Downloaded. I’ll be back with impressions soon. Edit: First off, this is a tough-as-nails platformer that plays in portrait mode with left and right movement controls in the bottom left and a jump button on the right. I wouldn’t mind a landscape mode but it works quite well and the controls are very tight and responsive. The intro is really cool - I thought the game was even more brutal than it is because of the way it starts out the first time you play, but that was just the intro. After that, you find yourself in a cage with others that have been locked away by the evil red monster that starts chasing you midway through the levels. In this “home area”, you’ll have access to leaderboards and a guy that will help you at the beginning. There’s more to the area that seems to be locked for the time being. From there, you jump down a pit where the actual game takes place. Your score is based on a few different things including collecting enemy souls represented by purple blobs that appear after you jump on them, as well as how fast you complete the level. Killing enemies sometimes refills one of your four hearts. These are a precious commodity as your life is not refilled at the start of a new stage. You’re going to need to choose quickly if you want to risk killing them or moving forward because the big red enemy I mentioned earlier will kill you in one hit and then it’s back to square one. From the short time I’ve put into it I can tell there was much care put into creating a full-blown, intense platformer experience. Easily worth the cost of a coffee, cheeseburger, or box of donuts. metalcasket Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Patreon Gold Patreon Bronze May 24, 2010 11,065 1,342 113 Deepest Circle, Hel #3 metalcasket, May 28, 2019 I wanted to post requesting no one leave any impressions and just go and buy this immediately, but there you go. Unless.... an endless mode is unlocked later in the game? Feel free to use spoiler tags Man, I’m having so much fun and getting better every time. At first I thought the big guy would constantly creep up on you if you slowed down but I was pleased to discover he lags back a bit and only pops up every few seconds. Makes for a more fun / less stressful experience. But don’t get me wrong, it’s still intense - in a good way! I’d be interested to know exactly how the scoring works. i.e. specific point values for haste percentage, level reached, enemies killed and souls collected. I made it to the second set of levels. Spoiler You've really added variety by going vertical here. Having a shop keeper that you can buy upgrades from is awesome. And that whole “in-between” section is so neat. The new enemies all have their own tricks to figure out so it’s rewarding to learn and overcome the new challenges they bring! The Monster’s Chamber is full of surprises! Spoiler I’ve discovered a key and set my first prisoner free. It’s very cool to be able to select any level you’ve previously visited. And the way the NPCs have their own section and little stories in the Monster’s Chamber is great. Other than the small bug with Bouldy that you’re already aware of, everything else seems fine so far. It’s not a big deal since you can still play the game without having to talk to him. So far I’m #1 on the leaderboard but I’m sure that won’t last long. Speaking of killing the leaderboards, I can’t help but think of @wondroushippo and @Andy C83 while playing this Hoping to see hundreds of people on the leaderboard spilling blood all over Death Hall soon!
