I know and I understand that there are more casual player and it only makes sense for developers to make casual games. However I have a different view on mobile gaming (hardcore mobile gamer since like 2004).

But simply because of the fact, that there are more casual gamers out there, does not justify my support towards casual games.

And if I remember correctly (which I do) DT1 had no aiming down the sights when it released. They added it later. It shows that there was (and is) no need to aim, which proves that this game was completely designed to be a mindless shooter without any skill needed.

I don't see why I should support such games.

Controls on mobile devices can be done excellent without nerfing (like auto-aim, no ads, auto-fire...) Why do developers of FPS games keep trying to make "revolutionary" controls? If controls are done right the control over the characters actions can be almost compared to keyboard + mouse. I never played any PC game with auto-aim and auto-fire... (except games designed for 5 year olds). Is DT designed for 5 year olds? Can't Madfinger make good controls? Or does Madfinger think that we are so dumb that we are unable to play with classic FPS controls? The answer is all three, if you ask me....

And that's perfectly fine. I'm sure Madfinger wouldn't be that upset even.

As I'm not a five year old, I'm not sure what kind of game appeals to them so I couldn't answer that part.

As to whether Madfinger can make good controls, well DT is not their only game, they've done other shooters but one thing that's noted in just about every review of their shooters is how tight their controls are and how well done they are.

I'm also sure they don't think we are too dumb to use "classic" controls. The fact is though idevices are not pc's, the exact same control method wouldn't necessarily translate that well. But even at that, auto aim and aim assist is turned off on any of their games when I play them.

Those options, for both casual and hardcore, can be found in the settings if one looks for them or wants to find them. Changing default settings, which are probably suited for casual players, to something more suited to "hardcore" players is something I'm sure a "hardcore" gamer is capable of doing. Probably a few five year olds could too.

Many will fault Madfinger for lack of story or repetition of environments and other things and that's fine, each to their own, I don't have to share that view, but one thing (one of many in my opinion but again each to their own) Madfinger does very well are the controls for their games on the platform they develop for.

On the "mindless shooter" comment, well that's very accurate as Madfinger never claimed it was anything else or meant to be anything else.
They didn't quite term it as mindless shooter but they were always very clear that it was not meant to be a story driven massive multi faceted campaign. It was just meant to be some simple shoot em up fun. That's all. Can't fault them for that. They just made it to be a certain thing and that's what it was. Pretty simple really.

They have more ambition with this one in certain areas but they still say the basic strategy is the same. And as 18 million people did download the last one (as to whether they played it or not, I dunno, I don't have an insight in to their devices so not going to engage in that debate), it would be a bit silly to change strategy too much.

It's a bit hard to argue with those kind of download numbers in any way.

wise words rip. i agree with almost everything you said above. the fact is, DT is the only free to play games that doesn't required any IAP to progress and also the only FTP games on iOS that i enjoy playing it. dont know bout its sequel. but at least thats my honest experience with the first one until i get bored with it. :D

You must understand him... DT is obviously the only game he ever played. I dont see any other reason why someone would say this:

Come on, there's really no need to get personal.

You don't have to like the first one or be interested in the second but at least play nice.

It is perfectly possible and reasonable to express an opinion on a game without making dismissive statements against another poster who doesn't share your opinion.

At least keep it on the subject of the game rather than dismissing their opinion in such a manner, which despite its veneer of civility is still dismissive and semi derogatory.

A perfect example of why its so difficult to actually express an opinion at all here. And don't bother with the "its the Internet excuse", it doesn't hold water.

Woah, what's with you? I wasn't being personal. I was joking when I said that DT is the only game he played (obviously that's not true), but I have doubts his statement was serious when he said that DT is the only game he enjoyed and that the game requires no IAP.

I'll put a smiley at the end of an "un-serious" post next time, just so everyone gets the meaning of it.

    Okay, fair enough, I apologise.
Its hard to distinguish whether it was joking or not at times online.
And I obviously misunderstood and perceived it as a comment on the poster rather than the joke you intended.
    So sorry for the misunderstanding.
    Smileys would help :)

Edit. My perception could have been influenced by the nature of the original thread so my fault really. Sorry.

yes, my last post doesnt sound like me at all. DT is NOT the only FTP that require IAP to progress, but DT IS the only FTP game that i enjoyed until i get bored with it. so im looking forward to DT 2, but if they share the same gameplay, i guess it only sitting on my ipad for a couple days.

Yeah... the sequel's thread, even with all the "this sucks" or "best gaem evar," is still waaaaaay tamer than the first's which was total chaos.

Difference is that we know what to expect out of the sequel, even if it is totally similar or totally different.

In the first one, everyone thought it was a full blown, story-driven, gun-toting, zombie-blasting gamergasm until it turned out to be arena-based shooter with a side story...

...And all hell broke loose when the TA review called it a tech demo.

At least this time, we are expecting improvements, but we already are prepared as to what it's gon be.

This is crazy. I took a 3 year hiatus from the mobile gaming scene, and just randomly picked up DT1 without reading a thing about it. Basically, I'm way out of the loop. So I went into this thing with zero expectations, no knowledge of what it is or anything. And I gotta say, I like it quite a lot. I can see where the "tech demo" comment holds merit, and I still haven't hit that inevitable paywall yet, but I thought it was a ton of great fun for free. I still do since I'm still playing it about one challenge a day. I didn't know this had so much controversy behind it....crazy stuff. I think I'll read through this and the old thread. TA can be an amusing place sometimes.

I dont think this was the main reason why people were, gently said, dissapointed. Lots of them have compared it to COD WaW Zombies which is exactly an "arena-based shooter with a side story" and they liked COD, but hated DT. It was something else...

Most complaints were claims that it was "just a zombie shooter in a room with very high quality graphics and nothing more", which is why everyone was calling it a tech demo after TA plays said it first.

I like what they are doing with story this time - it sounds interesting and pretty uncommon "Each month a new update that will change the games location"
MFG never had a good presentation of games storyline (Shadowgun, DT1) but they manage to bring something new everytime.
It will be more fun with co-op (up to 5 players), glad they listened, it would be wonderful if we get more open areas but hey it's hard to be that critical when it's free.
Biggest problem I had with DT1 - repetitive, looks like they found nice solution to that, it would be plasent surprise if story is immersing this time around. Looks like I still managed to be critical :p

    So we will have:
    Co-op.
NPC's that will affect the gamplay.
Monthly updates of new locations, zombies, weapons etc.
    Weapons can be modified, collected.
    August?

I know it's been asked before but I've searched this thread and haven't found a response "will the game require an Internet connection to play?". Is so that really sucks for my shield when I'm not home
