ business model. testing free out with a sale or two might help me ease into it. @ work today but thinking about all this. Also trying to decide if its better to remove the ads or just go free...
free if you please go free, go free, go free... quick, before you get bad reviews. i see you have a 5 star average so far if you remove ads you'd have to push an update right? price changes are just scheduled events
freedom I think you should listen to Qwertz555 and sigimulm...if you go free you get the freemium crowd and possible premium users with the iap. You already did the work to monetize it, I think removing the upfront price tag would lead to the best result imho.
free ok, internets, there you go. Deflecto is now free! I'll start a thread in the deals forum section when it starts showing up as free on the app store.
woohoo! wise decision, zxy. I see it as free on the app store now. I'll be looking out for the new forum thread. btw, i see this is getting announced today...!? http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=269446 just pointing it out since it appears similar in gameplay mechanics at least... but it's no Deflecto imho! hopefully TouchArcade will finally take notice and actually feature this great game
freebie thread added thanks, romanwilly! New thread started: http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=269456
whoa just like that, really!? you mustve had a serious change of heart...not that many people even responded, haha. you're bound to do better with the current setup. you did the extra work of monetizing it with ads and iap, might as well try it as a freemium model. you could always rip out the iap and make it paid for a fresh approach if this doesn't help. honestly, nothing really helps unless you're backed by a big publisher or featured on the app store. or this site. funny they mentioned the release of that game romanwilly posted a link to. why that and not this? just why? even with the pay model this is way cooler, cmon
