Liking the TA review - glad to see this got noticed. Complaints are translation and optimisation, which can and will be fixed so could be a 5 when fixed.
I missed this one until the TA review appeared, but after reading the thread and seeing how involved the developer has been here, it was an instant purchase for me.
Been playing, it's a lot of fun, but the gold rewards compared to the cost of items is just ridiculous. I could play this constantly for a week and MAYBE be able to buy one item. I understand the high price is to encourage IAP of your gold but come on now!
Which character do you prefer and why. I don't plan on spending a dollar to play as the woman. Curious as to what you perceive the differences in strength/weakness among the two dudes. Personally, I find the vampire as a better player due to his better (IMHO) flying skills. Thoughts please?
The infinite flight in transformed mode is quite useful with the Vampire. The Wolf becomes immune to runes. There may be other subtle changes like in how jumping is controlled. I like the brute-esque style in Will's moveset than the finesse-driven hand gestures and waist cape action of Joseph. Lately i've been playing a lot as the Vampire though.
I Like Wills animations more. The filp when he double jumps and roll when he lands look more fluid that Josephs, and plus I like transforming and only having to worry about my landing spot, just crash through runs without worry. From what little I've played of Helena I think she plays mostly like Joseph, infinite flight when transformed, but not by holding jump like joseph, you can jump forever (kinda like kirby) and she has higher stats without equipment. I bought this game when killsheep mentioned that they would try to create a full platformer style game using unreal, as a way of showing I support that idea. I had no idea that this game would be so good also which is why I bought the princess to support them moreso, but I will not buy consumable IAP on principle.
I'll add my vote for this one. Let me be harsh, first - I don't get the outpouring of praise in some respects, as many of the animations look simply comical (I appreciate it must be a hard thing to get right but the initial running animation is hysterically bad), and the modelling for the backdrops varies wildly in quality. Some of the props and buildings are really good, true, like the dragon or the view across the bridge over the river out to sea - other times the houses look a bit too much like a cardboard playset for my liking. At the same time, huge kudos to the developers for going for the Unreal engine, despite the technical problems (I've only had a couple of crashes myself, though). When the production values are good, they're really good IMO - the characters and their outfits are excellent, and there are times the campy gothic atmosphere definitely clicks - the soundtrack (quality work there, by the way), the speed of play, the art design. And it's a really good, solid endless runner, from my experience with the genre. Controls work fine, and managing your mana plus the transformations give it an extra level of depth that's handled pretty well - far too many games try and expand the endless runner model by allowing you to do, like, ten things at once, and they just get cluttered and intimidating. This keeps the number of on-screen buttons down but still manages to give you a bunch of very distinct features to handle, and I admire that very much. Couple of gameplay nitpicks - sometimes if I miss a jump, I save myself by launching into flight mode but the character gets stuck under the ledge on the other side and all I can do is let them die. That doesn't feel quite right, even if I screwed up in the first place. Sometimes if you fly particularly high it feels impossible to avoid landing straight into a spike trap, a pit etc. - doesn't seem quite fair. And the prompt that a boulder's approaching seems like it ought to be clearer - it's more like the fireballs than the regular spikes or pits, after all. Oh, and I unlocked the third character, but then uninstalled and reinstalled (I've only got an 8GB Touch, so I'm still juggling things around) and didn't get my IAP back. Annoying. Haven't managed to start a multiplayer match, so I don't have any opinion on that yet. And though the translation's pretty poor I don't expect my Chinese (?) is much better, so I can forgive that for now. Other than that, I'd pay two, three times the price for this, easily. If you like the genre and/or campy gothic horror with a nod to Castlevania, you really should have bought this by now.
^Good points there dood. Especially on the flying too far up or transforming while missing a jump but i dont think it's much of a big deal right now. The gamedev could probably look into it, but im voting they pour their whole attention to making the game stable on all platforms first. Once the game's stable, they can woo us into various updates and we'd all be excited at every bit of info we get. I never liked playing as female characters so i dont think i'll ever be unlocking the chick. I like thinking myself as the character and having bewbs isnt really something id want on myself.
Works for me BUT after i restart, i have to open the game 3 to 5 times (unforch) to get it to go through to the menu. Dont remove the game from the cache everytime you load it. I think what happens here, is that we are loading the game piece by piece until the last launch where it can fully initialize and go through to the menu. Once in the menu, i've never had any crashes yet. Not even with notifications popping up. I think the problem is just with the initialization of the Unreal engine which the ipod touch4 cant run flawlessly. But if other Unreal games have been "tweaked" to play decently on the touch4, im pretty sure this will be fixed too in the next update.
Farthest I've gotten doing that and freeing RAM, is to the loading screen before any menu's.... sigh... i really want to play this...
Once you get back to the springboard, just tap the app again. The previous time it crashed, some loaded data have already been stored in the cache. So run the app again to load more data. After 2 or 3 (usually. one time i had to lauch the app 5 times to get to the menu) attempts to launch the game, the cache will eventually piece all data together and go through to the menu screen.
For what it's worth, the couple of times the game's refused to work for me have been when I've already had another game running, quit that, then tried to start Darkness Rush. It displays the first two logos, then just crashes back to iOS. Each time that's happened I just turned the iPod off altogether, turned it back on, tried Darkness Rush again and it started up no problem. I've just got a second-hand 8GB 4th gen. model, with around 20-25 games on there and Kindle installed, nothing else. Don't know if that's of any use to anyone, but there you go.
I'm up to try 13 atm... even after full reset, Free Memory, and maybe a curse or 2 xD piece of crap won't load -__-
Just recently i had to relaunch 8 times to get it to run. First time it happened to relaunch the app that much. I hope you are playing the game now, and enjoying it. Once the bug's been taken out, this game will become a favorite for a long time, and i will definitely recommend to my friends. But for now, i wont really recommend a game that they need to relaunch often just to start it up. It might just piss them off, lol.
We attempt to fix this bug by reducing amount of assets loaded at startup. And load these resource when they are really needed. This may fix crash bug. Anyone who can reproduce the crash bug can mail me to get a pre-release version to check this. My email: [email protected] I need your your uiid(device Id) to make you can run a prerelease app. We will release this version next week(you may see it 2 weeks later on appstore).
If you have unlocked 'Princess' before, you can re-unlock it freely. It is a non-consumable IAP. So you can purchase this many times but only need paid once. Don't worry about it.
I like the game. Single player has been a blast so far. - I don't find item grinding that much of chore with Goldx2 and Life+1 bonuses. I've nearly earned 20k for my first item with three hours of play. (The cheapest item is about 6k) - Second the point on dying by hitting the cliff. Even if you have enough mana to fly, it pushes you backwards causing you to die. Also there is a slight delay in attack activation after a big fall (for example, if you boost on the stairs at the early stages, it's hard to avoid the rune at the bottom since attack doesnt respond quickly) - Multiplayer needs a lot of work. I played two games as the wolf in Multiplayer. It was very frustrating - it lagged, the character flew when I wanted to double jump, I clear a spike only for the character to die multiple times, fireball warnings flash but there are no fireballs etc. However, the concept seems fun and would like to try this when controls compare to the single player game.
