Yep, Death Rally is occationally blighted by the very same issue (on one track in particular), but on the whole, I find the controls pretty decent.
I don't know if other people are using the same controls as I am (are there even options to change them?) but it's just a standard directional stick like a dual stick shooter uses. There's no way to really get confused, you just point it in the direction you want to go.
Does anyone know how to force a Medium level race to appear? I have all my cars and weapons maxed out but all my races are extreme with one easy. I never got the achievement for winning a medium race
For those still in debate over getting this I'm posting my first early impressions, but I like it. Very much actually. Even better than Reckless Racing. Controls are no issue for me and work quite well and although running into barricades and the tracks for now they are not yet defined for me and it's just a matter of familiarizing them is all. This game has more depth than I'd thought. At first when finding my car was slow in earlier races, thought what?. But have since upgraded the speed. Upgrades include health/speed/handling/armor/weapons. Graphics are nice too and close up of your car is eye appealing and although just a shade darker than I'd like with the tracks, its just a personal gripe really. Doesn't detract from racing on the tracks at all. Later: Tried now even a few more races and it's MUCH better than RR and I'm loving it even more. Definitely a must buy game imo. If into shooters and racing and these combined together make it a worthwhile to play even more. I'm into this game. Glad for the buy after hemming on it but then I'd not gotten it for $3 either. As the game description states "gameplay is addictive, intense, explosive fun, with racing + weapons = awesome" is pretty much on the mark. Nice that some have played more in-depth but for those still riding the fence these are my first impressions.
Couple things I'd like to see fixed: - lots of people complain about the controls, but the only thing I think that needs to be fixed is the sensitivity - needs a slider to adjust the sensitivity of the thumbstick. - the reverse maps don't allow u to change camera (it defaults to 1, and the cam button isn't there) - I far prefer camera 2, so i don't play any reverse maps right now. Looking forward to playing the update! (don't have wifi access right now)
For the people curious, God of All Gods achievement is unlocked at 10 million fame. I assume that the next one will be unlocked at 42 million.
Woo, I'm at 2.5 million fame. No way am I going to make it to 10 let alone 42 million... Lol. Might as well not have the achievement at all. I guess it's good for only the most hardcore of players.
+1 I like this game a lot and have spent the past few days getting used to the controls. Admittedly, having options such as different control schemes (tilt, sensitivity, etc.) is always a good thing and in DR's case would really address many of the complaints related to the controls. The other thing I suggest is the addition of an optional mini map. Sure, you become familiar with the various courses after running through them a few times, but a mini map would be useful. I know many have complained about Reckless Racing, but one of things that RR has is options in terms of controls and sensitivity. As I've always said, controls make or break a game. Unfortunately, you're dealing with a target audience that likes to the ability to pick up and play a game quickly. As I said, the controls in DR do require a bit getting used to, and because of how they are now, that can also be a turn off for some. Also, this thread needs to get cleaned up when it comes to the pricing posts. This thread should focus on the game itself not the price. If you think the devs owe any of us an explanation about their pricing or marketing strategy, then you're seriously mistaken. As a consumer, you make up your own minds when it comes to buying decisions. But don't fault the devs because they have a business to operate. Even in the case of promised content, devs are under no obligation to deliver on those promises. In this case, however, the devs have delivered which should be our focus.
This is one of those games that I didn't think I would enjoy and then you realized you just lost 2 hours the first time testing the game. Admittedly I didn't get used to the controls at first, but after about 10 minutes and using Camera 2 everything started to feel very natural. I also appreciate the option for setting the Dpad offset; setting the Dpad towards the middle of the screen makes playing the iPad just that much more natural. Death Rally could use more anti aliasing for the iPad2, otherwise it looks and plays beautifully. I wouldn't hesitate to buy the game again if I had the choice, even at $5.
I actually been having no problems with the controls what so ever and think the placement is fine as for the Touch device. Maybe because I've played a lot of dual stick shooters and one of my fav games perhaps but they don't seem to be a problem but just getting familiar with the tracks. Terrific game.
It's still so hard for me to click the "Buy Now" button. I admire the dev attention this game has received in only a week+ released. I still think I can hold out for a $.99 sale, but we'll see...
Camera 2 is where it's at. I can't see anyone having too much trouble with controls if they upgrade their handling and use camera 2. This is certainly one of the more immediately fun games I have played this year. The question for me now is whether I will be incented enough to keep playing it without a more specifically directed set of goals or campaign or if my interest in it will peter out. Definitely worth the 3 or 5 dollars though, I'd say.
Purchased it when it was on sale. Anyway, I'm thoroughly enjoying this game. It's one of the few games which I really played for hours the first time I opened it. I'd have to say though that Reckless Racing has without a doubt better graphics, but I see myself playing Death Rally much much longer than I did with Reckless Racing. Controls do need some getting used to. I got it on my 2nd or 3rd race, and while using behind the car camera view. Unfortunately when you play a Rotated, Reversed, or Mixed challenge, the camera goes back to Camera 1, and you'd have to adjust, if you got used to camera 2 such as myself. Camera 1 isn't really as hard to use but getting in first on Hard and Extreme difficulties can be a challenge due to the orientation. It may get a little easier though once you have the higher vehicles. If they were really to have an alternative control scheme, I could only think of auto-accelerate, left and right turn buttons on the left corner, and a fire button on the right corner. As they are right now though, I'm already comfortable with them. Although I'd have to admit my thumb does get tired after 10-15 races. I don't know why but compared to how I play dual stick shooters, instead of using the flat face of my thumb, I tend to use the tip of my thumb for Death Rally. Anyway, I'm hoping for another major update with more vehicles, tracks, weapons, and hopefully some sort of Arena level with no finish line, and just battle to the death ala-Twisted Metal. Oh and by the way, I can't see how useful the Laser Sight is.
Totally agree. This game is so fun, I played it 2-3 hours straight as soon as I first loaded it up. I think this game really has a bright future. It's already a great game but there's so much potential to even add to its content and gameplay.
There should be a last man standing race mode, where you have to take everyone out and only the last guy standing wins.
Similar to a normal race then I've done many races where I take them all out in the first lap then as I'm the only one left the race ends as I'm the winner
Well then this mode will have all the enemies have more health then normal then. Also have more ammo drops then normal.
