I got the update. I'm actually pretty upset. I've made multiple purchases and now I'm getting full screen ads. And the shield is still not activating as it should. Billy

Holy cow this game looks divine! I really wanna try it out but guess I'll have to clear some space for it first somehow. Anyway good job devs for making such a stylish-looking game.
New Update. Gotta say I am loving the new update. Did see one ad like LordShadOwz. But it was only one and I haven't made any purchases so it doesn't bother me. I figured out the new combo system. Been flying up the rankings! Hit the melee button quickly without holding down the arrow key and it kinda auto targets the zombies. Pretty sweet! Highest combo was 24 for me. Also I finally got the shield to work. Have to make sure you don't move after your combo is over! That was the trick for me. I was mashing buttons and moving and he takes his shield down if you move. Kinda wish there was a way to just block on purpose. Maybe hold the melee button? Also noticed that he only holds his shield up for like 30 seconds. Can't hold it up forever i guess. All in all I am impressed.
Billy... I get it. Really. Adding ads to our game was a very tough decision. We didn't want to do it, but we're in between a rock and a hard place as an indie dev shop - being that the game is free and we haven't hit a good level of players, like yourself who were gracious enough to make in app purchases. We were aware that this addition would hurt the game some and that adding ads might upset some of our users. That part, really sucked and we toiled over the decision for a couple weeks. In the end, we're a good crew and care about our players...just trying to find ways to fund ongoing dev for even cooler stuff. That being said, we're experimenting with monetization to help keep game dev fresh and rolling. To you and the players who have made in-game purchases, we are BEYOND grateful and again apologize for upsetting you. Please know that this first implementation of the ads are by no means set in stone. We have many improvements/changes planned that hopefully help us hit the sweet spot for everybody. Currently, it is set to only show 1 ad every 30 min for a maximum of 6 ads. If it's happening more than this, please let me know...that's a problem that needs to get fixed, immediately. If you are affiliated with the developer in any way you need to make that known. People here aren't stupid and trust me when I say this sort of thing does more harm than good.
Thanks for the quick updates dev! As for the ads, that amount doesn't really bother me all that much but we'll see as I play more. I do understand the need to make money on a free game as most of them nowadays have ads in them. But as long as the game itself is good and the ads aren't a crazy amount I usually get over them. I'm excited to see what you guys have in store next.

We are working on a console version and would like to speed that up as well. It's definitely a balancing act. Will try to keep the ads to a minimum and include an opt-out soon. However my brother owns the company that built the game and he told me about this forum so I decided to join. I was not trying to mislead just wanted to participate in the conversation.
Shield Recommendation So got back on here to post another comment about the shield mechanic and got distracted with the hot games list. Anyone know how to follow a thread so I can be notified if someone replies to me? Back to Deadriot. I wish the shield would come up after I stop running instead of after I make a swing. This way I could defend when shooting or after running out of a crazy spot. I did get two crashes when opening the backpack as well. Game came right back after restarting it but hope you can fix it!

The Ads Dilemma...Good News Ads suck. I'm the first one in line on that boat. I pay extra on Hulu, etc. to not have to see them. You shouted and we moved. Beauty of being indie... Here's the fix: The team is adding, for the January update of DeadRiot, the removal of all ads for any player that has made an IAP. This seems to be a good middle-ground that will allow the company to also get funding revenue from our non IAP players while giving our killer, core players...y'all...an ad free game. I like that option. I've seen other devs do this and that's probably the best way to go if you want to keep the ads in without bothering paying customers. Have a great holiday!
I definitely would like a double coin IAP. I would definitely purchase that in this game. If it was priced at $1.99 or $2.99 that would be a decent price. You could always have sales and lower it to $.99 during them. Also in addition to sharing your scores for 500 coins what you could do to create revenue is have it so you get only one continue if you view an ad. You would need to choose a decent primary and secondary network with a sizable amount of ads per 24 hours. Most games are doing this and even with the no ads I actually will choose to view these type of opt in ads. The ONLY problem with this is you will need to create another set of leaderboards. If someone chooses to view an ad for the continue they would need to be placed into the second leaderboard. People do pay attention to such things so you can't have fair scores if some people continue and some don't. I assume this is doable without too much hassle since you already have the framework. Next you should have opt in ads for coins. The amount would be the same as it is for sharing your score. So 500 coins to view an ad. UNLESS you have the double coin IAP. Then you'd get $1,000 per ad. It creates incentive to purchase the double coin IAP and to watch opt in ads. People who won't purchase the coin packs or who are broke or can't afford to make purchases will view these ads to get the coins. They get the coins and you get additional revenue. It's a win win. And make sure it's prominent in the in game store and in the games description that any purchase disables the interstitial ads. You could still leave in the opt in ads as it's acceptable or you can have the engineers place a toggle in settings to make the opt in ads disappear if ads are disabled. Personally I don't mind opt in ads that I choose to view if the rewards are worth my time and my data. Billy
I agree with these comments 100%. I think the continue would be very interesting not sure if you should limit it to one continue if the leaderboard is separate from the non continue leaderboards. But definitely would limit it to three. One other thought I had along these lines would be to allow a user to build up three continues over time. I have come so close to my high score many times to suddenly die! Would love an option to continue under these situations. Another note is I still can not make the shield work effectively! Any thoughts on updating the block to being a specific action that I can do? Maybe another button? I know this could make it cluttered but would be so much easier for me to purposefully press the block when I want to. You could even have it only last a limited amount of time so I can't just block forever. I think this could potentially add in another aspect to the game play as well. Could block to stun a zombie etc..
