I'm not sure how the 3 dev's share the workload, but gotta give thanks to Remedy Entertainment IP and Cornfox & Bros also. It seems like Remedy is the first company listed..so I'm tempted to give more thanks to them.
Backtothis: "Thanks for another amazing update guys." You're welcome! Thanks for updating Death Rally! We have been working on this update more or less since August! So this update means a lot for us too! See you in races! - Heikki
I have a question: If I had never connected to gamecenter while playing death rally, will all my progress be deleted with this update? Someone posted a 1 star review on itunes saying that their progress got erased and I would rather not have that happen if that's the case.
It's great to see the mp addition finally go live. I like the slot machine for the bonuses while you wait for the players to connect. And overall, connecting seems faster too. However, I'm not thrilled about all the IAPs. The little bonuses are fine, but the cars and weapons really make the game more difficult for those who don't pay. I would MUCH rather work for my rewards than pay for them - that's like 80% of the fun for me. But having those who paid for the cars and weapons destroy me makes it much more difficult for me to earn the cash needed to purchase the upgrades. Eventually of course it won't matter (assuming I stick with it). I think it would have been better if the cars and weapons were introduced later or slowly, one at a time (working up from the cheaper ones to the more expensive). Not only would that increase player retention (for both payers and non-payers), it would probably keep the revenue flowing for a longer period of time.
A reflection: while the new multiplayer campaign is a really cool idea (and well implemented), it also seems to be a way for the devs to profit further from Death Rally. The game has IAP in the way a wastelands warrior has scars. Every single item and car can be unlocked through expenditure of real-world funds. In general, this does not bother me at all. Play for long enough, and we will all unlock that stuff (though 20 dollars for the best stuff in the game does seem a tad... absolutely freaking bizarre ). What does bother me is the fact that players can buy IN-GAME boosts with real-world money, effectively throwing the competitive balance leagues out of whack. Most devs who include IAP in non-freemium games try to ensure that IAP are only used either for visual customization, or to accelerate progress (a principle which you'll even find in some freemium games). I've no idea how common purchased boosts will be, and perhaps it will rarely be a problem. But I still wish the equipment IAP would have been enough, and if not, there had been other ways to profit further from Death Rally's multiplayer campaign.
Heh, guess we had the opposite view. I actually don't think the boosts are as powerful as the cars/weapons. And in any case, you can earn them for free from the slot machine - I already won a few of them.
Still same problem to me, I never get into multiplayer, it says 'connecting' forever and then times out, saying I should try again... HELP!
Whoa! Just played multiplayer for a bit and.... IT"S AMAZING!!!!! There's zero lag, tons of fun, and it's extremely well executed. One of my favorite iOS games just got 10X more awesome (and that's hard to do for an already extremely awesome game!)
Yer probably right about the power of the boosts, and should they turn out to be easy to acquire (and capped somehow, usage-wise), then there's really no problem for me. My post was based on the principle (one that some devs of well-received and qualitative freemium games luckily often subscribe to) that visual customization and aids that boost game progress are ok (as long as whatever progress can be bought an also be earned, in-game), but IAP stuff that give a factual advantage in PvP is not. Perhaps my masochistic tendencies, in where I sometimes enjoy games more when I fight (and win) from an inferior position, help with the beating we are all about to take from those that spend 30 dollars right away in their impatient desire to be a-rollin'-in-stylin' Mountain Remedy Cornfox Sheep, will we eventually get an arena map for the multiplayer campaign? Being able to battle it out with friends carocalypse, arena-combat-style, is both ideal for the setting, ideal for an online campaign mode, and sounds to me even more fun than multiplayer deathraces...
All cars can be unlocked through online play (each kill you get, ai or player in a match, gets you a part to one weapon or car). Might take a bit of a grind, but I think Death Rally is more of a fun grind (at least to me it is)....
Oh ok, I just updated this and thats what I saw. When i connect to online play, i get like 4 ai and like 1 other player. Is this happening to anyone? Im not in a full player lobby.
Yes, this happens to everyone. It all depends on how many people are online at that time for that race. Sometimes you'll get 2 real players, sometimes 6. That's so it doesn't take super long for a connection AND you get a full race too (all non-player slots found automatically go to AI). Personally, I think this is a good system, saving frustration and still adding challenge of what would have been players.
I have played all the evening with the new update. I'm impressed, the multiplayer is very fun, even without IAP (I have already the 3 first cars full upgraded, I'm beginning the 4th). Sometimes, there are 4 AI with only 1 real player, but the race is always pleasant. The AI are easyer to kill, so I collect a lot of part for the upgrades. The dev could add a new random race, in which the XP is higher. Indeed, I do always the 3 races that I find easy, and I'm probably not the only one. A random race could be a good idea. And the rewards should be higher. Anyway, I have Death Rally since the first day. And the game today is completely different, the new features are excellent. Good work Remedy .
Cap on Upgrades? By collecting parts in game I have upgraded to the Shrieker car and the Sniper rifle. However now no parts get rewarded for kills. Is the Shrieker and Sniper the top limits of in game part upgrades? If so that seems kinda cheesy.
I'm encoutering the same issue. I have the Shrieker fully upraded and have unlocked the sniper. But now, I haven't new part when I kill another oponent. I'm level 10. I hope that it is a bug. In the "personal communicator" in which we can buy the cars and the others weapons, the "Sniper" is always at 0,79 EUR. But the "Shotgun", the "Gatling" and the "Bumpers" are "Gained". If it is not a bug, it's too bad... because it could not possible to evolve without IAP
There's been a change in the latest version. To start unlocking new weapons/items in single player, you need to kill a car which has that weapon/item to start collecting those parts.
