I beat him through luck and playing VERY dirty. I picked up at least 5 nitros during that race. Everytime he was next to me, I'd either block him or knock him into a wall. I saved my missiles for only when he passed me. Missiles slows down the enemy.
Oh okay.. I thought Buuks was referring to destroying Adversary. Outracing him for 1st is very much achievable with a maxed out Wraith or Deliverator and probably a little luck in Nitro Boosts. Destroying him though is another thing. And that's what I'm still trying to achieve. I always end up getting him down to one bar but not completing the job. Anyone got any tips? What weapon did you use to destroy him? I might try Mines or Sniper later. Done trying Missiles and Striker several times already. I guess luck would really be a big factor as far as ammo is concerned.
I used missiles (normal ones, Striker wasn't there yet but it is harder to get to inflict its full damage so I wouldn't use it), however you really need a bit of luck with ammo powerups. Possibly also with nitros if you can't keep up. Maybe it's harder now that some ammo powerups are on the track when the race starts, seems like in many races I'm forced to pick up one before I actually get to fire anything when they spawn right at the start.
You don't need luck, you need a different strategy. You almost sound like you are trying to come in first with all other racers intact. I win quite a lot of races that I start in last position, however that usually means the others are all dead. Out-driving them is much harder, they will keep slowing *you* down with their weapons, and always remain a threat. Especially bosses are quite fast so taking them down early makes the rest of the race a piece of cake. I suspect you are doing things like driving by the rules when you play an upstream challenge, where I would turn around and shoot the other guy down instead.
Yes, playing Death Rally like a normal racer is probably the cause of some ((or possibly much) of what dislike there is for the game. As a shooter in a racing-heavy context, the game shines and excels, many of the control/physics concerns diminish or disappear completely, and is one of my favourite games on the iOS platform.
Always stay directly behind him so your normal gun does damage. Use missles and always destroy boxes so you can reload. Dont waste any missles.
I'll give that a whirl. I'm finding when I start in last, the two "WAY faster" cars take off to a point where they cannot be seen again, unless the game gives you nitros, which there's no guarantee.
True. I can totally relate on those moments where you haven't even fired anything or maybe just once and then immediately you pick up one or even 2 consecutive ammo powerups. How you wish it would have come later on. I guess I'll try again with the Missiles. The good thing about it is that it slows down the opponent momentarily as well. I guess one other challenge in fighting the Adversary is that during the last 2 laps when you need the ammo the most, all those crates have been inadvertently pushed already on the far left side of the track making timely pickups even more challenging. On another note, it would have been great also had Adversary's vehicle been unique and an unlockable vehicle upon 126% completion.
... and any info on multiplayer? Guys, GC multiplayer is SO easy to implement, particularly if you put up with anon matchmaking only... and it's really-really fast and has low latency. Please implement it!
But the problem I see is that the best multiplayer experience from this game would come from a 6 person race, and I don't think that's so easy to implement as opposed to the basic 1vs1. I could be wrong, of course.
I've played with GC quite a lot (I lecture on iOS programming) and found it very fast and responsive. Even 6-player races could turn out to be very good and playable, assuming noone is on an inherently slow / lagging connection.
Or you could just shoot the last two or three cars that are easy to reach and then turnaround until you get close to the fast cars, then turn around again and wait for them to pass you... I can definitely see this being a bit boring if you play it like a regular racing game, I see it more like a shooter with cars. Although even if you only shoot up three cars and come in last that gives better rewards than trying to come in first without shooting anyone, so if you haven't fully upgraded your car, doing it this way isn't the worst thing to do.
Even so, 1v1 could still be fun anyway, you could compete on all sorts of things that you can't really compete on when playing against five other humans.
It doesn't necessarily have to be 6 humans, they could use AI for empty slots/drop outs. Balancing would probably be an issue, if everyone were to use Level 9 Missiles the game would be over before the first lap. XD Though I suppose they could stick with basic (i.e. Level 1) weapons and cars, but the best would be a mix of destructiveness and fair play.
yep, exactly. another interesting problem is that bosses has some kind of rubber banding, which sucks.
I've been a huge, HUGE fan of Death Rally since the days of my Pentium 133mhz with 32mb of RAM. Remedy made the original DR freeware 2 years ago or so, I play it every damn day. I was so excited to try iOS Death Rally but those controls are keeping me from enjoying it.
Racing games on iOS generally don't work well in my experience. The controls are crucial. TouchRacing Nitro Kart was great. Draw Race too. Half steering wheel on screen: Not too bad. Steering wheel on screen: Not great. Tilt controls: Bad. Left Right arrows for turning: Better than everything previous, but can be confusing when you're facing different directions. Finger controls: The car follows your finger around the screen. Further away to get faster, nearer to slow down: Genius!
We finished work on Death Rally - Update 2 yesterday! It should make the hardcore Reckless Racing fans happy with these new additional controls: Additional controls isn't the only thing we added to Update 2, there's also something else...
