I do buy plenty of good games, buy meaning game design hasn't been skewered towards IAP or equivalent. That's why I said I can't wait until the freemium market implodes, it's the worst thing to have happened to innovation and game design for a long time. You have exceptions and i'll support those, but there's so many accountants making games these days it's not funny.
Carve this to the stone! But how do you explain the success of those grinders? Games from Glu for instance? Blood and Glory 2 sucks money like crazy and yet it has 4.5 ratings.
No idea really, but I think with Freemium titles lower ratings are less likely due to lack of initial investment, people just delete the app once they get an idea of where it's all heading. If it were paid and the same type of games were pushed, I'm guessing you'd see a lot lower ratings. That's not me saying its a fact, just.my theory on it.
I kinda like the freemium model. You get to see what is inside and get a little experience. Want to play more? Buy some iAP. don't like it? Delete it. I don't want to buy anything that is $$$ and is crap. On the other hand, $$$ games are usually good, so...
Hmm, hmm. So this is your case. I'm not gonna blame you for making the game for the clear purpose of making money (well, because all developers do that). But seriously, those "5%" of the players who don't like your game, have a pretty big impact on the game's reputation. And you should know that those 5% of haters wouldn't be too hard to impress. Just show some PERSONALITY in your games. Of course you get so many downloads and good ratings. The freemium model is responsible for that. People see a good looking game, see that it's free, download it, they like what they see. Most of the people these days won't play games (all games, not just yours) for more than an hour, so they can't see how repetitive and dull the game gets after a while. Of course your apps got featured, they look gorgeous and are showing what iDevices are capable of (it didn't get into hall of fame because of originality, good story, or entertaining gameplay). You are very lucky that every game with good graphics gets an instant hit on iOS, but don't expect that this won't change. Just look at PC games now. You've got thousands, hundreds of thousands games with awesome graphics out there, but they don't get recognised just for their graphics anymore. Same will happen to iOS gaming some day, maybe not this year or another, but in 5/6 years for sure. Your games will get lost in the masses and NOW is the time that you do something about it. Also, your comments had no impact on any of the TA reviews, don't worry about that. TA doesn't hate you, or made a conspiracy against you and your games.
I think that you assumption is wrong. Shadowgun have 4.5* even being expensive game 7.99 USD, now 4.99 USD Shadowgun: Deadzone - released with buggy network code, Free 2 Play - 2.5* !!!... Now, after a lot of polishing and fixes we have 4.5* on iOS, 4.3 on Android. Every game have at minimum 5% haters (of course there are few exceptions) and you cannot satisfy everybody. 5% unsatisfied customers is HUGE success.. And to defend Dead Trigger. I think that there was some miscommunication on the beginning and some hardcore fans expected something different. To be honest Dead Trigger is (and this was plan) FPS shooter focused on combat, gore, zombies with gameplay strictly focused on mobile players. Very polished compare to other free2play games. Fast, easy, short mission, addictive, etc. I'm really sorry that some hardcore fans expected something like Dead Island or Left For Dead and we didnt fulfill their expectation. To clarify what to expect from Dead Trigger 2 : Best visuals on mobile devices (ehm ) Improved combat Every asset in the game will be new or reworked More different Zombies More different weapons More different missions Big bosses Stationary weapons Support iPhone4/iPod4G and up Rewards for DT Players registered in New Hope Free 2 Play/ iAP *censored* *censored* *censored* *censored* What will not be there Deep story driven missions Premium AAA console/PC like FPS without iAP Support iPhone 3GS Import save from DT1 (you dont want to skip half of game, right ?) Pay wall Best Marek
Thanks very much for that info Marek. We now have a clear idea of what the game will be so people can't really be disappointed when it releases. I appreciate the honesty of laying out what you are going to do and aiming for with it. So, thanks.
While they're at it, they should get Activision to do the music too. I don't find the music atmospheric on Dead trigger, doesn't give me that sense of dread.
Madfinger, How about a dead trigger game with Co-op? Most of your fans ( including myself !) would love to see an MP game on Dead Trigger !!
Well, ok... Thanks for the reply and honesty, Madfinger. Much appreciated. Too bad that from the sounds of it, I won't/can't like DT2.
Dead trigger is more fun with arena mode. Shoot all zombies. Even if it is dull, the sheer number and power of zombies is addicting. I played 30 mins for one single arena match. Marek, will DT2 have tapjoy offers?
Played for five and a half hours in CoD WaW one co-op game (and probably more than 10h in singleplayer mode). Beat that.
I'm right there with you, I was playing Co-op with one other player on Shi no Numa, went to round 132. I was too tired to keep playing since it was 2:30 am and we were playing for 5 hours. Single player, my highest was 109 on Der Riese but that's not in one sitting.
Hm, can you still play CoD with someone online? I think they had some server issues, did they fix that? I really want to shoot some zombies in co-op right now... I was highest on round 115 (I'm not joking, it was 115 (if you know the story, you'll know this number)) then the game crashed and the save was gone. It was also Der Riese (best map ever, imo).
Well, I'll just wait and see how the game turns out. Disappointing, though, that it sounds like MF won't ever do a premium game again. What happened to Shadowgun? Wasn't it part of a series? I'd love to see a sequel, just with more variety in the environments.
