Rocketcat and Madgarden, Glad to hear you will work a bit on the control. The observation for the hitbox lower than your feet was EXCELLENT and spot on! What i would like to see added is 1) you know the message before you leave an area, about leaving a party member behind "are you sure?" Add this after you start the car, before "Give'er", because you can't be sure they GOT IN especially in swarming zombies in the dark, and they get left behind - which sucks even more if you get that one amazing special character you've been waiting for. 2) as unlockables, with days to get to Canada progress or Perk progress, to be able to start as a special character, the better ones having higher requirements (ie. if you max Athlete, can start as El Satan etc)
Maybe it's just me but can someone explain the ammo sharing arrangement in this please? Swapping a gun between characters mid fight results in the ammo level changing depending on which character has it. Is this because during the heat of zombie battle, characters wouldn't have time to swap over ammo as well as firearms and therefore you o lay have the ammo available that that specific character is picked up in that mission? That's fine if so (if anything, great idea!) - I just needed to clarify. Took me a few minutes last night to realise that one of my characters was using the hand gun to pistol whip because she had no ammo despite the previous character holding the gun having had 148 rounds. Also, one of my characters had Kung-fu as a skill - 1). Is this better than fighting with a melee weapon? & 2). Does it stop them using firearms as even though she had ammo, she wouldn't shoot - just pistol whip?
As far as I can tell, swapping over weapons keeps the bullets in the clip, i.e. the ammo number under the gun in the swap screen. However, swapping over an empty weapon to someone with ammo that they found makes them load the gun, which you can then swap to another character. On Kung-Fu: (minor game spoilers about weapons and mechanics) 1) Spoiler It's better than fighting with most melee weapons as it does not wear out the character as much, is fairly fast, and can hit up to two zombies at once. However, their are some melee weapons with high enough damage, knockback, and splash damage to be worth, like the Grim Reaper's Scythe. Not sure about any others though 2) Spoiler Yep, Kung-Fu characters cannot use guns. For extra fun, make a karate/monk class with Martial Artist Perk and Warrior or BESERK! traits and call them Mr. Miyagi. Watch as they CQC everything and take out huge zombie hordes.
This would be pretty cool. Unlockable special characters would be nice as well, but something to show a little bit more development so we can all show off to our friends, who I'm sure are very tired of my ranting about this game and how I'm so close to Canada...Maybe one more run before I go to sleep. Clothes, hats, shades, anything cosmetic would be nice too. Maybe unique collectibles that could go in that 'extras' tab on Custom Chars?
I just died on the final motherfukkin siege after doing great the whole time, because of extremely cheap spawning zombies, and I have absolutely nothing to show for my efforts. I nearly threw my phone against the wall. I think I'm done for now. I got my money's worth anyway. Hopefully the replay value will improve with updates.
yeah, because getting killed at the last siege before Canada (second time i made it as far) is soul crushing without something to show for progress. will also lay off until updates/ progression.
You're almost there, dude. Keep in mind the falling/rising zombies spawn in their vulnerable state, so prioritize in hitting them first. If you find you're running out of ammo very fast, try switching melee weapons to guns every so often to manage both stamina and ammo. To ease the burden a bit, I suggest you play Rare Characters mode. While quality of recruit varies from bad to awesome, you have a good chance to recruit an OP character that will help guarantee a win.
I've had a bad streak of late game random events decimate my team right before the final siege multiple times now... and yet for some reason I still feel like this is one of the best games to come out in the last 20 years. It's incredible!
Thanks a lot for the advice. I actually was playing on rare characters mode, which is probably the only reason I got that far in the first place lol. If this game had an unlock system similar to binding of Isaac, and a multiplayer mode, it would be one of my favorite games of all time. Hopefully the game will continue to grow, and that massive potential will be realized. I'd say it's a solid 8 for now, but it could so easily become a 10/10 for me! Also I hope this game comes to Nintendo switch some day. This game would fit that console PERFECTLY, especially with two player mode with the joy cons! Fingers crossed.
