Loving the game so far. There's definitely a lot more going on than in Reckless Racing, which is completely based on how good you are at drifting. This is a top down racer done right.
Game Impressions Hmmm.. Great graphics and presentation, but I'm really not a fan of the virtual pad for acceleration and steering. It's both imprecise and not intuitive and there's no alternate method of control (reckless racing had a few methods of control). Overall I like everything about this game except the control scheme (I'm on an iPad btw)
I am so happy to hear that this has a joystick for control. Probably THE main reason I didn't get into reckless racing that much is because it didn't have this control scheme. I loved how horror racing controlled and wished reckless racing was as good. I never could get used to any method reckless racing had to offer...the buttons just weren't reliable enough. Anyways, when I am able, this will probably be the next game I get, it looks AWESOME!
Its a bit hard to have more than 1 button for control because you need a button for weapon fire. Horror racing half-wheel + weapon button was good too.
Agreed. I was trying too hard to like RR, while Death Rally grabbed me from the 1st race, and held on with its career mode. It's up there with NBA Jam and Dead Space as the best game from a major dev this year.
Note playing on ipad. Now, all these comments about how this is better than RR .... so I took the plunge and NO WAY! Yes, the game could be lot of fun, but it suffers from having few tracks, very dark tracks also (making it impossible to see clearly what is going on), no mini map and, honestly, slow controls. There is no comparison with the controls of this game with RR. On ipad the controls are too slow to react. I can accept the lack of brakes (well, I would rather have them since it can create much more variety of tactics). But please make the controls responsive. These ones are similar to the ones of Red Nova .... another game I keep disliking every time I start moving my ship. I also miss the speed of RR, the sliding to kick cars out of the track and I do not like too much the mono directional firing. I like the game idea, though, and the graphics.
From the video, and the description of controls, this strikes me as being more of a dual stick shooter variant than a racer. Which is no bad thing in and of itself. Possibly also if approached with that in mind, it might be more enjoyable. But I haven't played it yet as I'm still on the fence. Anyone who has, think my impression is apt though or not really?
Yes, you may be right. If you played Horror racing then you would have a good idea how this one plays. Weaponised racer can not and should not play like a proper racer. Thats why comparisons to RR may not be quite accurate. The games are in different genres. The only games this one can be compared to are Horror Racing, Scrap Metal and similar. You will not get a proper racer but a really fun game.
I agree with everything written here. Its very hard to control, no brake at all, the tracks are very dark and there arent many levels. Not worth it.
well, the game designer is the co-creator of Minigore. So have did anyone really expect a game with lots of content/diversity? ... I am sorry, I could not resist ... Besides, I agree... it is not a bad game but it is not great either. I wouldn't buy it again at the moment. YMMV
Really enjoying this game. The lack of an accelerator is okay but I would love a small map in a corner With do much detail I tend to lose sight of the direction specially if the other cars are not on screen
Game Impressions Seriously awesome game. Forget how many cars or tracks there are: the fun factor is through the roof; that's all you need to know. Controls were a very minor hurdle for me personally; I got used to them within 10-15 minutes of play. Couple of notes: better on the iPad than iPhone. However, I would have liked the cars to be smaller on the iPad so you could see more of the track. This would, admittedly, make the iPhone version vastly inferior, but basically what you have here instead is a waste of iPad potential. I'd really prefer if you had the option of the controls "floating" to wherever you place your thumbs during play as done by a number of other games. As it is, you're able to slide them up or down along the sides of the device, but they are still a little too far "in" for my personal liking. Recommended without reservation if you have an iPad 2. Frame rate is just glorious. I'd be a tad less excited if I only had an iPhone to play this on though. No idea how it runs on the original iPad.
