Will have to play more and see how much it really has to offer. Great work as always, Rayark. squashy Well-Known Member Jan 21, 2013 1,997 1 38 *burp* The Garden of Sinners #7 squashy, Nov 13, 2013 Hmm, one more thing in my wishlist. It's not like I can't afford a $2 title, but Cytus takes up quite some space and I still haven't played all the tracks. Looks lovely though! EightRooks Well-Known Member Jan 13, 2012 627 0 0 UK #8 EightRooks, Nov 13, 2013 Full disclosure: I'm not normally a fan of actual Bemani keyboard layouts (Beatmania itself, DJMax et al) - love a lot of the music that goes with them but my co-ordination is terrible when it comes to tapping out rhythms. And I mean terrible: my hands/fingers always end up both following the exact same pattern when they should be playing off each other, if that makes sense. This, however, this game I like. So far. Normal difficulty ramps up a hell of a lot from my point of view but the soundtrack is terrific - I'd say the 13 songs I've unlocked so far are of a much better standard overall than Cytus - and the emphasis on ever-so-slightly-cheesy melodramatic piano and the cutesy artwork with slight story elements do a lot to make the game stand out from the competition. Synchronisation seems good, and the patterns follow the melodies pretty well. My main complaints would be the production's still kinda threadbare - still pictures, blank backgrounds while the songs are playing, just like Cytus. There's not much feeling of progression, of working towards a goal - like I said, I've got 13 songs, but it says there are 28, it's stopped unlocking new ones when I beat them and I have no idea how to get the rest. Story scenes are obviously unlocked with your overall score, but that's as much as I can work out. And one potential big no-no - I don't mind Rayark putting in IAPs when their musicians are this good, but the two song packs available to buy have nothing to show how much they cost, even right up until it asks for your Apple ID. Doesn't it usually give you the Do You Want To Buy...? popup before that point? Either way, I think that needs patching. Other than that, seems awesome for this price. I'm sure I might well get frustrated with it later when it gets really tough but anyone seriously into their rhythm action should probably get this right now. Shame it had to go head-to-head with two of the biggest App Store releases of the year, as this really doesn't deserve to be passed over. copaeci Well-Known Member Nov 2, 2012 1,606 0 0 student, writer, reviewer, beta tester ID http://about.me/yesi.livera #9 copaeci, Nov 13, 2013 Last edited: Nov 13, 2013 it's said if the iap costs $3.99 from AppZapp. i haven't try this but does the game have similar gameplay like tap-tap game but with more buttons? Fairly simple four-floor stuff and it's the same "Oh, look, a traditional Japanese X house/dubstep/whatever track" every Bemani-style franchise does, but my sweet Lord it works so, so well. Seriously, OP, you should have put "from the makers of Cytus" in the thread title - I swear it'd have a few more people interested. If the big releases weren't hitting tonight I'd have bought the song packs by this point, I'm enjoying the game that much despite its shortcomings. I just wish I knew what I was supposed to be doing to unlock more things! nightc1 Well-Known Member Oct 19, 2012 4,362 0 0 AL #11 nightc1, Nov 13, 2013 Gonna have to get this one soon. Watching the teaser video, it looks like it plays fine on iphone5... any word on iphone 4S? Seems like the smaller screen might be an issue for a change. Still it's Rayark... and Cytus is my favorite rhythm game on any platform. Second to that is Gitaroo Man (PS2/PSP). EightRooks Well-Known Member Jan 13, 2012 627 0 0 UK #12 EightRooks, Nov 13, 2013 There is some minor lag on an iTouch 5G, admittedly. Nothing gamebreaking, at least not on Easy or Normal. Most of the Hard patterns seem flat-out impossible to me but I think that's more because 1) I'm rubbish and 2) I'm playing holding the iPod in one hand and using two or three fingers on the other, and I realise that approach won't cut it on the later difficulties. So I don't think the lag should be any kind of huge problem... just mentioning it as an FYI. Perhaps a more skilled player could clarify this further for you. What is the total disk size here? syntheticvoid Well-Known Member Jun 20, 2010 14,504 124 63 Musician & factory worker. a[V-O-I-D] http://apparentsymmetry.bandcamp.com #14 syntheticvoid, Nov 13, 2013 Wow. I thought Rayark was working on that fighter game... I had no idea this was coming. So far, I'm only 4 tracks in, and have only been able to play them on Easy and Normal (hard seems... well... so far... incredibly challenging - I'm pretty excited, as it felt the same with Cytus, but after a while, I started playing quite a few tracks on Hard, and it's a blast now). Anyway... the story seems a little... strange - to say the least. But the gameplay is outstanding. If you enjoyed Cytus (which is free right now too), Deemo is definitely another rhythm game you NEED to own. EightRooks Well-Known Member Jan 13, 2012 627 0 0 UK #15 EightRooks, Nov 13, 2013 Install size on my iTouch 5G is 328 MB. nightc1 Well-Known Member Oct 19, 2012 4,362 0 0 AL #16 nightc1, Nov 13, 2013 That's a reasonable size. It's about the same size as the old LaserDisc port of RoadBlaster... and nearly 200MB smaller than Cytus. Compared to other music games it's pretty small in size. If it were over a gig I think I might have a second thought about size, but 328MB installed for a music game is worth deleting a few things (though admittedly I already have enough space ). EightRooks Well-Known Member Jan 13, 2012 627 0 0 UK #17 EightRooks, Nov 13, 2013 Still not sure how many songs there are by default, and whether the add-on packs are part of the initial download or whether you have to download them, like Theatrhythm. Supposedly there are 28: I've unlocked 13, and there are two IAPs for five more songs each... but I don't know if there are 15 more I could unlock or if Rayark aren't making it clear that 10 of those 28 need to be paid for. nightc1 Well-Known Member Oct 19, 2012 4,362 0 0 AL #18 nightc1, Nov 13, 2013 If it's like Cytus, then all the songs will be built in to the single download. Athos Well-Known Member May 21, 2011 247 0 0 #19 Athos, Nov 13, 2013 The emphasis on piano in this game is really neat. Liking the Sta track. And Rayark games have fantastic graphic design. A lot of the vocal tracks are stinkers though. Singers have thin voices and lyrics are annoying gibberish. Yikes. A couple of the later vocal numbers have horribly messy mixes, but there's still melodic stuff or particular snippets of arrangement going on I still enjoy. And stuff like Undo, Utopiosphere or I Hate To Tell You are strong, gibberish or otherwise. Then again I used to listen to a lot of Jpop, Jrock etc., (still do, just not as much) so perhaps my tolerance for "gibberish" is higher than most people. I always used to enjoy playing the intro to L'Arc En Ciel's Get Out From The Shell to people who did not listen to Asian popular music and - much I sincerely loved that song - watching their expressions contort as they tried to work out what the hell Hyde was actually singing.