I definitely agree that this game is far from complete, even though it's technically a finished product. They're adding so many content and tweaks that by the time they put out everything in their plan, the game will still skyrocket in gameplay value. I'm excited by the unlock progression they're gonna put in. Even though I don't have one, I agree with you on a Death Road port will be perfect for the Switch. If they figure out how to add online multiplay, it's gonna open up a lot of opportunities.
I've noticed a few times that an event will increase a stat but the stats icon indicates the skill level went down, am I just not understanding how to interpret? I realize that the intent is to keep character traits a bit of a mystery allowing their true nature to be revealed throughout the game, but sometimes wish that all stats and their actual values were revealed.
It runs on my iPad 2 fine but it can get pretty dicey at the end if I have a really spammy group/special characters with special effects. Thanks for the bug report, Madgarden saw this so he's looking into it. Hitboxes are known. 1) has been suggested before too, some sort of extra indicator at least. 2) may be possible as a "point sink". Like instead of a permanent unlock, you can spend a bunch of points to start with a special character for one game. Oh, I should clarify that there's no unlocks yet, but there is progression. The perks level up from 1 to 3, and those can make a big difference. I want to switch this over to an unlock system because that would make things much more clear... the current progression is probably too buried, even though it's important. I wonder if I should have just had no progression at all to start, instead of the current version. The current implementation is a half-and-half mix. It's hard to notice, but still important. And it still gets the downside of unlocks: You're arbitrarily weaker to justify the progression itself. Unlocks are next, though note the above (progression is in already). Check Custom Characters / Perks / their descriptions for all the requirements. Multiplayer is pretty likely for the iOS version after we add MFI and possibly also splitscreen. Nintendo has to pretty much invite us to the platform. Organize a letter writing campaign to get us Switch devkits and the rights to put Tingle into Death Road to Canada. This usually happens when your party is TIRED, and they get a stat gain. This can lead to some visual weirdness, because you have your true stat and your effective stat. Having a PARANOID character in your party gives you more stat reveals than normal, and certain events give you a bunch of stat reveals. Look for ones where the choices are along the lines of "talk about self/tell stories". Example off top of head, the Eat Marshmallows / Tell Stories event practically identifies your entire group if you pick the latter option (though this makes you miss out on the food).
SURPRISE UPDATE was approved, I just pushed the button on it so it should be making its way to you. Changes: - New feature: Selling weapons to a new trader that can show up. She will give you food if the weapon is to her high standards. - New trader: The Polearm Pal. - New weapons! Bardiche, Modern Spear, Sports Horn, #1 Foam Hand, Enchanted Skull Hammer, Boot on a Stick, and more. - New rare trader: Sir Boney, the Skeletal Knight. - New rare recruit: Ultimate Sports Fan. Endlessly blasts their Air Horn, recharging it every mission. This was the content that was going to be in the update in a couple weeks, but we decided to launch it early. Have fun!
Loving the trip so far! I already won 2 normal trips (barely....) I'm trying to get 4 people through now! NO SACRIFICES Also, I get that the martial artist won't use guns...BUT HE WONT USE THE CHAINSAW PROPERLY TOO?!?! I nearly made it to Canada too I would also love it if there was a way to manage ammunition distribution between teammates as I can only have 1 gunner at a time which kind of saddens me. I hope to see more in the coming updates! And before I go die horribly in another siege, is there any chance of this being ported to android? Thanks for the trip!
Seems that quite a few have been having trouble with the last siege (city of crushed hopes). I've been there twice now, and beat it twice. So hardly an expert, but maybe it will help someone. My strategy each time has been to simply run a circle around the city. On the left side you will skirt the border of the stage, and on the right side you will go inbetween the buildings. I simply stick to the edges taking out any zombies that get in my way. You can usually do a full circle without having to take out more than 4-6 zombies. This keeps me from getting fatigued and the zombies from cutting off my route. I never go in any of the buildings, as I dont want to get trapped. When the siege ends, you should be right next to the border to escape. Hope this helps someone.
