Third time's the charm ;) : Will we see an arena mode for the multiplayer campaign? Being able to battle it out with friends carocalypse, arena-combat-style, is both ideal for the setting, ideal for an online campaign mode, and sounds to me even more fun than multiplayer deathraces...

So does the same thing apply in multiplayer? Or do you just have to pay to get anything more advanced than the Shrieker/Sniper?

Personally I am starting to get very irritated at being destroyed by people several levels below mine just because they bought the best weapon and every modifier. I am sure they enjoy playing that way and the developers deserve to enjoy the money they pay them.

Every car and weapon should be achievable through in game part acquisition. Go ahead and make the number of parts needed to upgrade to them very high. But the current cap is going to turn off a lot of players.

Personally, I would rather earn upgrades than simply pay for them. I would be more than happy to further support the developers by buying custom skins. I would also buy a custom car model, say being able to switch the Shrieker model for another model with the same stats.

For me, the Deliverator IAP unlock seems broken. There is no price and when you go and buy it, nothing happens, no app store pop up, no car unlocked. I'm guessing this a is just a bug. iPad 2, iOS 5.0.1.

Yeah, sorry guys. The unlock progress that I mentioned is only for Single Player. We're always looking and fiddling at the balance of the game so feel free to let us know if you have any suggestions.

Quantum Apocalypse: We'll look into that, thanks for pointing it out!

Ok just found out that this has now been fixed on Apples side and relaunching the game or logging out and then back into Game Center should fix this issue.

Let me know if it doesn't :)

And for the fact that it is not possible to collect parts for cars and weapons after Shrieker and Sniper Rifle in multiplayer campain. Is it a bug ? Or do we have to unlock it via IAP ?

Remedy finally admits Shrieker/Sniper is the max

On the Death Rally Facebook page, Remedy has finally admitted that the Shrieker/Sniper levels are the max you can upgrade to for free in multiplayer.

Before you purchase the game because of the multiplayer features, read this...

    Thanks for your feedback

Lowering the price of a game once it gets some age should be common practice in this industry. On the iOS side this happens faster than on console/PC, but it should be common practice, and not due to reasons you suspected in your post. It's just business as usual.

As for the multiplayer update, I personally like it very much and have played it quite a bit. But even though I could unlock myself a Striker pack at no cost, that's not what I'm looking for in my Death Rally experience. I play using the Sniper and lately with a maxed out Vagabond. This is all available for free and there is more, way better cars. Now IF you wish to own the multiplayer and gear up to the top, you can purchase top notch gear - again common practice in this industry, business as usual. The only difference is most of those other games launched with all that functionality and didn't update to it later. Also, they don't have a 15 year old original version.

What I'm trying to say is that, we're naturally sorry that you feel bad about this long expected multiplayer update, but there really is nothing new or different in there. Most of the solutions in there can be found in so many other games out there.

To me the most insulting thing about this has been the stonewalling they have done on multiple forums about the issue.

I have seen several instances of them not answering or sidestepping questions. There have also been instances of intentionally answering a multiplayer question as if it was about the single player mode.

Just be honest about it. The stonewalling and deception has pissed me off more than the limits themselves and made me less likely to purchase any upgrades.

    Thanks for the information.

It's a shame... the price for the weapons are simply too expensive.

If we want all weapons, Death Rally will become more expensive than a console game.

I had fun with Death Rally. I bought it the first day. But I don't undestand the goal of the developpers.

    Yeah It's fixed now.

but snipers are the max for multiplayer? I hope that changes. As much as I like the snipers, paying those big prices isn't really my style. Maybe have a LOT of pieces to pick up for striker etc.

