Online only has dual reasons. One is for the cooperative element (and future additions) of the game. Clashmobs, for example, can't be played while offline. Many elements of this won't be either. Be it the future cooperative/multiplayer aspects all the way down to simply cross device/platform saving. Secondly, it is a measure that will be implemented on a much larger scale by the larger developers and publishers as an authentication method for in app purchases in order to combat hacking. And combating hacking is something very important for the future cooperative of this game. I'd imagine nobody really wants to be playing with/against the same people that can do one second laps in RR3. It may not be the same hacking concept but the principle is the same. People might want to get used to online only. It is going to get a lot more widespread over the coming year and onwards because as much as some people want to say hacking has no real impact, it does. To both the developer and to the genuine players. iOS 7 has a multi purpose also. It excludes devices that are not compatible due to memory limitations on those devices. If they can't run iOS 7, well they can't run this either. Its a simple matter of memory issues. The fact that an earlier limited version is available that iOS 6 can download simply shows a part of the Apple authorisation and developer procedures that the public wouldn't normally see. Apple is in the process of updating the developer page system because a lot of developers are not happy with older versions of their apps being downloaded because some developer API's and links change with updates and make older versions unusable and leads to bad App Store reviews that are not really relevant to current versions. Also iOS 7 has the fastest adoption rate of any iOS update so far (reports vary but Apples own figures make this claim) and is currently unjailbroken. So iOS 7 is already the iOS installed on the majority number of iOS devices and soon enough that'll be in the high 80's/low 90's percentile. So iOS 7 only still targets the vast majority of iOS users currently and even more so as more update or buy the new devices. It also excludes jailbroken devices, which despite jailbreaking having many legitimate useful purposes and many legitimate users, unfortunately the majority who jailbreak don't have those legitimate uses in mind. And of course ultimately controller support. I thought that one was obvious considering that feature is dependant on api's in iOS 7. But to reiterate what a later poster with substantial knowledge of the subject has said, iOS 7 is essential for this feature. As to the game itself, I'm pretty sure most know I was a fan of the original so my opinion on this one is probably an easy guess. It is a vast improvement on the previous and simply stunning to look at, but it has added a decent amount of depth in missions, an element of storyline and mission targets. It is still of course a zombie shooter but it does that very well with excellent controls that are fully customisable through the settings menu.
Don't know about others, but the game is certainly not rubbish. Just would be nice to hear directly from MadFinger as to why it was made to be iOS 7 and up. Whatever the upgrade rates have been, I think gamers, particularly those who enjoy shooters and the like over casual puzzle games, have probably an even lower rate of adoption of a new OS knowing that it could cause issues with other games.
Woah... I can already tell this game is going to have terrible timers. I upgraded the first weapon you get and it is making me wait over a day. What will happen when I would to upgrade a powerful weapon to level 3? Wait a year? This one I believe is going to be way worse then the first. On the good side... It has game pad support.

Been playing a bit, and it is Dead Trigger improved, with missions that vary a lot more than the first. At this point in gaming history, there isnt much that hasnt been seen yet. That, or i havent reached those parts yet. In a similar fate to Dead Effect, this is a well made game, but everything it offers has already been done. I'd still prefer a premium model than this, but hey, if this is what is offered it doesnt really leave us much choice. I really like the auto-fire which i think was introduced first in the World War Z game for iOS. It frees up GUI clutter, and it makes firing on the touchscreen a lot easier. I have been playing the missions on hard mode, and it does pose a bit of challenge more than the normal difficulty, but it isnt about making the zombies more durable or something shallow. In here, difficulty is implemented by having varying aggressiveness of the zombies, the multiple entrance/spawn points, and the actual amount of zombies swarming through. Kills arent too easy, and makes each kill satisfying without feeling dragging. Im enjoying this, but like most games on my iphone, im going to delete it, so that i can enjoy the game on the ipad mini retina (SOON!). Right now, if iOS6 wont let me play DT2 on the ipad mini, i can wait. Too many games to play right now to force playing this on a small screen.
Alright, shut up about freemium, iOS 7, and all that, let's talk about the actual game. Is it any good? How does it compare to the original?
All in all I'm happy they didn't add a 'Your character can only make x amount of trips before he has to rest for x amount of hours'
Putting all the negative aside about freemium, it's timers, and lack of premium currency spawning I feel the game is pretty good. Graphics are great, if you are a pro first person shooter who can hit and run like a madman then I suggest go manual mode. I am a rookie therefore auto fire suits me just fine. I feel this game drains my iphone 5's battery fast. I wonder if playing on the new iphone 5s might make a difference on battery. I have started the Africa story but did not finish it since I'm working on upgrading my hideout. Anyone got any tips on what upgrades to focus on early game?
Dead Effect is pretty good. As far as this game, I've been playing the Android version and am really liking it so far. I'll see how the freemium aspects work out, but graphics are outstanding and loving having more mission and environment variety.
Alright well I have been playing this for about an hour and so far a lot of it is the same as the first one but still fun. Just waiting to hit that IAP wall though.
The zombie count is really great. I like how there are quite a few more than there were before. Killing that special zombie and hoping for that indegridient to that new weapon to show up is pretty great. Upgrading your guns with that timer may feel like a while but it goes by pretty fast.
Wow thats crappy of you. Those thousands of jailbroken devices that cant update or people who just dont care to go to ios7 are out of luck? Didnt expect that from you guys....
