day one with my iPad and I've already noticed what seems to be a dead pixel. it's just one pixel that always stays black.
do you guys think i should take it to the apple store and see what they have to say about it?

Just go get a new one. It will annoy the hell out of you, it will never go away.

I had a dead pixel on 2 of my iPhone 3G's - I returned both of them and got new no questions asked.

  3. Apple's general policy is that there must be at least a certain number of dead pixels on a display device before they'll exchange or repair. I don't know what the minimum is for Apple, but most places won't do anything about it unless there are 3-7 dead pixels or more, depending on the size of the screen in question and the individual manufacturer's policies.

I'd call your nearest Apple store and ask what their policy is. I'm quite certain however that warranty won't cover one dead pixel. For a device of that size I'd wager they'll require 3 or more to be classified as defective enough for a warranty replacement.

Policy or not, you might stumble upon someone that's like-minded and'll happily do you the favor of giving you a new one. Just go in and ask. If that doesn't work, put on a fake mustache and ask someone else.

After 6 3G S's and a thurough convo with genius and store manager, I can safely disagree with this. They state they have no policy as some other companies do & that the only policy they have reguarding pixelation annomalies of all kind lay in verification. If they can see or verify they problem they will replace it within the warranty. Now if it's just cosmetic like a unflush home button that doesn't hinder performace or visual output then they'll tell you they can't replace under those circumstances.

    My experienced opinion only.

    P.S.
I've replaced over one dead pixel....thought I was being a little silly but I wanted perfection and now I have it.

The tech support said there is no policy so I went to the store and they gave me a whole new Iphone because of a dead pixel on mine. The guy said he couldn't see it until I pointed it out and that I'm fussy but he still changed it. Just make sure you get a friendly guy and don't take the piss outta them being called "genius" lol.

  9. Is a pixel that bad? I don't know, I've never experienced something like that...but the iPad is quite large... I dunno

Everyone has their own policies, but I think there's a general law (at least there is here) that states 15 or more pixels counts as a defect and the manufacurer is legally required to replace it. I feel sorry for the guy who gets 14.