This freemium crap will be the death of ios gaming, mark my words, developers see the shortsighted goal of quick cash, but as a whole it cheapens the medium so horrifically that it is doomed for failure..Death rally was an amazing game that they sold way too cheap at .99 cents, and the disgusting yet classic over compensation to a ridiculous IAP model is inane...why can't developers charge a fair price for their game and make money? Are devs the evil ones or is it the idiotic public at large that supports and perpetuates the freemium model? Regardless, I see ios gaming destroying itself...it is sad ,so much potential here and we are trapped between brilliant pieces of software that can't make money and a sea of utter dreck that's soul purpose is to drain as much cash ad possible from peoples wallets...maybe just maybe if apple cares about the future of the platform they will limit or eliminate the freemium crapeware, malware , spam ware model!

Fair would have been to charge a fixed price for the whole multiplayer functionality. After all, it is a new feature to the game. However, charging us for each new car and weapon is just greedy!

I haven't even looked at the prices, 'cause my IAP are turned off. Nevertheless, this tactic just seems morally wrong.

Addditionally, you now have to purchase the same cars that you already have in the single player campaign. No new assets? The content they are selling now was already made and they did already make a profit on this after only three days after the game was released. The only new thing really is just the multiplayer match-functionality!

For that, I would have gladly paid an additional fee.

But not like this! True, most customers are like sheep and those are the ones perpetuating this business model.

So, why does Remedy do it? 'Cause they can!

Mark me down as another one who refuses to use IAPs or even ad supported apps. I will happily pay up front not to have to deal with either. Companies who don't give me the choice are IMO limiting their potential market, not to mention hurting their image.

This type of paywall nickle and dime you to death faggotry is the least endearing aspect of the iOS gaming environment and one that will come back to bite it in the end.

wow I really liked this game beforehand but I've only got around to the update and wow did they ruin a good thing. The multiplayer had a ton of potential from the beta but with this update wow game destroyed.

Not going to buy any of your unbalancing IAP and I'll probably be avoiding your future games now to.

I dont mind pay extra money for new features, levels or whatever but THIS IS SERIOUSLY GREEDY. Also i play most games for achievements too so if i want all achievements with this game i have to pay 40€/50$. And that is seriously sick! So if you really want to continue with this bullshit at least delete those "you have to buy this" achievements. 15,99 for one weapon (witch is pointless because noone else have it) is 15 super quality games for months to play. This is seriously sick!

I hate to tell you, but I'm pretty sure this isn't going to happen. The freemium/microtransaction business model is HUGE in Asia and it's since become huge on web games. Now it's populating to PC client games and mobile games as well and doing VERY well. DDO (D+D Online), LOTRO, DCOnline, CoH - all of these have gone free to play and have seen huge increases in revenue since then. Revenue for F2P games on iOS have skyrocketed this past year and if not already, will surpass purchasable games.
The model simply isn't going anywhere.

Now whether it's done right/well is another issue. Devs definitely still need to learn that. I agree that this game took a turn for the worse when multiplayer was finally released officially. It was so good before that. The key is allowing players to get the items through normal gameplay as well as through purchases. Or at least provide a good number of options for nonpaying players. With this game, the number of weapons and cars was too limited for nonpaying players.

Of course, one thing to note - the feeling on a game's forums rarely represents the true state of the game. Even if lots of people cry fowl on a forum, often the game is still raking in revenue. And vice versa as well - people can be praising the game on the forums, but if the game isn't well known, doesn't matter how much people like it.

I really don't know why everyone complains about the IAP's in this game. I've been playing Death Rally since release, all the way up until the most recent update without ever paying for an IAP and I've never lost any of the enjoyment of such a well developed game. There is nothing saying anybody has to buy the vehicles or weapons. You can earn them all by playing it the old fashioned way and not with real cash.

Don't ruin this great game for others because a FREE addition to the game wasn't to YOUR liking. The developers work hard to provide free updates that they are not obligated to make, and all everybody does is give them crap for it.

You purchased this quality game for at most $3? And they're greedy because they're trying to make a steady income? Seriously, if you don't like this game anymore, delete the app and move on. Go back to gaming on your consoles because I'm very thankful to have games this good on a portable device.
