Has anyone else spent time with Dead Island yet? The game is so immersive, i'm not hesitant to call it one of the best Zombie-survival games ever to exist. It takes the same formula yet makes it different enough to stand out quite vividly from the crowd; it literally feels like you're on a deserted Zombie luxury-island to freely explore it at your own pace. I had a blast searching through every nook and cranny of each locale available for the first hour or two... shacks, bars and bungalows were filled with loot and walking corpses, but oh what a joy it felt to explore it at my own pace, F:NV-style. Have heard great things about the online co-op system, and now that a lot of the bugs have been ironed out, the game seems to be extremely promising. Anyone else enjoying this as much as I am?
I love the fact that to some extent, this feels more of a "Zombie Apocalypse Simulator" than a mindless Killing Floor / L4D shooter where your objective is simply to stay alive and make it through a series of rounds. Look at how high difficulty curve gets when you hit the city... I can't help but think back to scenes from The Walking Dead and 28-Days/Weeks Later: how survival-tactics definitely do need to come into play instead of roaming the streets with an over-inflated ego whenever you encounter zombies. Good stuff... EDIT: Not to mention, DI is a non-gun-centric game set in an open-world with tons of weapons at your disposal ;D
I was thinking of getting this game, how good is it on PC? And how good does it run (in terms of frame rate) compared to other games?
K then, i downloaded it. I didn't want to buy it yet, so i'll try it, and maybe i'll luv it, then buy it. Metacritic score is 80, which is not so bad.
The metacritic is 71, whatchu talkin bout... And the user score is a 6.6.... I still think I'll pick it up, but maybe used or on sale. I played it at e3, it is pretty average. Thats what you get from Techland games though.
Played the game for the whole evening yesterday....and i am really liking it. It's a mixture of Oblivion meets Dead Rising meets Condemned meets Fallout....which is totally the kind of game i like. I was also hesitant when i looked at the average review scores on meta....but the user experiences on several forums changed me into buying this game...and i am really not regretting it. Yes there are some bugs to be found in this game...but will be solved as soon as the promised patch is released by MS.
No regrets on this game. Went with the Logan character with his throwing abilities. It's nice to see the focus is on melee weapons than firearms except for one character and also to create your weapons of zombie destruction with the items found within the exploration part of it. Ok and I also get this weird sense of satisfaction when kicking zombies in the butt while there trying to get up.
Just throwing this out there - my friends and I are looking to grab a 4-pack on PC Steam. If anyone is possibly interested in going in on this, shoot me a PM. Trying to save a few bucks on this sucker!
I've heard some good things from people but I hear the multiplayer needs to be ironed out. I'm sure I'll dive into the game once I hear it gets an update or two.
I'm going to Redbox the 360 version once any show up at the local Redboxes. My DSL is dead until at least Thursday, so I won't be playing online anyway.
Yes, $2 per night, however right now they are showing a 50 cents off the first night promotion for me (plus taxes, though). There are some copies around me, but now I won't get a chance to play anything until probably Thursday night. Hopefully that promo is still in place then.
